I knew someday someone would make an epic martial arts film that actually matters. Those kung fu films in the past had those great fight scenes, but very few had a great story to tell without being cheesy. Films like these makes people really want to learn Wing Chun and take it seriously. Not to show you're tough and beat the shit out of people, that's kinda a given and what attracts you to it in the first place, just to calm and defend yourself when needed after you've learned it for years.

The main problem with Ving Tsun, is that it had so many successors... Ving Tsun, Wing Tsun (W.T.), Ving Tsun (V.T.), Wing Tzun, Wing Chung, Wing Shun, Wing Tsung, Wyng Tjun, Ving Chun (VC) and so on, each a little bit different, and every grandmaster claims that his style is "the true wing chun", which came from yip man when he was at his best... and everybody is right and everybody is wrong.

It's really just funny that way.

@TheGeekySkeptic There is no two instructors that teach the same, no matter what style of martial art it is. This is really the beauty of an art form. What fun would it be to get trained to become a robot? William Cheung sees the forms as Karate Kata. I would have to agree that it works for him, based on the number of street fights he won when he was young.

On the one hand of course, you are correct. Of course every one teaches it a little bit differently. However, I think we can also agree that Karate is very different from Ving Tzun, and that Shaolin Kung fu is very different from capoeira.

The main problem I see in respect to Ving Tzun is the so called "Descendant dispute", as it's sometimes called. Mainly, that the different schools vary quite a lot in their style. Not the teachers IN each school. It's kind of hard to choose.

To all those who have to wear diapers when they think of being "In The Lineage"; Ip Man himself would tell you its about the Kung Fu, the excellence gained through hard work that matters, not who taught who what. If you approach Wing Chun openly, and study under someone who has mastered the skills and is skilled at teaching you can go through the sky. It is YOUR diamond-intent to master Kung Fu that matters most!

This movie is amazing! I watched it online and I can't wait to see it on the big screen. It has all the quality of an epic WWII drama "Schindler's List" style, plus incredible Kung-Fu action. Donnie is a great actor and this is the role of his life. I hope the West embraces this movie. It deserves to be among the best, not just of action movies, but of ALL movies.
