It took the United States Government until LAST YEAR to FINALLY AWARD Hans Spear (and others) with a well deserved Bronze Star delayed for so long apparently because he was Jewish at a military base in Arizona

Hans Spear was my dear friend. He was also a very devoted man whom I had the pleasure of seeing almost every day where he worshiped with his wife. He is the man who says "Private Spear reporting for duty!" I was very fortunate to hear many stories of this horrible time in our history directly from him and other Survivors. We celebrated his 90th b-day w cake and his wife of almost 70yrs last Dec. He died earlier this year a few days after a fall at a prayer service. He was very proud to serve U.S

I am french,and i've just seen this film on T.V.,and i really loved it too!Guy stern and Fred Howard are so funny,i would like to meet them and talk about their great stories!they had all a beautiful life after the war, they deserve it well.Merçi !

I loved this, too. I wonder where all the film footage came from. For example, the lovely blonde woman in Paris---was she an actress or did the story teller take movie footage.

I just read "The Crusaders" by Stefan Heym. Seeing this wonderful documentary is experiencing major parts of the the book again.
