Being apart of this ensemble for the past two semesters has been the greatest experience. We work so hard on preparing for these type of performances and it is so rude to attempt to degrade our ensemble because it is not up to your standards. We are not professionals but like bandgeek8986 said we are led by some amazing and talented individuals. Your comment was rude and if anyone needs to learn respect it is you. If you do not like our performance, don't watch the video and do not comment.
Excuse me BigAfroLady, but do you have ANY idea how hard this ensemble works? It isn't a professional ensemble, but they are led by highly trained professionals who - big surprise here - have actually traveled to Africa and have seen this form of art first-hand, directly from the source. How about YOU have some respect to this organization. They work very hard and are very dedicated to what they do, and having people such as yourself making such ignorant comments is so insulting.
Another thing BigAfroLady, that Lamban dance is wonderful! I enjoyed it very much! Back to the original statement, we are not a professional group! Maybe you jumped to conclusions and thought we were, but we're just a group of students!(note also, we are not all music students either) We're led by two great percussion professors. We feel that our ensemble should be open to everyone in our university and for someone to make a rude comment like this is very sad.
BigAfroLady, just curious, have you been to Africa? I know WVU percussionists went on a trip last summer that lasted a month in Africa. Perhaps you should be more considerate to a group that is attempting to expand their sociological perspective, as well as other peoples perspectives, in this area.
Excuse me, but if you would do a little research on our university and our program, you might learn a little something. No it is not a joke. We take our ensemble very seriously. We learn the history, stories and traditions behind every dance and song we perform. See how we learn and talk to our professor. And if you could be so kind... please enlighten us and teach us what you know about West African music. We would love to hear from you and get some pointers. Thanks.
As an African woman and a performer of west African dance, I am EXTREMELY offended at this travesty. This piece is not representative of proper drum or dance technique. Is this a joke? Even your clapping is not rhythmic! Please have some respect and do not post any more videos.
