Is there a reason this sounds so similar to Scarlatti's K87 sonata? Both very beautiful pieces of music, and Gilels, as always, does this one justice.
One must listen to a great harpsichordist as well as make sure to use a correct French instrument that is appropriate. Remember, Rameau wrote this for harpsichords, so we must give the instrument its fair due , even if just for inspiration. This can only be the piece it is in its greatness because of its original.

This is a beautiful rendition, much better than those on the harpsichord/clavichord.
