  • @christyj1978, you are wrong. I listen to this song with so much passion. I have 18 years, and this song reminds me of my childhood. I listen to it everyday because it makes me happier! Peace! :)

  • I think the subtext to this song is that with all the worlds problems why is that some people feel the need to take things out on a man who has simplified his life in the hope his problems go away. Isnt it symptomatic of what most of us do? Buried, head, sand seems to come to mind.

  • : )

  • Man such a great song. Good times.

  • Say That

  • fuck off then and dont wach it

  • is that mr. wendel in the picture up there?

  • if you ask me, I think all of you are complete douches

  • i like this son it's very true

  • I can't watch a fucking youtube video with all this shit. oh god! ! !

  • In the case of the shortening the name of a decade, such as "The Eighties" to the form of a number, " ' 80s" is actually correct.

You use a " ' " to denote that there is an expected word, phrase, or number being left out of what is written.

So technically, "80s" isnt correct either. It would be " '80s"

Before you go giving someone grief about their punctuation, at least be sure you're right, and they're wrong.

  • Just exactly what the hell are you reading? You're implying something entirely wrong. I would suggest for YOU to be right on what you're talking about. You suggested that I meant the apostrophe wasn't placed before "80s." You're an idiot.

  • i dont know how many times i've said this on youtube but "it's about the music, its the art"

  • I miss the 90's. Music was great. That is, if you use the preceeding and succeeding decades as a frame of reference.

  • 90's? Shouldn't that have been just "90s" without the apostrophe? Yeah... it should have been.

  • So where is the ownership of 90's?

  • Sorry I didn't take any time to proof read my youtube comment.

If this is the way you act in real life somebody WILL kill you eventually.

    GET A LIFE!

  • Is that all you could come up with? There has to be BETTER retaliatory statements to use, but I guess it's because you're too dumb to find out.

  • No, I just don't seek conflict with everyone around me.

So what if I accidently stike the apostrophe when I am typing? I am running about 125 wpm on average..

Why the hell does it matter to you so much?

Is your life really that empty?

  • So you're agitated already? My life being either empty or not has nothing to do with your "supposed" acronyms. Quit making excuses for your silly 3rd grade mistakes.

  • Did I say that my typing speed had anything to do with you?

Your empty life is apparent as you have time to grade youtube comments all day long.

    Two completely unrelated points.

(I am aware that the above sentence is a fragment.)

  • You'd like me to be upset over this. I don't know you and I don't care what you think.. I'm just trying to do you a favor and tell you that life is better without that stick up your ass. Life is too short to go around finding fault with everything and everyone.

  • WOW.

You are a fucking douche bag!

I'd kick your ass if you ever had the guts to say some shit like this to MY face!

Why don't you go leave some feedback on some of those comments that use "words" like "ur" and "gud"? That's where the real problem is. I could get behind that. But to call this guy an idiot for something so minor is just fucking silly you prick.

  • Aw you're so mature and ignorant. Do you feel better now?

  • This is a great song that just has a simple message and it manages to not attack anyone in the process.

  • I know that's right no expoitation either.I love this song and it's message. Listen to people who have a positive message and learn something different everyday. Be Blessed. I love this song.

  • "spend all that money on college and some of you still end up confused..." dope Mess-Age track...

  • nice song mr wendal it's a simple man a human very good song listen the message

  • This song is not talking about God. One of the members of Arrested Development met Mr. Wendell on the street, who was a homeless man, and inspired him to write this song. Mr. Wendell was actually a friend of my HS english teacher and she brought him in to speak to our class (about 8 years ago) about his story. We email back and forth once in a while, he's gotten back up on his feet and has come a long way!

  • I remember when this song came out in the early 90's, I liked it back then and forgot about it until I accidently found it here.. Brings back old memories and it has a great message.. nice song and message...

  • 90s, not 90's.

  • I bet you wonder why nobody likes you.

  • Gee, I wonder if I ever DO wonder. I bet YOU wonder why people think you're an idiot.

  • I just wish rap could have been "purer" like this song here, I always took issue with today images of money, women, bling etc. rap is too commercial as with all the other music out today.

  • this song should be longer

    much longer

    the message is too important

  • hmmmm arrows point at 'yes' for this one..... important message though? Just a catchy tune and chorus to get a place on the Bill board charts. Back in their day they were competing with alot of fresh talent on the scene, it was the who's who of R'n'B, hip hop. If you recall........

  • No, this song DOES have an amazing message. You just have to understand trancendentalism and how things were at that time, the message it's trying to get across, or...you know, common sense.

There are so many messages in this one little song, I can't even name them all.

They did not make this song just to be catchy.

They did it to get a message across because at this point in time music was a very powerful form of getting one's point across.

  • Man I almost forgot about this track, brings back memories, damn miss this type of Hip Hop.

We were so close, it was all so good, now look at what we got Gansta this, gangsta that, kill you, Bitch etc etc.. hate that stuff, wish some peeps would make some mo like this wonderful song by arrested development or like De La, Spearhead.

Btw the rhymin is really tight in this track, just perfect!!!

  • yo' mofo's yeapin 'bout god and otta shit stead lisn' to da ma'fackin music!!! tis is da shit

  • here i couldnt be arsed reading the comments but but read a few and just wanted to say that hes giving god a name or character as apose to this faceless old man livin in the sky....who doesnt exist by the way

  • @ WhHyTeY that was what i was trying to explain but not everyone will view it my way every ones entitled to thier own opinion but im glad someone understand's were im coming from lol :-)

  • @WhHyTeY shut the fuck up you fucking liberal punk ass atheist

  • I Listened to this tape growing, thats what inspired me to start rapping, but this is from a time where rap was used to get out a message, and speak to the youth. Now I think they would just call this reggae

  • Yeah but are you Mr Wendall? Did you ever think about that>?

  • The overall message from this song is not so much about god, but rather that we can learn a lot from people (in the case of the song a homeless man) if we were not so quick to prejudge them.

    "Uncivilized we call him,

but I just saw him eat off the food we waste

Civilization, are we really civilized, yes or no?

    Who are we to judge?

When thousands of innocent men could be brutally enslaved

and killed over a racist grudge"

  • mr wendel is passing judgement on our society when the rich are rich and the poor are poor and telling us that our way of living are ;imited and however how much money we have is irrelant vs the quality of life we have...i think

  • Not a bad assumption brother..... I agree

  • AlluringShrew thanks for that piece of really intersting information!! i look forward to reading more shit that comes out of your mouth on other powerfull and non relgious songs. Weapon!*

  • Go 'head Mr. Wendel

    feelin this oldie!

    ...check me...

  • The lyrics are not talking about God. Mr. Wendell is not "code" for God. It's a socioeconomic statement, not a religious statement. It's a very powerful song, and part of it's power is that is blantantly says exactly what it means.

  • oh sorry not god i mean jesus. well if thats how you take the song that's up to you but i see it as if he's talking about jesus talking if your a religious person and you listen to the lyrics carefully you will understand

  • alluringshrew read the lyrics

Mister Wendal has tried to warn us about our ways

But we don't hear him talk

Is it his fault when we've gone too far

And we got too far 'cause on him we walk

Mister Wendal, a man, a human in flesh

    But not by law

I feed you dignity to stand with pride

Realize that all in all you stand tall

  • "Mr Wendell's a bum"

"I saw him eat off the food we waste"

    God's a bum?

  • @CarD51Short see you just read what you wanted to read if you read my comments carefully before fasting yourself to reply i said i agree with alluringshrew abit i said some parts of the song are religious and i carefully selected the lyrics in the song what i was talking about dont put words in my mouth please

    peace

  • @CarD51Short

Why yes, God is a bum. After creating the universe and in these tough economic times, he hasn't found much work to do.

  • @CarD51Short

God's son was. I think it's retarded that the person who posted this song said "god" instead of "god's son".

  • @CarD51Short dont pick out 2 lines and say its not about God

  • This is what music should now. Not all that shoot shoot kill kill murder murder. But what are rappers doing to change that. What they gotta sell 4 million b4 they say/try to put a stop to it

  • God i love this song its so old though

  • love it

  • I never get tired of coming here.

  • wat a tune

  • Thought inspiring lyrics....we can all learn from each other no matter how clever or superior we think we are.

    Love it!!

  • The words are so awesome! I knew Mr. Wendel thru the Denver shelter. And even tho knowing his story, I still gotta get my groove on when I here this Music. I can just see him strutting in HEAVEN. Love Luna

  • I love this song heaps

  • cool vibes maan love this kind of stuff

  • Oh, man, I heard this song on the radio the other day and just started freaking out because I remembered hearing soft, meaningful, yet badass music like this! Now the radio and the new generation of children are poisened with shit-faced rap where you: 1. Can't understand what they're saying. And 2. Talk about nothing more than 3 or 4 things. Sex. More sex. Money. Love, etc.

I miss music like this... </3

  • Arrested Development are before their time...I agree, music today is garbage...junk food for the brain.

  • try to listen some reggae music

    it's a real mans music

    music is life remamber that

  • me 2

  • they dont make songs like this anymore...

  • I pretty much agree with you on that... except the thing is this.... songs like this dont get published much. Too political. Not too many of us want to be aroused to the plight of man. Like 3Jews said sex, raw verbal abuse, Money....etc. that is one reason I love reggae too. It has meat. Not just a junk food , happy faced, drive thru, horn honk'n, ear bust'n, un digestable, limp and lame Message.Ok off the soap box now. I am starting a writters Fan Club. To let writters know we LOVE good music.

  • Fortunately for all of us this song did get a lot of airplay on radio and MTV. So did some of Arrested Development's songs. Great stuff.

  • yep

  • this is the best song is c00l

  • I love this song!!! :)

  • old school

  • yeah, back in high school, its refreshing though because great songs are timeless

  • great

  • I saw them at Lollapalooza and they really were the best act. I mean I saw Beastie Boys, and I saw Alice in Chains, (maybe not at the same event, can't be sure) But I went to see the other acts.

The funny thing is they were the best act, I was there to see alternative rock, and was so inspired by them.

  • love this song.

  • This song reminds me of my childhood ^_^
