  • paul gilbert seriously makes that guitar come alive

  • Paul Gilbert's such a cool guy. :)

  • awesome guitarist but weird lookin guitar

  • I'm a Skynyrd fan and a Paul Gilbert fan and I can honestly say that he did the song justice while making it sound like only Paul Gilbert could.

Now, if only he'd get the lyrics right...

  • that drum kit looks brand spankin new

  • Damn, he nailed the tone

  • PG has a solid rock n roll heart

  • Música divertida e um senhor guitarrista.

  • Does he remind anyone else of Beck?

  • Very good, except he screwed up the lyrics in the end. "I got 600 miles to ride and do one more show"

  • Technical Mastery!

  • Dude play some fast Slayer songs! Can you do Deicide songs off Till Death Do Us Part Album and do Devil Driver Impending Disaster!

  • Dude play some fast Slayer songs!

  • I like this guy but l did not like that solo at all, put some bends in it fuck all that crazy shit.

  • You guys see that solo?

Clearly he has no clue what he's doing.

  • @TinyKurds Sorry? Say again please. You say he "has no clue what he's doing"? I don't see how you made that connection... Its called "Improv" something that Paul is very good at.

  • @SanctuaryShred I was sarcastically mocking those who are saying that this solo is poorly done. Of course PG knows what he's doing. I'd consider him to be in the top three best guitarists in the world, and the best teacher I've ever seen.

  • @TinyKurds My mistake bro. Rock on!

  • As far as the BS "shredding" comment goes. I do believe they were playing 16th notes in the original solo as well and I don't see anything wrong or distasteful in Paul's version. Plus, no mindlessly repetitive "fat rock" (boo-diddy, boo-diddy) string bends either. There's no overplaying here and his phrasing is even better than Skynyrd's. To top it off, his rhythm work is better to boot. Hey, I grew up listening to this stuff and wore this tape out, so I'm not talking out of my A.

  • Solo sounded good to me, I mean if he played it exactly like skynyrd it wouldn't be interesting.

  • Wearing my PG T-shirt right now :D

  • Oh snap ! Doesn't his guitar sound like a 1976 Gibson Explorer ? How does he get that creamy tone ? Pass me the grits and catfish !

  • No they are not used as monitors ,he's got tinnitus.

  • @hansrogernorden I understood it to be he has a bit of hearing loss currently, and now wears the special headphones with volume control on the inside and total blockage of the outside in order not to lose whatever normal hearing he has left. Never knew of the T- thing... like Townsend.

  • once again, way too many notes on the solo. more isn't better, that's what these shredders will never understand

  • @cbarrett34 Thus proving that YOU are the one that doesn't understand.

  • @cbarrett34

    More is better? False.

    Less is better? False.

A guitarist that's been playing for over 30 years and has the music theory to prove it doesn't understand that YOU think there are too many notes in a solo? Stupid argument.

I assume you think playing slow means you have more soul too.

And I also assume you don't know what an opinion is.

I understand it's your opinion there are too many notes, but fucking seriously? Mr.Gilbert knows a shit load of stuff billions of people don't know.

  • @SolidGoldEliteODST

Don't get too upset . I've been hearing this stupidity since EVH came out. They used to say really moronic things like: “I could be that good too if I had his effects” or when Gary Moore did End of the World, “He’s playing through a computer.” Retarded right? They couldn’t wrap their brains around what was happening so they made disparaging excuses. Now, ever since the 80’s, it’s all about the quantity of notes.

  • @SolidGoldEliteODST

Also, In my opinion, if you’re not good enough to play what someone else does, you have no grounds to knock it, whether you “get it” or not and as an educated, practicing guitarist, if you don’t equally love Malmsteen as much as SRV, you should put the guitar down and pick up a shovel.

  • why does he wear the headphones?

  • @cbarrett34 as monitors

  • If Paul had of played the blues we probably never would of heard of him. A great teacher and a great guitarist glad he followed his own passion.

  • I think the solo was very melodic, and he kept up with the rhythm of the song without going complete overboard with it. Like some people said, this is just his take on the song... if you can do better, then you can bash Paul Gilbert.

  • the three guitarists of skynyrd still arent as badass as paul... \m/

  • His solo, although impressive, misses the point completely

  • Can't sing....and the tone is shitty. Paul is the man, though.

  • I want to make love to that guitar. That is sexay

  • I didn't know this song. I'm curious to hear the original.

Thanks to Paul for introducing me to Todd Rundgren too.

  • Great song, nice cover.

  • That's one busy progression to play sing at the same time -- Paul is a fantastic performer.

  • good choice paul they megga band

  • that was the.............2nd most coolest thing ever !

  • paul forgot the words in the beginning!!! hahah he's still badass tho

  • @winrar sounds like he was just lolling about something

  • solo was great, but i dont think it fits the song

  • man can he play a worse skynrd tune?....why dont he do "workin for MCA" or "saturday night special" sounds like he dosnt really know skynrd like the rest of us lolz...cause those are some rockin ass tunes...this is prob one of their worst tunes despite it being called "one of their best"

  • ok everybody has the right to have fun, Paul is surely a nice guy and he has a lot of talent but he's a terrible singer !!!

plus his solo on this one is very mechanical, no feeling at all, it sounds like he tells a poem without thinking what he says !! the problem is not the sound but what the music means and what you're feeling when you listen to it ... too much technical skills sometimes kill the feeling !!

sorry for my english as I'm french !!

  • The thumbnail for this video looks like a guy doing some girl doggy style from a sieways point of view........just an optical illusion i guess lmao

  • cool voice

  • this version is AWFUL !! bad singing, out of context guitar solo !!!

pls listen to the original version !!

  • This is a tribute to Skynyrd. Paul could play "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" and it would ROCK! He is the consummate guitar guru. Awesome!

  • @olliebros I grew up on the original, but this is Paul having fun. Sorry if you can't just enjoy someone else's take.

  • hmm. paul singing.

  • i had a private clinic with paul over the summer and he played all the same songs. i got to ask him questions too

  • He`s continously increasing his vocal skills, but I`ve heard some serious shit from him as well (as in negative shit)

  • There is a reason Skynyrd was so good. It's because they were one of a kind. Only they can reproduce their sound. This is just Paul's take on a song he likes. Skynyrd is Legendary and there is no comparison.Paul can't do what Skynyrd did and Skynyrd probably can not do what he does. It's always nice to see people appreciate other artist's music.

  • @safenders I'm a little offended for Paul there actually, I recon Skynyrd are the only ones who can produce their sound, but I'm sure it's not that difficult to reproduce any sound. I think to say Paul can't do what Skynyrd is an insult, especially when coupled with the remark that Skynyrd could 'probably' not do what he does.

  • @safenders skynyrd also had a 3 guitar attack, this is just one man doing it.

  • @safenders I'm sure there are major differences that set these two bands apart but I always thought Molly Hatchet sounded a lot like Lynyrd Skynyrd. I'm no expert though I like Skynyrd but I'm not nuts about them, and never cared much for Molly Hatchet.

  • @SomeDude0nline I grew up listening to them so might be my emotional connection to the band But I think Skynyrd is one of the best bands. If you have not listened to them much I would suggest you listen to some of there songs like Simple Man or some of the less popular songs which to me are the real heart of their music.

  • @safenders Oh no I do like Skynyrd a lot and know most of their songs, I'm just not crazy about them and never really cared for Molly Hatchet so I can't really say definitively that Molly Hatchet is comparable to Skynyrd but I saw that you said there's no comparison and what I've heard of Hatchet sounds a lot like Skynyrd to me therefore I see them as comparable.

  • @SomeDude0nline Oh okay. I only know one song of Hatchet's that I would say sounds like Skynyrd. I'm not much of a fan of them. But I see what you mean.

  • @safenders Skynyrd has way less chance of doing what paul does, than paul doing opposit

  • @Brentypooz I would say the opposite would be true. Skynyrd was one of the biggest acts of the 70s, they are still considered one of the best bands of all time, their song writing ability was far more developed, Paul is a good technical player but he will never do what Skynyrd has done.

  • @safenders Non-hate reactions get tumbs up !

  • wtf the solo was beautifull, theres WAY more faster and soulless solos out there cmon!

  • hahah look at the towel in the background at 2:00 its like its windy inside of there :P they play so loud XD

  • @orrekorre it must be pretty cranked for enough vibration to move that towel lol

  • @shanesreallycool hahah Nice Catch!!

  • Fantastic song, great cover. But, the solo is so generic, everyone is so focused on speed rather than feeling. Maybe its just me but i'm not feeling the solo there, needs more soul. BTW just so you know i love Gilbert.

  • @sd5775

    That's speed?

Nah man, that ain't Paul Gilbert speed, so basically, IT WAS A COOL SOLO

  • I was there! It was amazing!!!

  • @daryl152 No one likes a bragger... xD

  • @FightingFinke . LOL ah ya kno how it izzz yooo lolz!

  • cool

  • this is sick

  • Great Job

  • sweet
