The difference in boil time may just boil down nyuk...nyuk... to how much mass is around the flame area. Mass absorbs heat. The Tatonka has a bit more mass??? I think
@bluemountaindrivepae YES they do ... unless you're using them on the Jet Boil ... always worked well on that but the direct flames aren't hitting the lid on that set up.
@Brainbox96 Not a stupid question at all ... what I use is aluminum flashing material you can pick up at most hardware stores ... just score it with a straight edge and a box cutter ... use a file or coarse sand paper to take the sharp of the tips and edges ... and you're good to go! You might want to bore holes along the bottom edge ... I usually don't but see how it could benefit.
hi, great comparison video, just wanted to mention that if you did not already know, it is recommended by trangia that you can add a drop of water to the burner fuel before lighting and this will stop the bottom of you pots, mugs or pans getting all sooted up...4
it is a pity that the stainless burner has a bigger butt as it will obviously not fit inside the trangia cooking systems and that burner looks to be stronger built.
Seems to be the nature of those stoves. I found my Tatonka to burn quite orange as well until it really heats up. It comes from inside those stoves. Has nothing to do with the fuel. They're definitely not record breakers for boil times but good for cooking :o) Nice vid!
@Ggreenvideos Thanks ... glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for stopping by! I think I'm more partial to the Trangia than the Tatonka even after several times to burn one.
Sucks that no one makes a tight fitting lid for the Snow Peak, I've melted 2 JetBoil lids using an alky stove. The lid that comes with the Snow Peak sucks, and got a nice lid from from dude online but doesn't stay on tight. Ended up switching to an MSR Titan, but I still like the Snow Peak shape better.
@RJBURG Well I really have no clue what you mean ... like I said ... and you can see on the video ... the larger trangia has a gasketed screw on cap, the smaller one has a gasketed screw on lid and a pressure fitted snuffer or simmer cap that goes on top of that. The Tatonka has a screw on gasketed cap ... however the simmer or snuffer cap on it is loose, neither screws on nor twists on.
@RJBURG Not sure what you mean ... the caps on all three screw on ... the Tatonka's simmer lid just sits on while the smaller Trangia has a twist on simmer lid.
Great video! I love the Trangia style stoves. Evernew's alcohol stove is very similar too. It doesn't have the ability to screw down the lid or a snuffer lid but the same basic design. Evernew does make a "Cross Stand" that fits it's stove and the Trangia. I've tried it on both and it works great. I imagine it would work with the Tatonka too. Now I'm going to have to keep my eyes open for a Tatonka. Thanks for the video(s).
Nice review. I use both burners here in the UK. I find best performance is to be had by filling the burners to maximum capacity before use. After burn extinguish and return unused fuel to bottle of seal into burner with screw top.
Well thank you ... glad you enjoyed it. Yeah the stand is a nice idea ... but little too heavy and hard to keep up with parts. The wire cloth type stands will fit inside your pot and are very cheap, durable and easy to make a new one! Tinny at Minibull Designs makes them too. I've found the optimum height for a trangia ... or the tatonka is 1.5 inches (38 mm) above the burner for your pot bottom ..
