  • you have to question the sanity of sombody willing to actually get in that thing and live in it. I'm begginning to wonder who is really sane in this world. haven't people from the royal navy who served in the subs now got ill health related to nucelar subs

  • No they don't

  • blacklions714 Oh Yes!!,, there is , No one uses active Sonar, today, so days of the Ping is over except for internet use, ;) subs look for, black holes to hide behind Not in, read up on ,, sound refraction

  • not everything is right! some boats use a high frequency active sonar which is impossible to localise! but its range is not very long and its mostly used for terrain detection

  • Is there a way to supress sound waves from bouncing back? What I mean to say, if there was a way to suppress sonar? could a foam padding or maybe a type of device that can cancel out sound waves. I just now gave myself an idea, typing this, I will research how to improve and maintain the submarines ability to remain stealthily. Hopefully Britain's economy improves to help gain more money then America, to achieve greater and more superior units. I can't stand my country here in America right now.

  • Yes there is. The new German U212A class has metal that absorbs all sonar waves. However, the Germans are not selling it to anyone but the German Navy.

  • @BugattiVeyron135 the Italian Navy also uses it being one of our closest allies, but they don't know about the tech.

  • yes blacklions ,research american submarine VIRGINA CLASS its americas most stealthy sub to date ,better technology than german subs

  • i was surprised to learn that many people don't know that the us navy grows their own vegetables using hydroponic/aeroponics on-board theie submarines under artificial lights. to provide fresh veg. Does the royal navy do this as well?

  • how risky and dangerous is it in the royal navy at the moment? I don't wanna risk losing my eyes or limbs for anyone or anything. Rightly so too. Perhaps its not wise to become involved with war. Do people get injured all the time and not mention in news

  • Kudos to the Royal Navy for having the intellect to put a video like this on youtube. It shows that they really understand that their mission is better served by interacting and engaging with their public. I think the pentagon could learn something here. I have to ask though, could they please film their next video on something more advanced than a cellphone camera.

  • Rather a Virginia class though!!!

  • Interesting video. Shame it looks as if it was shot using a mobile phone camera.

  • I want one and a free crew plus!

  • I'll give you the boarding party from the cornwall

  • ha I could see a coup de tat in any other country, oh well

  • the ROYAL navy is the best ,once a matelot always a matelot

  • Oso1G you all over youtube with US propaganda...who cares about US dude.

  • This the most advanced attack submarine in the world and by far the best far better than the amercican seawolf which is like old and slow.

  • Have a look at my video about the Royal Navy.

  • Yep, were back where we belong ON TOP !!!!!!!

All our new ships and subs kick ass...

  • Well, it's a fine submarine on paper, and the UK's Perisher course does produce some of the best submarine COs in the world, but Astute is not the best submarine in the world. Tough to quantify "best" but the Seawolf and Virginia are unmatched for stealth and combat power, while the 212A and 214 are excellent on the SSK end.

  • What about the new USN DD(X)? Astute looks the dogs though. Anyone here about her being launched sans a kettle? (Or should I say kettle element?)

  • Still not a Seawolf or Virginia class though!!!

  • At least as good as a Virginia class, and Seawolf is a dead project now, even the US DoD consider them too expensive, hence the shortened production.

  • Now RN has world's best surface warship (HMS Darling) and best submarine :D

  • Hats off to all those who pulled this together, another job well done, demonstrating the force and efficiency of British engineering. I only wish I could be there for her PRT.

  • this sub is lethal..... u dnt wana go 2 war against this bitch lol.. NO QUESTION this is the best in the world

  • Yeah but what good is one?

  • ITS MADE OF WOOD !!!!

  • the typhoons are still the best subs ever, dwalfs everything and are uber awsome!!!!!!

  • Astute is better than anything the Americans have, personally its the best submarine in the world.

    WRONG.

  • jesus kid you dont half go on..if only you had irrefutible proof...oh well..we'll let Britiains combat records compared to yours do the taling for us..ta ta.....and grow up. im proud to fight alongside US forces (im British Army)..but kids like u are..as one US marine said "an embaressment"

  • Oso1g...mate..im in the British Army yeah....was with 3 para for nearly 10 years but have transferred to 29 Commando..and having seen some of you SEAL lads breathing out of their arses trying to keep up the pace on Dartmoor....i think you need to pen a letter the US Defence and suggest a better training regime is put in place. By the way im proud to work alongside the US..its just berks like u who let them down.

  • Well, we would say that, wouldn't we, being a wee bit biased ;) There are many other superb Subs out there too though, the new German ones are pretty scary. Anyway, let's get on with building the new Aircraft Carriers!

  • This is probably the best submarine in world.

  • Yes and there are 4 in this class too!! We also have 2 new Aircraft carriers on their way!

  • Astute is better than anything the Americans have, personally its the best submarine in the world.

  • Astute is better than anything the Americans have, personally its the best submarine in the world.

You're on crack rock if you think this sub is superior to the Yank Seawolf.

  • its about time we started, building defenses for ourselves britain has become so week with this mupets in charge within goverment

  • i wanna built something better than this.

  • Astute class are most complex submarines ever built, an engineering dream...on time on budget unlike Eurofighter...you Brits should be proud..fuel lasts 25 yrs, lifetime of boat...engineer world singing it's praise..Falklands theory of ----classified-----...

  • The main reason the EF was over budget and took longer was countries backing out like France, then the Germans did but decided to come back in. The UK had to pick up the bill and work of the German agreement.

  • Amen, the govt' has reduced the Armed forces to an overstretched under equipped mess. I rekon only 4 of these subs and only 1 carrier will ever see service. "cutbacks" :/
