Answer:
That is often incorrectly attributed to Benjamin Franklin or Albert Einstein. In fact, it is a quote from a 1980s mystery novel (called "Sudden Death") by Rita Mae Brown. Sorry, folks - there's no great genius behind this one.
--Sudden Death, Bantam Books, New York, 1983, p. 68
actually it appears in the book Alcoholics Anonymous, published in 1939, and it's a phrase used today by many 12 steps based groups in their literature and their meetings to point how addicts use rationalizations to justify that the problems were not caused by their own actions but rather by outter interference. Kinda like Republicans (Bush failed bc he was not a real conservative, but give us another chance bc the principles blah blah blah...)

Most detrimental to humanity is their ability to manipulate and control the people around them. They wreak havoc in your home or work-place or church or government - it always ends badly.

It was originally, "The military-congressional-industrial complex." Ike was forced to change it.
Um, I think it's understood that Obama is the spokesperson, not the "decider." Hey, he's a lot better than Bush, trust me. He can't really dictate policy at that level.
The government is supposed to appear to fail, then steal everyone's money. It's an old trick.
The last time, in the 30s, it ended with WWII. Let's hope for no repeat performance.
Obama was handled a pile of shit. He should have let it fall, let the over hyped bullshit stock market fall to shit, let the overpriced housing market fall to shit.
Thats what he SHOULD have done.
Then you lunatics would have bitched at him for doing nothing.
He can't win --- he can't possibly return the stock market to its over hyped insanity, or the housing prices to bullshit insanity.
But you idiots won't stop bitching unless he tries.
I think video guy may want to study up on finance economics. The problem is most people have no idea what they're talking about -- on the left and the right. There is a deficit in our financial savvy.
We need banks and the Obama admin is fixing the "too big to fail" problem thru tougher regulations. Businesses and banks depend on credit. It's pretty basic but a lot of people are just being lazy and not taking time to get up to speed.
The whole point is that all this economic mumbo jumbo they keep feeding us via the media is a bunch of hocus pocus BULLSHIT designed to benefit those who are already rich at the expense of those who aren't. You don't need to "study finance economics" to figure that shit out.
Very interesting debate here. This might be the real economic discussion that needs to take place. Do we penalize people for not understanding a complicated system or change the system to be more people friendly. Although the latter seems far more difficult and less enriching (for politicians, executives, and lobbyists colluding together), my organizational systems professor would proclaim that the problem is never the people. The problem is the system. Funny thing is, the system will remain.
When Banking was at its most boring, between WWII and the mid 1970's, was when our Economy was at its most successful. I think making banking complicated is more effective at lining the pockets of the people working in the banks than at serving the needs of Main Street.
It's interesting to note that NONE of this would've happened if Americans were smart enough not to buy a house they couldn't afford. So, yeah, it really is about people knowing basic finances. On the regulation side, if bankers required documentation of income, then again, NONE of this would've happened. Yeah, the banks and Wall Street got greedy and now they have all of OUR unpaid debts on their books.
thats simply not true. the majority of foreclosures are coming from investor's. most of which at the time had good income and decent knowledge of finances.
its not that hard to figure out, just go look at house listings. does someone with little income and intentions of owning their first house run out and buy all hardwood floors and stainless steel appliances?
It should be finance and economics, and yeah, you should give it try. The guy in this video makes zero sense and you're just repeating Krugman with "hocus pocus." No one is thinking. No one is making any effort to do their own research. As I wrote below, none of this would've happened if Americans didn't buy houses they couldn't afford. I'd say that's a sure sign of a basic lack of financial savvy.
No dude, It's you who can't see beyond the house of cards which has been constructed around you. It is all a lie. The entire system is the biggest ponzi scheme of all time and it is the privileged classes who are reaping the benefit.
I knew all this shit was hocus pocus before I even heard of Paul Krugman.
What will we do? Let's see...ahh, the first thing I would like to do is to give Dink Cheney a heart attack by popping a balloon behind his back...and when all the laughing stopped I would hand out a list of names and addresses to all the militias and truth seekers of who Runs the Banks, weapons factories, insurance Companies, and anyone else who controls the economics or politicians who sold out the people. Do you know where they live? If you do, send them a message that you are not happy.
This guy should do a little more research before spending his time in front of a video camera. The differences in economic models between Krugman,et al and the Obama administration, can be intelligently debated. Using "intuition" instead of research is what the Bushies did. That didn't turn out too well.

This is an awesome video and I'm glad that Veracifier videos shows things like this--this is way more valuable to me than 10-second soundbytes of talking heads.
Schizoid is essentially supported by greed and collusion. Life has always been that way. It is one thing to say it and run with it, but the cost of overcoming it would be to change the entire environment either for the vastly worse or vastly better. I'll tell you what; growing up after WWII was nuts. Some people wanted to replace class disparity with class war. I know because i was the enemy starting at 6 years old and no one said anything. The fuckers just cheered it on.
Sorry, I generally like Veracifier, but this style of presentation is so annoying I can't even watch it. Please change this format and bring back real information.
What about this was "unreal" information. Tadke alook around you. If you cant sense the revolutionary spirit rising in a larger and larger group of Americans with each act of lunacy from our Government you are deaf and as blind as our current prez. I do not necessarily agree with the movement but it is there and growing fast Very fast. Wake up and realize sometime the truth and reality can be some scary ass shit!
That cash for trash is a bad plan for the gov to be pursuing is intuitively evident (though, from what I know, it seems one of many bad choices). It should, however, be seen in the overall context of the stim and the bailout. They want a snow-ball affect of increased consumerism and it might well save the economy - it's not lunacy, it just presupposes that the economy is worth saving.
After 9/11 everyone was told to go out and buy things; that's what America is at bottom; People who buy things.
What do you mean its not Lunacy. To continue doing the same thing and expect different results is absolute Lunacy. What Snowball? Do you mean Re inflating our economic Bubble through Massive Debt? They did this in 80's, 90,s, 2001, 2007, and now 4 or more times in last 6 mos. That is absolute lunacy. We need to solve the problem not continue to bank aid over it. We cant do it any more. There is no $ left to bail out or re inflate the bubble left. Now that is Lunacy we have done this to ourselves.
Yeah. I'm not sure if his name is Dennis Trainor, or if it's Davis Fleetwood. I can't handle the shock and awe of this kind of commentary. We're all gonna die, man! ...Ron Paulllll
But it does absolutely nothing for us. We should be talking about how to do things the right way, and what that means.
Dialogue like this is popular, and instantly appealing to the cynicism in all of us, but on a realistic level, it's sludge, its just one more guy bitching about something he doesn't understand. Can Dennis Trainor solve everything? Hell no.
We need to move beyond this blind, aimless rage. We need to think, and solve.
You're absolutely right, but remember the phases of a typical crisis: Denial, Bargaining, Acceptance, Depression and finally Recovery/Reorientation. Most people aren't ready for what you call for yet. And that's ok, they will be in due time.
Our elected leaders represent the people who paid to get them elected and not the people who voted them into office. Lobby reform always get struck down by the courts for violating 1rst amendment rights. Solve that.
They represent a national body full of people with extremely diverse opinions, wants and needs. One man's good idea is another man's horrible idea. We all get to fight over the nuances of our beliefs, but politicians have to find a compromise for all of us, trying to deliver change without alienating the people who don't agree with what you're doing. Their wishy-washyness is a reflection of our polarization.
... just because your crazy doesn't mean they're NOT out to get ya!
I think we ALL need to agree to get back to OVERSIGHT, TRANSPARENCY & ACCOUNTABILITY! restore Justice!
we need to LIMIT CORPORATIONS!
limit their life, scope, protection, nationality, size, assets, define their RESPONSABILITY to the Country, People, Environment, and pass a bill that says CORPORATIONS ARE NOT PERSONS & that their FIRST RESPONSIBILITY IS TO SERVE HUMANITY!
You don't get to be president, if you don't obey the masters. Presidents are selected, not elected. You are manipulated to do what they want. The matrix has you, and me.
rollsthepaul: "You don't get to be president, if you don't obey the masters. Presidents are selected, not elected. You are manipulated to do what they want. The matrix has you, and me."
Your'e such a wimp. " I have no control over my life. They're all out to get me. What can I do? Oh, I know. I can bitch and moan about it."
Bravo Melora72, good response. You seem to understand that whatever control you have over your life is seized. Your rights are those that you can defend. The outer shells of reality, are in fact, not real and we must look deeper. Always, the right questions are more important, than the right answers. Cheers.

The government is supposed to appear to fail, then steal everyone's money. It's an old trick.
The last time, in the 30s, it ended with WWII. Let's hope for no repeat performance.

USA is now run by an oligarchy. I poo-pooed the idea for a long time, but it's now clear to me. It's being discussed more and more:

Obama was handled a pile of shit. He should have let it fall, let the over hyped bullshit stock market fall to shit, let the overpriced housing market fall to shit.
Thats what he SHOULD have done.
Then you lunatics would have bitched at him for doing nothing.
He can't win --- he can't possibly return the stock market to its over hyped insanity, or the housing prices to bullshit insanity.
But you idiots won't stop bitching unless he tries.

Okay I got the first minute in -- you essentially say you are better than everyone else. Your first minute could be translated that way.
Well if you are so dayum smart --why can't you make a point in less than a minute? What the hell is your point?

I think video guy may want to study up on finance economics. The problem is most people have no idea what they're talking about -- on the left and the right. There is a deficit in our financial savvy.
We need banks and the Obama admin is fixing the "too big to fail" problem thru tougher regulations. Businesses and banks depend on credit. It's pretty basic but a lot of people are just being lazy and not taking time to get up to speed.
ochairball 2 years ago
The whole point is that all this economic mumbo jumbo they keep feeding us via the media is a bunch of hocus pocus BULLSHIT designed to benefit those who are already rich at the expense of those who aren't. You don't need to "study finance economics" to figure that shit out.
myxomata 2 years ago 4
Very interesting debate here. This might be the real economic discussion that needs to take place. Do we penalize people for not understanding a complicated system or change the system to be more people friendly. Although the latter seems far more difficult and less enriching (for politicians, executives, and lobbyists colluding together), my organizational systems professor would proclaim that the problem is never the people. The problem is the system. Funny thing is, the system will remain.

When Banking was at its most boring, between WWII and the mid 1970's, was when our Economy was at its most successful. I think making banking complicated is more effective at lining the pockets of the people working in the banks than at serving the needs of Main Street.
eebruce 2 years ago
It's interesting to note that NONE of this would've happened if Americans were smart enough not to buy a house they couldn't afford. So, yeah, it really is about people knowing basic finances. On the regulation side, if bankers required documentation of income, then again, NONE of this would've happened. Yeah, the banks and Wall Street got greedy and now they have all of OUR unpaid debts on their books.
ochairball 2 years ago
thats simply not true. the majority of foreclosures are coming from investor's. most of which at the time had good income and decent knowledge of finances.
its not that hard to figure out, just go look at house listings. does someone with little income and intentions of owning their first house run out and buy all hardwood floors and stainless steel appliances?
90% of houses on the market are rehabs.
balomas69 2 years ago
It should be finance and economics, and yeah, you should give it try. The guy in this video makes zero sense and you're just repeating Krugman with "hocus pocus." No one is thinking. No one is making any effort to do their own research. As I wrote below, none of this would've happened if Americans didn't buy houses they couldn't afford. I'd say that's a sure sign of a basic lack of financial savvy.
ochairball 2 years ago

If you do, send them a message that you are not happy.
minstral2 2 years ago
This guy should do a little more research before spending his time in front of a video camera. The differences in economic models between Krugman,et al and the Obama administration, can be intelligently debated. Using "intuition" instead of research is what the Bushies did. That didn't turn out too well.

MadDogOfist 2 years ago 2
What do you mean its not Lunacy. To continue doing the same thing and expect different results is absolute Lunacy. What Snowball? Do you mean Re inflating our economic Bubble through Massive Debt? They did this in 80's, 90,s, 2001, 2007, and now 4 or more times in last 6 mos. That is absolute lunacy. We need to solve the problem not continue to bank aid over it. We cant do it any more. There is no $ left to bail out or re inflate the bubble left. Now that is Lunacy we have done this to ourselves.

It's just so easy to bitch about what's wrong.

Bravo Melora72, good response. You seem to understand that whatever control you have over your life is seized. Your rights are those that you can defend. The outer shells of reality, are in fact, not real and we must look deeper. Always, the right questions are more important, than the right answers. Cheers.
