  • LOL Rename this video how to make a shiv. Who gave that guy a knife?

  • Carbon steel blade?

  • the 1st step is totally wrong way...!

  • U r very good in sharpen the knives ,bt idont like yr knife

  • i sent my knife to gillete to sharpen my knife..they sent it back as a razor..

  • did you learn it in prison?

  • Literbug

  • I spit on my wet stone

  • Badass.

  • That was exactly what I needed to see! Thanks for the great vid!

  • try and aim for the bottom corner

  • dem deck chairs

  • Did you have to put water or oil on the stone before you started? Good vid.

  • @thatguywiththeegg My grandfather suggested that you run water over your whetstone and get it pretty wet before starting. I think he said something about oil being better but most people have been saying soaking in water is fine when I ask around

  • @bismark48315 Ok thanks, I have always been confused because some say use water, some say use oil, some say use it dry etc...

  • @thatguywiththeegg you should put the stone in a container with water during 20 minutes before sharpening the knife (I'm sorry if I made any grammatical mistakes, but I'm chilean and I don't have a good level of English)

  • @poenauta Thanks.

  • @poenauta you dont have a good level of english? thats a joke you speak and spell better than any American i know

  • @poenauta your English is flawless. :) since you are from Chile, i presume you speak Spanish? i speak both Spanish and English :) i know my message is not exactly related to this topic, i just wanted to point out that there is no error in your comment.

  • @manchapan22 Thank you! And yes, I speak both Spanish and English but for some reason It's hard for me to speak in English. I guess I get nervous :S

  • @poenauta yea, it is sometimes a strange thing to speak a language other than your native. My native language is Spanish, I'm from Mexico :)

  • @poenauta I think that's an Oil Stone.I have one that look's just like it.

  • Mora of sweden

  • It's funny I thought this guy would sound like a skinhead cuz of his tattoos and shit and hid hands looked like a gangsters but he sounds like Australian or British anyways can I use a regular brick or something?

  • but what is for the other side of the sharpening stone, the dark one???

  • @lanzermonarca from what I've seen in other videos of other people, I think it's simply wood. They use it as a final touch to polish well the blade.

  • @fdesouchecom Its a strop, usually leather as far as i know, some use polishing paste on it too, but i dont think thats a leather strop. I simply use my belt, it does the job good enough.

  • imagine being tied up , coming to and seeing those hands doing that ...

  • lol for some reason this is a good ASMR video.

  • when the crap hits the fan mate, I hope you're on our side!

  • ya but am i the only one that noticed the french leather or what that was. lol just messing good stuff. but what knife was that.

  • a british national with a sharp as fuck knife :/

  • WHY can't more instructional videos be like this? Just SHOW the shit being done!

  • I won't leave a negative comment

  • This video should be played for congress along with a sign that says "NO ONE LEAVES UNTIL IT'S FIXED"

  • i dont like this guys voice!

  • I sent this link to someone that owed me money, and said it was me. Dude paid up.

    Thanks, man.

  • How to scratch the knife

  • The sharper the knife, the less likely the blade will snap off in someone's skull.

  • Some how your hands remind me of a killer in a horror movie sharping his knife for the kill.. But nice tattoos dude.

  • whoa whoa whoa....no one asked for your life story bud!!!!

  • Its great that videos like this is out there... too many people dont know shit about sharpening them. And btw i have the exact same knife O_O it was cheap and has never let me down :)

  • Wanna do this with a knife blank

  • do support bnp youve gt a lot of england tatoos hahah

  • thats some nice work. i have a similar knife that needs a good once over.

  • why didnt you put it on water

  • I have a natural arkansas sharpening stone but it won't do shit!

  • very nice video, can anyone tell me if 1098 surgical steel is any good for a karambit knife

  • Is it a mora knife?

  • Excellent job.

  • Comment removed

  • WASTED PUSSY

  • rock sharpens knife, knife cuts paper, paper... paper's just fucked either way

  • @stidham07 Ah. Whats a Puff?

  • Comment removed

  • First blood part II, Rambo does the same thing haha before the drop in nam

  • Not to be rude or anything man, but what kind of work do you do that allows you to have tats on your hands?

  • @screaminghellion knife sharpening

  • @screaminghellion smuggling heroin

  • Haha now you gotta pick up all the little shreds of paper

  • Thank you...no BS just good work!!

  • Good technique there, I have several of those Moras, you really can't beat them for the price, and they hold up as well as knives costing a hundred dollars more. For anything that a knife should be used for, they can take on the best of them. Cheers!

  • Excellent job.

  • can u get a 420 stainless steel bowie knife sharp like this?

  • BASICO!

  • There is nothing scarier than seeing those hands sharpening a knife.

  • @tracyfwb LMAO!!!

  • Sei forte Meraviglioso il tuo coltello!! BRAVO

  • aren't you suppose to put some water on the stone first before sharpening?

  • @kamarulx yes you are.

  • Toaster Strudels arent that good.. the bread crap taste nasty and too flaky. Yuck >=P

  • What a waste of paper...jk dude. Nice video

  • What's with the finger tats? Is that your prison shank you're sharpening?

  • @RightWingCon81 Looks more like a mora. They are great knives for bushcraft.

  • What kind of stone u use?? and what is that secend thing what u use to polish ur blade?? and if u tell me where i can buy it i will be glad

  • @Ptak0076 hes using a double sided whetstone to sharpen and a strop afterwards to clean the edge of any leftovers

  • I've seen many people "claim" to know how to sharpen a knife on a aluminum oxide or carborundum stone, but you certainly DO know what you're doing.

    Excellent instruction.

    THUMBS ↑↑↑↑↑

  • nice vid, but maybe you could have done a voice-over so i know what you are doing and why... just my 2c

  • @dvdk87 I find with his vids is that when he doesn't speak, you need to watch everything because it is that simple. When he is speaks, you need to listen and then watch everything because it's important to hear. I like it best when he doesn't speak because it is that simple.

  • i can do that to but it won't shave and i have problem if the blade of the knive is thicker

  • Drying Dude! Need some water on that stone!

  • Use some water stupid!

  • @AlexGreenGarcia i use wd40 works good

  • @kirklanddavis WD40 attracts dirt. The solution clings to dirt. The only time I recommend using WD40 is when batoning through logs to lubricate the blade.

  • @icychillgrill3 i honestly dont care if my knives get dirty cause with what i do any knife is going to get dirty before the days over anyway but yea if u want a clean blade/one you can do food prep with just use oil or water

  • @kirklanddavis Yeah, I here that. When I go camping I have to have a knife seperate for food prep cause my other knives get used and get dirty.

  • sick dude

  • oh yeah what do they mean?

  • dude you look like you have been in Russian jail . Cuz i live in Latvia i now a a lots of people those tattos mean something.

  • What Grit are on these sides? I recently bought very similar looking sharpening stone, but it didn't say anything about the properties or grit. And it was cheap as dirt, around 0.80$ probably some crap. Those who cost around 40$ probably are good, but that's a hell of a price for a stone.

  • Did you ever stick it in a fat pig?

  • is an oil stone ???

  • Dude it worked, I have the exact same stone, but couldn't get it right, so I guess is like 90% technique.

  • Aw. No ironic paper cut at the end? That would have made me laugh heartily.

  • Free the papers!!!

  • You really should wet the stone, Its the slurry that the water creates that give your knife the really fine edge.

  • a dry stone on a mouse pad... and just judging but by those tats looks like this dude my stab ur eye out and make you look at yourself.

  • That stone should be wet and not dry.

  • I like the tats, I tried ink tattoos at school but being soft as shite I only managed one, stopped me from being a skinhead it did. I loved the 1970's.

  • @plastikbertrand loser, wht do u do now? clean my pool?

  • that is a well sharpened knife.no need for water on the stone.Mora's are great sharp knives.

  • i used pam on my sharpening stone.. now theres bits of black stuff on the ground everywhere

  • Hello i have the same stone as you but i cant figure out what side is medium and what side is fine?

  • That poor tree cut down to make paper and cut again to be on your ground.

  • now its dull again!

  • This knife is not sharp at all. It is just dragging the paper, not cutting it.

  • chrck out my vid of me doing a knife trick

  • Comment removed

  • nice mouse pad

  • Is your last name really rambo?

  • FUCK YOU

  • Nice video but I really wanted to say this throughout the video. "You call that a knife? (Pulls out the Dundee knife) Now this is a knife." Sorry if I butchered the quote.

  • Hey Malc, now that you got that paper all sliced up, how you gonna cook it?

  • Thanks for the demo! A little to much talking though... LOL!

  • someone get this guy a pair of scissors...lol

  • I thought i saw the paper cut the knife.

  • Can i sharpen machetes like this?

  • @Superdetector909

yes it's the same way too sharp your knife but use a whete stone :D

  • With a little more work, that knife will be able to push cut paper. Just did it with mine.

  • yo man love the tats whats it say or the meaning of them

  • nice tats

  • Practice makes perfect.:)

  • Dad? Is that you?

  • i would definately trust a man whith tats on his hands, on how to sharpen a knife.. Good video, straight to the point and no wanky music or text.. nice one

  • cutting all that paper kinda defeated the purpose of sharpening it paper dulls knives very fast but thats cool i just got a mora knife and I have high hopes for it

  • lucky this is not the first shapren knife video i watch

  • Thats sick my friend. whats that second thing you used and where can I obtain one?

  • Good

  • okay i been using my stone wrong but what was the second tool you used and are they sold at knife shops as well?

  • @prettypimpq The 2nd tool was a leather strop

same effect can be had with a leather belt.

  • you should wash your hands.. there's ink in them...

  • sharper than any knife I've sharpened!

  • Some of the people posting comments to this vid know absolutely nothing about sharpening knives or steel.... Comments warning him to use water or he might remove the temper out of the blade are so retarded they almost defy the fact that said person even managed to type it out on a keyboard.. How does one even reply to such nonsense?...

  • Without these type instructional videos, I'd have to live with dull knives, or buy new ones, factory sharpened every time. LOL. Thank You.

  • nice frosts mora, is it carbon version or stainless version?

  • done time much?

    is that your shankin knife

  • hey i gotta question...is it possible to make any knife razor sharp or does it depend on the type of steel?

  • @Bmanbluesify the blade steel has a lot to do with it but so does the blade shape and grind. a hollow ground or scandinavian grind tend to be very sharp and can cut and slice real well. also, if the blade steel is too soft and bendy like a swiss army knife then its not gonna be as sharp as a blade with a harder rhc and higher carbon content.

  • The reason that your paper cutting didn't work out to well is that when you stropped you rolled the edge of the blade at the end of each stroke. Keep it flat and you will be splitting atoms

  • thts a badass strop where can you get those

  • look up Ray Mears sharpen kinfe. He has some nice little tips in his vid you'll like. There's a second part to it too. :D

  • was that a fine, medium, or course stone you used?

  • Simple.....Straight to the point....no bullshit.... I like this vid.. Nice job.

  • how much pressure do you apply? or si ur hand on the blade just to stabilize it

  • is that a Frost Mora 840 Clipper?

  • does it matter if the stone has a few dents in it

  • thats one sharp knife...WOW!

  • i like you work very good and to the point

  • electric paper shredders have come right down in price recently

  • nice one

  • Thank you, johnjayrambo11111. It looks like you're putting a 15' or angle or less on that blade. Asian knifes have a 15' angle. Is it a matter of practice to get used to the feel of the angle, or is there a easier way to get the feel for and achieve the 15' angle edge?

  • looks like you're dry sharpening mate, that could present some problems.

  • why

  • it clogs up the stone, rendering it useless after a while, also, it may chip your blade if you use too much pressure.

  • that's why i clean my often with mild detergent and cold water it works

  • Whetstones don't need Oil or water to sharpen a blade. Many people do use them, but they are never required when using a whetstone. The media and Japanophiles tend to confuse japanese media with actual usage.

Oil and water help carry away swarf but this is on larger metalworks. Only using Oil on a Waterstone would damage it. Theres no such thing as "clogging up the stone". I have a 20 yr old whetstone that still sharpens all my blades.

  • @johnjayrambo11111

Clogs the pores of the stone to begin with, but there is also friction heat, which can be bad for the tempering of the metal. If you use water, the stone isn't clogged as easily, and the risk of de-tempering the steel is minimized, if not eliminated. Not major problems though, if u clean the stone after use, and don't go too fast and heavy on the stone.

  • @swgroc You do fucking realize you would need to heat treated steel to roughly 1400 degrees Fahrenheit to anneal hardened steel, correct? Stop talking out of your ass, people. It's ignorant and VERY fucking annoying.

  • The tip of a knife's edge is really thin, and steel has low heat capacity. That essentially means it heats and cools easily and fast. Friction produces heat. A lot of friction + very small amounts of materials locally + low hc = rather a lot of heat locally. The very tip of the edge might, for a few hundreds of a second, be very hot. Repeat enough times and you might soften the material in the edge. Small risk with manual tools though.

Care to give constructive input, instead of rudeness?

  • @johnjayrambo11111 too much friction, giving it not an uniform swipe of the blade

  • @johnjayrambo11111

dont ask why. use water on the stone.

    -.-

  • @johnjayrambo11111 because it grooves your knife blade you always want to use some sort of oil water or hell your own spit and trust me dude you will be rewarded also try not to push the knife edge away but drag it back toward you like you did on that long strapping stone

  • @johnjayrambo11111

A: It causes more friction, and can cause a differential heat treat if done long enough.

B: The metal particles embed themselves in the stone, making it less effective over time. Also, it scrapes off the stone's coating, making it less effective.

  • @johnjayrambo11111 in some cases when you pass the knife trough the stone the friction creates a heat that could ruin the temper of the steel... in theory... that's the truth... but unless you are sharpening a surgical scalpel that shouldn't give you any problems

  • @recurveninja Some stones dont need to be wet.

  • @recurveninja if he was dry sharpening it wouldve made a screechy sound

  • What a waste of a perfectly good piece of paper!

  • thats ok i got plenty more

  • who cares@60odeeman

  • @60odeeman have a look at this web magicsander com

  • @60odeeman he need to make sure he can make paper decorations in a servival situation ;p

i sharpen my knife's the same way but i use a ceramic hone!!

  • nice

  • Great video! What is the name of your knife and sharpening lock?

  • Very cool!!! was that rod u pulled from the box a leather thing?

  • cool stuff man

  • ahhh thats how you sharpen knives with a stone block thingy what ever you call them.. you sharpen better than gordon ramsey lol

  • that's because gordon ramsey is a complete idiot.

anyone could sharpen better than him.

  • oooh =( but I like watching his programmes he makes me laugh when he talks to people in hell's kitchen.. people could mistaken me for watching a comedy they way I laugh when watching the show =)

  • I think you would like a dmt stone.

  • I own a DMT stone and I'm not a huge fan of it.

  • You need at least 3 grits to get a good result. I have from extra coarse to fine and now my legs are nearly bald :). However skill is far more important than any tools you can buy.

  • not to impressed with the paper demonstration...
