why rev the piss out of it right on start up?(really, does it have a purpose?) i understand that it is a race bike meant to be rebuild often, but still. at least give the oil a chance to circulate.
@turtlemann14 They dont have an idle circuit and the only way to keep the engine from loading up and stalling out is to keep revving them up and down. It sounds like they are revving the crap out of it, but really they aren't when you consider the red line is around 20,000rpm and they are revving to maybe 6 or 8000rpm
I want one as well. but I think the startup is much more cool when you have 2 little japanese guys in white jumpsuits and ball caps push start you. Do they come with the bike?
dont want to sound like all other honda multi fans but thats awsome really love the sound of that 250 6 there isnt anything ellse like it ever. would love to see it myself atleast one of the survivours doing a lap or too!!!
I think what makes the whole Hailwood / Honda relationship crazy is that Mike won using clearly inferior handling Hondas! I have no idea what vintage of Honda this is, but it looks a lot newer than the first Honda 250 Mike won on (did I mention meaner?).
Just the sound of these gets my adrenaline pumping, what must it be like to ride them?!! If you don't get your adrenalin stoked then I have bad news for you; you're dead. Great vid, thanks.
I think its funny that croch rocket guys trash talk there own kind, lol. I am a car guy but this thing is cool, you can't compare a race bike to a road bike so why bother. these old 2 strokes sound amazing when they flying by at full throttle.
@ORIANA250 Sorry mate, but these ain't two strokes, all 4 strokes and that includes the 125 5cyl, this was developed from the 50cc twin cylinder, hence 5 cylinders for the 125, all verifiable on the net if you look. :))
@leyburnhealeyman Not true, Honda asked George Beale to make a replica of the 6 as they did not have one in their museum in Tokyo. He made 6, each casting 200.000 sterling, the engines were built by GPX in Le Mans in France, I met the young engineer who pressed the rollerbearing cranks together, they wanted to go with modern shell bearings but could'nt make a one piece crank that would work reliably, he reckoned it was like balancing 13 pool balls on top of another!
In response to Malalo's comment about idling, they DON'T, most racing machines don't have idle circuts in the carbs, especially these "vintage" racers. Gotta keep blipping them just to keep them running.
Yes indeed these bikes were so fast that most people could not handle them. I absolutely loved the 2 strokers of yesteryear. My first experience was on a RD 350 which I could not keep on the ground. Put that 6cylinder motor in a modern frame with state of the art brakes and I do believe that nothing in today's market could touch it.
I wish it were true that these old fossils could be faster on a track than a modern 600/1000 supersport motorcycle but it just isn't. Time and technology moves on. However, I would not classify these bikes as 'shit'. Fantastic pieces of technology and the pinnacle of engineering in their time. In a way, I'm a little surprised that they still exist. Lots of times, old racers are pushed to the back of the garage and forgotten then sold for scrap.
If the rider over-reved the enging most of the valves got intermingled, they were normally sprung valves, not desmo. The mechanics changed the engine in 10 minutes flat, I saw it.
@Dualshock21 its a race bike with incredibly small pistons... 6 to be exact.. 5 even smaller ones on the 125... higher res = more power.. which is why they were banned
@danthemanzizzle I have a motorized bike too, among other motorcycles and scooters. I have the same engine as you do in yours. Mine does 52kph (31mph)
@danthemanzizzle hahahaha, you'd rather have a ten a penny R6 than this absolutely priceless piece motorcycle racing history. This is an absolute legend, unlike the ten a penny, dime a dozen R6.. But to each his own, it takes all sorts.
does the RD161 (four cylinder) has a special crankshaft ? it sounds really differend like ''normal'' 4 inlines of that time like the CB750 or a Suzuki GS750 etcetera...
only downfall of this video is 99% of it is just looking at the back of the tailpipes and tire. lol nice way to jumpstart a bike tho in the beggining with the car lol
Sorry, but a Huyabusa just does't do it for me. Just an ugly rocket. This Honda 6 cylinder is a machine to be proud of and cherish. I bet in 50 years this will still be remembered as it was 50 years ago. Truely remarkable Honda engineering.
@wingking077 Racing bikes didn't Idell they had no pilot jets in the carburetors and the power band was so narrow running on open megaphone exhaust you had to keep it revving so as to not go into a stole. A very fast beautiful machine to ride and angled superbly. And To JTV84 If I took you on the Honda 6 you'd crap your self

There was no flywheel effect either, so if you had combustion cycle-to-cycle varability during idle, a single misfire could nearly stall the engine, Closing the throttle would also cause the engine to decelerate suddenly, almost to the point of stalling.
These machines represent a big big breakthru in MC engine design at the time. When you have 6 cylinders totaling 250cc (45cc per cylinder) you have to be very very carefull about the accumulated parasitic drag of all the bearings, windage losses, lube (adequate, no excess), ring frictions, alignment of crank bore and perpendicularity of cylinder bores to crank etc etc. jeez my mind staggers at the engineering of this pioneering effort and attention to detail.
this motorbike is made for pure evil, this is made to kill, to press to the limit, if i got my finger in to one of those i would press them to the MAXIMUM
i didnt say a busa wasnt faster, but its def not unique due to the fact that every credit card maxing newb has one...this kind of bike gets respect from the 2 wheel community where as a hayabusa is just another "turn key punk" that doesnt slide knee and just rides strait
that is a wery stupid statement....... busa is the maxum of technology and is THE ULTIMATE MACHINE TO RIDE i dont know why some people think that stupid old design bikes are "something special"?? i have had yamaha rd350lc end after many broke downs in short period of time, when she lose the olie from engine and grease my back tyre then a sad FUCK THIS OLD SHITT and that is what it is......i feel pitty for you...
look i find that every kind of motorbike have something special but some people are so one direction if you get my drift...and i belive that old things belong to past...ciao.
LOL m8 u are stupid...this bike is old and have only 250 CC and busa have hmm 1300? and this is a monster compare to the CC and it has 6 cylinders omfg?:D busa have only 4...:D and this is 250cc...
i bet 1000$ that this "old shit" beats you and your busa at the racetrack.. really it will kick your arse so hard that you will be ashamed for the rest for your life calling this great machine OLD SHIT..
actualy i did drive races with water cooled yamaha 250cc in 1981,1982,1983.. the engine minimum rpm were +-3000rpm,and top was 16-18,000rpm so i know what im talking about....my bike was from 1976 and it head one disc brake in front and drum behind, two cilinders and dry clutch out of case...crazy machine,BUT technilogy past this one by...i like to see them and "smell+hear"them but it this the thing of the past......
ahhh, i thought you were talking shit on old bikes, I'm sorry I jumped to conclusions so quickly. I had a 1988 FZR400 that was fully built, that thing would embarrass bigger bikes all day. Still miss that bike, about as close to an F1 sound as I'll ever be able to have again.
@jigibao The reason that there is still an interest in these machines years after they were manufactured is because they were the technical pinnacle of that era for four strokes and they are special in a way a Bussa never can be. Honda then withdrew from the world championships; two strokes dominated thereafter.
However good a Bussa is it won't be remembered for being a pioneering motorcycle, it's an overweight, over powered pig of a machine for fat, stupid riders who don't know how to ride.
ha ha ha ha ha ,you are lucky my brother dont live close to you,if you would say to him he would brake your jaw ...ha ha ha for me its okay...cheers from jigibao....
@jigibao lmao.........no in fact your brother and I would sit down together and have a beer and talk about our love of bikes (despite the fact that you or he owns a pig of a one). Perhaps also discuss that Italy has produced not only some of the best and most beautiful looking bikes but some of the greatest art, architecture and music and of course Ago and now Vali. Ciao bello.......lol
@jigibao no man my biking days sadly came to and end in my twenties. I remember when the first busa was unleashed and nobody could believe anything that fast could be allowed on the road. Nowadays I like especially race bikes and historic bikes.
i use to race yamaha 250 special two stroke twin engine,it have head drum brakes in front and back and engine rew far above 16,000rpm... after race i was deaf for week.. i know the feeling...sadly many of my "good and bad"friends die because bad brakes, bad tyres, bad roads....jea what to say....last two stroke i have head was yamaha rd350lc...elsie...
Nice bike the the RD250, I used to race a highly modified Suzuki GT250, it was a great bike for someone learning the craft of road racing but like all bikes of the time, it was compromised by the poor tyre technology.
jea tell me abaout it,tyres were more "plastic then rubber" and only police could afford "metzeller".. i was driving on bold old tyres...was more slipping then riding...what to say, poor country poor parents..ah it is past...i sold my rd250lc"modified 350lc two years ago whan after drive i feal my back tyre slippin? when i stoped at home i see engine spit out oil on my back tyre, then i say ENAUGH AND GOODBYE...
Yeaa, nevermind that this Honda is worth 20x more than any Hayabusa, even with the 20ft extended 24kt gold platinum diamond encrusted double chromed swingarm that comes with every busa nowadays. Busas are ok, but they've become the Honda Civic of the motorcycle world. Long live Honda Motorcycles, and this AWESOME piece of machinery!
Being older I saw the Honda 125cc, 250cc and 500cc raced live.
I watched the duels between Hailwood on the Honda's and Agostini on the MV's, then there were the likes of John Cooper, Phil Read and not for getting Percy Tate on the Triumph's then there was things like the Owen Greenwood Special I wonder how many people remember that. Great days
There's one here for a start! I'd pay money to be able to hear the Mini Special again (maybe). There was a meeting at Oulton where, after the press "Hailwood only wins because he's on Honda" tirade, he jumped on a Seeley Matchless and still ran rings round the opposition. Wish I could hear the Matchless again too.
It seems that only one other viewer picked that the 125 was a four cylinder not five. I have the sounds of TT on the Duke video, History of the TT. These sounds were originally sold on a casette audo tape in about 1970 and the commentator from 1957 - 1967 was Murray Walker before he went to F1.
goerge4 your lucky that I don't live next to you----you like the sound only in a 9-5 day???? or on you computer---I would give you a chorus of 883cc-1000cc -90cc-150cc-400cc until you became friends or moved :);):)you talk about your neighbor getting a fine and mufflers is this your idea of a good citizen, your a ???
the only what I am missing on this vid. is the heroe Mike the bike Hailwood. This man and the Honda six are ( were ) one unit! At at last ( "ceterum censeo..." ) my greatest wish in life is, that silencers on motorbikes (also street-Motos ) should be forbidden! Especially on fourstrokes a silencer is a sin!!!!
are you nuts?? we've got a moron in my Neighborhood that started his Harley straightpipe at 6 in the morning during the summer..he woke up everyone around..
we got sick and tired of it and he finally got a fine and put a muffler..
how would you like if i'd start a bike with no muffler besides your opened bedroom window while you;'re sleeping?
i don't mind for racing ..as a matter of fact, i enjoy the noise they make..but not in a city..it would make it unbearable..
woah,that bike sounds angry.

that is a wery stupid statement....... busa is the maxum of technology and is THE ULTIMATE MACHINE TO RIDE i dont know why some people think that stupid old design bikes are "something special"?? i have had yamaha rd350lc end after many broke downs in short period of time, when she lose the olie from engine and grease my back tyre then a sad FUCK THIS OLD SHITT and that is what it is......i feel pitty for you...
jigibao 2 years ago
i am soooo sorry that not everyone agrees with your one eyed point of view.
unclesonnyonutube 2 years ago
look i find that every kind of motorbike have something special but some people are so one direction if you get my drift...and i belive that old things belong to past...ciao.
jigibao 2 years ago
LOL m8 u are stupid...this bike is old and have only 250 CC and busa have hmm 1300? and this is a monster compare to the CC and it has 6 cylinders omfg?:D busa have only 4...:D and this is 250cc...
suxyrulz 2 years ago
i didnt compare busa with this bike....someone else pull my tong....i like two stroke but more cc....like kawasaki 750 two stroke....bomb...
jigibao 2 years ago
i bet 1000$ that this "old shit" beats you and your busa at the racetrack.. really it will kick your arse so hard that you will be ashamed for the rest for your life calling this great machine OLD SHIT..

actualy i did drive races with water cooled yamaha 250cc in 1981,1982,1983.. the engine minimum rpm were +-3000rpm,and top was 16-18,000rpm so i know what im talking about....my bike was from 1976 and it head one disc brake in front and drum behind, two cilinders and dry clutch out of case...crazy machine,BUT technilogy past this one by...i like to see them and "smell+hear"them but it this the thing of the past......
jigibao 2 years ago
ahhh, i thought you were talking shit on old bikes, I'm sorry I jumped to conclusions so quickly.

However good a Bussa is it won't be remembered for being a pioneering motorcycle, it's an overweight, over powered pig of a machine for fat, stupid riders who don't know how to ride.

ha ha ha ha ha ,you are lucky my brother dont live close to you,if you would say to him he would brake your jaw ...ha ha ha for me its okay...cheers from jigibao....
jigibao 1 year ago
@jigibao lmao.........no in fact your brother and I would sit down together and have a beer and talk about our love of bikes (despite the fact that you or he owns a pig of a one). Perhaps also discuss that Italy has produced not only some of the best and most beautiful looking bikes but some of the greatest art, architecture and music and of course Ago and now Vali. Ciao bello.......lol

aaahhh did you try new busa??? realy its a superbike...it is highway monster...and me,im happy with my "black gsx1200 inazuma"...cheers...

Nice bike the the RD250, I used to race a highly modified Suzuki GT250, it was a great bike for someone learning the craft of road racing but like all bikes of the time, it was compromised by the poor tyre technology.
thebones 1 year ago
jea tell me abaout it,tyres were more "plastic then rubber" and only police could afford "metzeller".. i was driving on bold old tyres...was more slipping then riding...what to say, poor country poor parents..ah it is past...i sold my rd250lc"modified 350lc two years ago whan after drive i feal my back tyre slippin? when i stoped at home i see engine spit out oil on my back tyre, then i say ENAUGH AND GOODBYE...

Great days

18astra:
There's one here for a start! I'd pay money to be able to hear the Mini Special again (maybe). There was a meeting at Oulton where, after the press "Hailwood only wins because he's on Honda" tirade, he jumped on a Seeley Matchless and still ran rings round the opposition. Wish I could hear the Matchless again too.

It seems that only one other viewer picked that the 125 was a four cylinder not five. I have the sounds of TT on the Duke video, History of the TT. These sounds were originally sold on a casette audo tape in about 1970 and the commentator from 1957 - 1967 was Murray Walker before he went to F1.

the only what I am missing on this vid. is the heroe Mike the bike Hailwood. This man and the Honda six are ( were ) one unit! At at last ( "ceterum censeo..." ) my greatest wish in life is, that silencers on motorbikes (also street-Motos ) should be forbidden! Especially on fourstrokes a silencer is a sin!!!!
BernardoDesmo 3 years ago
are you nuts?? we've got a moron in my Neighborhood that started his Harley straightpipe at 6 in the morning during the summer..he woke up everyone around..
we got sick and tired of it and he finally got a fine and put a muffler..
how would you like if i'd start a bike with no muffler besides your opened bedroom window while you;'re sleeping?
i don't mind for racing ..as a matter of fact, i enjoy the noise they make..but not in a city..it would make it unbearable..

Hi, can you write any louder? I can´t understand you:-)
In Germnay we say : Is it too loud, than you´re too old.
Btw. We talk about motorcycles. Harley are no motorcycles. They are lorries on two wheels.
Maybe you´re right and I´m nuts. But surely I am not political correct , Mr. "Spießbürger" ( let it translate to you )
