  • Yes..Yes...your goodness and happiness depend on the quality of your thoughts. Be good to each other and to our Mother. To go against one another, is to go against Nature. "Honor thy Father and thy Mother" means, to me, an admonition to respect and honor and each other and our home. Our "impact" will be judged by those who come after us - let us be good to each other and this place, lest we be cursed as uncaring and affectionless by our own children.

    ----I love your video. Faved!

  • @AGNOSSI Why, thank you! :-D

  • Cool ★★★★★

  • Such an incredible viewpoint. Of course, I say that because it's exactly like my own.

  • @KaraRvn

I am a life-long atheist, a physics major, and I feel very much the same about the world as you do if this video is any indication. You are awesome! Science is awesome!

  • @UmbralSea Why thank you! :-D

  • I liked the analogy with the railroad ties :-) Nice video.

  • @dada31415 Thank you! :-)

  • In the video: butthurt atheist thinking he actually found the meaning of life.

  • @aap998

Aap998: Won't watch the video long enough to tell that I'm a she, not a he. XP

Seriously though, if you're interested in the "meaning of life," I recommend reading Viktor E. Frankl.

  • @KaraRvn Btw, my butt isn't hurt. It's soft and kiss-ably smooth. ;-)

  • I tend to liken the personal killing of God to taking the lid off the universe.

I understand the fear the religious have when they see disbelief and wonder what will happen to morality.

The truth is, while a concept of God isn't necessary to have a 'good' morality, there is no inherent principles in atheism that make one follow the 'good'.

In fact, one can see a reason to be 'evil' in order to leave a legacy. One can build by immorality, cruelty, selfishness, mendaciousness etc.

  • @Grayto Speak for yourself regarding seeing the reason to be 'evil'. Evil people will do evil things regardless of their faith or lack of it. Just when a faithful person does it, they sometimes blame their actions on a holy task assigned to them to carry out.

  • @bcFiRe12

When did I say I was speaking for someone else specifically?

When did I say people of faith aren't capable of malevolent actions?

All I mean to point out is, that in an atheist universe, the conceptual space for doing evil things with a good conscience, or transcending these descriptors of 'good' or 'evil' is possible.

The contention with this video, is an atheist stance of intent evil, or amoral/immorality is equally tenable as an altruistic one.

  • @Grayto There is always "conceptual space" for doing evil things or transcending those ideas in any philosophy, including Theism. Haven't you heard of Euthopro's dilemma?

  • @KaraRvn

It depends on the person. And if a person fears their faith is what maintains their morality I'll take their case on their own word. I would by wary of universalizing or offering myself as an example.

Yes, and you still reside in the conceptual space where there is such a thing as 'evil'.

  • @KaraRvn

if you assume evil, then you must assume good. thus, you assume a moral giver.

but you just neglect that part with your vain reasonings.

The fool says in his heart, There is no God.

    ~Psalm 14:1-3

  • @Grayto There are also no inherent principles in Theism that make one follow the greater good. For every chapter and verse in Christian or Muslim holy books that seems to promote the good, I can easily find one that seems to promote atrocities.

In any case, the idea of a god is whatever people want it to be at the time--parent figure, boss, friend, master, beloved, avenger, pacifier, etc. All they're giving up is a kind of psychological mirror. Oh, and I don't get the "universe lid" analogy.

  • @KaraRvn

I only mean to point out that IF you intend this video to assuage theists that an agreeable or sympathetic morality is possible in atheism, you are only giving one case of an infinite possibilities and eliding the fact that absolute 'evil' or simply amorality is possible.

Secondly, you are assuming that kindness = positivity, constructiveness, and malevolence = negativity, destruction.

Like many atheists, you don't believe in god, but you believe in his shadow. (morality)

  • @Grayto No, this video wasn't even intended for Theists. Of course absolute evil or amorality is possible in any belief system or lack thereof. So?

And I find your assumptions quite insulting--before asserting that morality is the shadow of your god, you must first make a logical connection between this god and morality. I have yet to see anyone capable of doing that, or of truly answering Euthophro's Dilemma.

  • @KaraRvn

are you absolutely sure there a possibility?

"before asserting that morality is the shadow of your god, you must first make a logical connection between this god and morality"

    answer:

if you assume evil, then you must assume good.

thus, you assume a moral giver.

now answer this: was hitler wrong to kill 6 million jews?

  • legacy?!?!?!?!?

i got news for you... 1 year after your death you will have been long forgotten.

store up your treasures in heaven.

  • @dustydirt *shrugs* How could you know that?

I suppose it's conceivable to leave no legacy...if you don't talk to anyone for the rest of your life, have no career, no children, and make no contributions to any fields of art or science. But that doesn't seem like a good plan to me. :-P

I don't know why you'd think no one leaves a legacy beyond one year. I was just reading Mark Twain yesterday.

  • @KaraRvn

but who cares??? about mark twain. i mean yes, he's was a great man. but if there is a heaven & a hell. that's all that matters to "him" right now. if there is a hell (which there is) & if he's in a place of torment (hell). i'm sure he would trade his meaningless legacy to be with the LORD in heaven. you see, if there is no God, then what does it all mean? who cares about anything... if it feels good do it. but if there is God, then He should be all that matters.

  • @dustydirt If you can't find meaning in life without God, then I feel sorry for you. I can think of many reasons to embrace life. I don't have a god that I worship but I care about many things and people. Religion is not a necessary part of the life experience.

  • @bcFiRe12

life with God has, in every way, been so much better than the life i lead for 40 years without Him. I've been there... & i'll never go back to life without God. life is so much more fulfilling.

if there is a God, which there is... then He created life. so how much more can He teach about the things He created. God is infinite, we are finite much more than you'll ever realize. so you can go on embracing(hugging) the trees, as for me, i'll embrace the living God who created the trees.

  • @dustydirt How do you know there is a god?

  • @jacobromu .

    one word: creation

  • @dustydirt How do you know that a god created creation and not a generic creator who just wants to torture us?

  • @jacobromu

    generic creator... wow!

so you see, when you really logically think about it. evolution is foolishness, therefore, a God could only be the true answer to creation. its a great start jaco. that you realize how impossible it is for life to come from non-living things (i.e. a rock).

now think about this... we torture our own self, not God. the one true living God of the Judaeo-Christian bible. any other god is just an idol.

so tell me, in what way is this life torturing youy???

  • @dustydirt You did not respond. How do you know that the creator who created creation is the Judaoe Christian god, and not Kthulu or any of the things you think are idols?

  • @jacobromu

i believe that the Bible is the infallible, inspired, inerrant Word of the living God.

The universe was created in six literal, 24-hour days about 6,000 years ago (Matthew 19:4; Exodus 20:11; Genesis 1:1,5).

    that's how!

  • @dustydirt I know the stories, I've read the book.

But now I must ask, Why do you beleive that the bible is the inf, insp, inerr, Word?

  • @jacobromu

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

For we walk by faith, not by sight.

if you had truly read the stories, you should have known this.

everyone knows there's the one true living God, it's just that you choose to suppress that belief because you love your sin. bottom line every time.

just like we don't see gravity nor do we know what it is. we know the consequences if we don't abide. i challenge you..put some gravity in a bottle & paint it red 4 me

  • @dustydirt Dude. I'm a chapel piano player. I used to be Christian. But I'm glad youre acknowledging that there is not enough evidence for god and you need faith.

How do you know that I know that there is one true living god?

What does gravity have to do with how you know that the bible is the inf, insp, inerr, Word?

I can tell you why I beleive in gravity with empirical study and Baysian probabilities, but you can't back your god claims up.

  • @jacobromu

creation is enough evidence for any rational person. if you wish to believe that we came from a rock, you're welcome to believe that, but that is just foolish.

faith is to believe what you do not see. the reward of this faith is to see what you believe.

btw- what on earth is a chapel piano player?

  • @dustydirt You're beginning to bore me to death. :-P *passes out on floor, follows white light...meets invisible pink unicorn.* ;-)

(Check out Edward Current's video if you don't know what I mean.)

  • @KaraRvn

    don't confuse conviction with boredom.

stay away from the wht light, because then you will believe in Jesus & it will be too late.

in the mean time, go visit great-great-great-great-great - grandpa

at your local zoo. see monkey swing. swing monkey swing.

lol, darwin surely made a monkey out of you.

but in all seriousness, seek Jesus. its the only way to find true comfort & peace.

check this video in youtube (follow link below)... please! i do care about you.

    watch?v=Eq-36n_98vA

  • @dustydirt Eventually you might have to decide which is more important--the God in your mind or the people around you. If anyone is truly devoted to doing good for others, they should be willing to do it even if they must suffer the pains of Hell as punishment.

Not that I believe it exists, I'm just saying that IF, for example, God told me to kill my child, I would refuse even if it meant infinite suffering on my part. Whether or not there is a God, it could not possibly be all that matters.

  • @KaraRvn

what on earth are u talking about. all of humanity means a whole lot 2 me, even u,is why i'm trying to help you realize we didnt evolve from monkeys which in turn evolved from a rock 4.6 billion years ago.but if u really want 2 believe that foolish fairytale, well then what can i do? what if God told u to kill your sin? would u kill it? or is it 2 much fun? God never intended 2 kill anyones child. not abrahams, not yours, not mine. all He wants is for u 2 repent & trust in His son Jesus

  • Well spoken! thumbs up ... both ... and way up

  • @charkopolis Thank you! :-)

  • I've been making this point for years! Thank you! You've earned a subscriber.

  • @shanedk Hey, great! Thanks Shane! ^^

  • Nice video :) What is your job exactly? You said a career in biology but that can still lead to a lot of different jobs.

Also good job on the other video, I didn't feel like making a video myself about it because I just laughed at that guy's ignorance <_<

  • @alfonsokilla Thank you! I'm going into forestry I think; I'm still in school. I just know that I love biology in general and plant biology in particular.

  • @KaraRvn yw :) and cool :D I like biology too but I just don't like studying it, like I love parts of it (evolution mainly) but I don't like parts that require learning a lot by heart. I'm studying philosophy probably why I like videos like this :)

  • @KaraRvn

oh great, a tree hugger. just what humanity needs.

  • @dustydirt Yep. :-P You're just jealous. *hugs dustydirt* ;-)

  • @KaraRvn

    lol

    embrace God. not the tree.

worship the creator not the creation.

  • Wow Kara

That was pretty cool. How did you do it?

  • I agree, I feel the same way.
