I HURT MY THUMB PUNCHING SONE DOES HURT I CAN MOVE IT JUS HAVE TROUBLE bending it all the way down please answer really dont wana get surgey hoping it will heal
I have been to a doctor who is recommending surgery. Before he cuts me open, I want to be absolutely sure non-surgical therapy isn't a better way to go. After the fall, I could move the thumb all the way back. Not much pain and now three weeks later after wearing a brace, there is a hard knot has developed (inside base of thumb)and difficulty with griping heavy objects.
If you are unsure of your decision regarding surgery, it's not a bad idea to get a second opinion. If you do get a second opinion, it should be from a hand surgeon.
Even though you can move the thumb back and forth doesn't mean everything is fine. The ligament that is injured with skier's thumb involves side to side motion of the thumb, e.g., gripping a large ball. It is when the thumb is spread out to the side that a person would feel pain. Testing the ligament can further damage it.
Well doctor, it's a complete tear of the UCL as well as a Stener's Lesion. I go in for surgery in early Oct. Wish me luck! Thanks for posting this video.
I would assume that you would know if the thumb ligament iscompletely torn? I can still move my thumb, but can tell it's unstable. I can still grasp things that are not too heavy...please advise. Thanks.

Thanks, will do so today. It swelled overnight, and is more painful with movement.

You should see a doctor - if this is left untreated it could lead to arthritis.
