My Wife Likes to keep the heat indoors in the winter. But Since it's tax season as well as winter, (She works for one of those chain tax prep company's) and she's at work filling out W-2's. I get to sneak out back and fire up the Grill for a treat.
I bet a lot of people were probably thinking it, all it takes is for someone to say it, fire up those grills all year! An indoor oven just can't compete with BBQ when it comes to flavor. So if you're missing that BBQ taste in January, you know what to do!
Amen - I always wondered why people BBQ all summer in the frikin heat and then when it gets cold they don't want to cook over a FIRE that gives their food great flavor and keeps them warm.
@ex0ja more coles and the grease from the steaks makes the high flames. Steaks are cooked over direct heat. You can add water soaked wood chips to get a little smoke flavor too.
I've been caught grilling in -35 degrees. It's an obsession that I can't leave to just summer time. People think I'm crazy, but when they try my food, they can't deny that it was worth it. Glad to see I'm not they only one who does it all year long.
@rinos88 Amen! In the winter I switch to hardwood, as it burns hotter and a little longer. I love making a bad ass brisket or some serious ribs when it is snowing. Cook on my brother.... Cook on
Sweet! I'm going to try the hardwood. I keep having to reload my smoker box with charcoal when it is cold out. I have a strange water smoking technique and I have to be careful not to knock the can over when reloading.

so true. Last year it was -25 cel out side and the steak was on. Everyone thought I was nuts because I had to dig out the bbq after the snow we just had. Oh well. it was the first one of the year 2009.
How cold is 11 degree, is it in celcius?, here in my country the lowest temperature we could get is 25 degree celcius, it's about 75 F degree. I could never imagine that, must feel like inside the refrigerator
One would think that the cold temps would mess up the meat... but learning how to grill in the cold.... or even extreme cold...... is also a survival skill well-worth having.
Winter is my fav time to stand at the grill. BUT all you guys did was cut off the horns and wipe the hefer's ass. You've got to cook them steaks fellas! Medium well. D-Licious! :) To each his own though :)
Fuck yeah! Up here in Woodbridge Ontario Canada, we had a tornado; while everybody was walking the streets at night looking at all the damage done, me and my friend were grilling up some ribeyes!! Two days ago in 30deg.F. weather, we did some striploins!!
Shoot! just because it's cold and snowing, don't mean you can't have the zesty-sweet taste of a open pit/grill Bar-B-Q!!!
This inspired me, I'm gonna wipe out the grill and do some "Winter philly-steak sandwiches", let the conservatives watch from their warm/safe bedroom windows at me... I got my "Bar-B-Que Shoes" on! Thanks Pit-Boyz!
I hear ya. I always wondered why people waited to the summer or certain holidays. My mom would pull the grill out of the garage any day of the week. We would place the grill in the area that was best for the weather. Even if the rain caught us. It was always so much fun. :-D You guys are awesome!
it's not the dark or cold that puts me off firing up the grill, it's the constant rain we've had for about four or five weeks now. and we were already planning on grilling the turkey for xmas dinner. soon as it doesn't rain on my days off we're having barbeque. and hubby wants snow for xmas cause he says he'll fire it up for first snowfall.
my only difficulty bbq-ing in winter is keeping the kettle hot...i use charcoal not chunk wood.not sure if that's the reason the fire is so cool.but the rewards for bbq in cold weather go beyond good food.really lifts the spirits when the days are short and cold, reminding you of summer days!
