The sonic equivalent of 'Dave's Insanity Sauce'. Always chuckle when I hear the story of their sound engineer sometime into the (one-take recording) saying 'I don't have to listen to this shit. Let me know when you're done.'
Just astonishing playing from every participant. "Sister Ray" has set a benchmark for over 40 years now. Like Jimi's "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)" or the Beatles "Day In The Life", it's actual proof of how much was achieved in 1967-68.
don't mistake man, they are better than floyd, only the two first velvet's albums are top masterpieces of all time, pink floyd only have one masterpiece: the piper at the gates of dawn
dark side of the moon is NOT a masterpiece, only a good album
The Piper at the Gates of Dawn is an amazing album, though I do love Dark Side. But, Piper is my favorite. I'm one of those hopeless Barrett fans that wonder what PF would've been like with him in later years, so that's why I like it.
The Velvet Underground, on the other hand, don't deserve the lack of attention they've received since 1965. For such a wonderful and influential band, they have so little listeners. This song is proof of how great they are, as are their first three albums.
@progreadicto Pink Floyd are better than The Velvet Underground. TPATGOD is not a masterpiece. Pink Floyd's masterpieces are: Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, The Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall. The first VU album is a masterpiece. The second was very good, but not quite a masterpiece.
I don't really think that Lou Reed would like to hear that someone said his music was psychedelic. That's pretty much the opposite of what they were trying to create. They hated psychedelic hippie culture and it's movement, that's why they wore all black instead of bright colors and made abrasive sounds that might be interpreted as bad vibe music by the hippies.
I remember the first time i listened to this song, i was fucking blown away. It's a wave of intense energy jamming against you, while progressing like a pissed of steam engine.
I was sitting around a bonfire with some friends a few years ago and one of the guys put on this record. Shortly after, he and everyone but one other guy, a close friend of mine, disappeared for awhile. So me and my friend are talking with this song on in the background. At one point, when the noise in the track was getting intense, I started to laugh and refer to the music and right then my friend said "I'm turning this off! I hate the Velvet Underground. It sounds like ass jamming!" I disagree
this is the best ever so ahead of its time and pathed way for bands like sonic youth
