Uhhhh... teachers and police officers are a drain on society? Does Ann Coulter produce more value to society than the Seal Team 6 squad that killed Bin Laden? Oh wait, they're government workers...
lol I love it when Ann Coulter and Maher get together it makes things that much more entertaining. I wouldn't be surprised if these two got married, opposites attract. Also let's be honest here, their banging.
Government and democratic government in particular create financial and political stability within a nation. Without government business could not operate freely or successfully. Police prevent and investigate crime against business. Armed Forces protect a nation. Copyright and patents stop the theft of intellectual property. I would like to see a nation built without laws or a government to enforce them just to see how long the business community would last.
@jcurphy1976 ur addressing a completely different argument. that's not what they're saying. they're saying that government directly does not create jobs and wealth.
The policemen, firefighters, teachers, road construction workers etc, etc, etc... they are a complete drain on society, in so far as they create the environment necessary for a capitalist society to exist?... Kudos to Elizabeth Warren for speaking so plainly that no millionaire came about their money in Hobbes' Leviathan's State of Nature...
Government doesn't create jobs. That's a fact. Although I disagree that government workers are a "drain on society", it's true that government doesn't create jobs for the majority of the American economy.
@Dtwaine If government didn't exist, there would be NO jobs. So yes, government does in fact create the very foundation and framework that all job creation relies on: political stability, infrastructure, education...
She makes my skin crawl. My mother's a DRAIN on society?
She gave her LIFE for this country in the Army for 15 years and she works for the government on the VA side -- not medically, but she's a patient advocate which means she helps other veterans get enrolled in programs to receive all their benefits their entitled. She's going on 8 years doing this & because she works for the government she's a DRAIN on society? For helping those who protect our country?

If what that british lady saying is right (govt jobs not revenue producers), then we shouldn't have teachers and firemen. They are a drain on society (Coulter). Both of them need to have their heads examined.
however idiotic she is, a government job does not produce any revenue for society, it only takes from society. There's no 2 ways to look at it. And, working a damn highway for 6 months is not a job. It won't put your kids through college, pay your mortgage and help you save for retirement.
The military is a HUGE drain on society. There's not been a war to protect the US in nearly 2 centuries. Anyone who tells you differently is either a globalist or just dumb, drinking the kool aid.
@shakaama so i guess we should just get rid of those damn teachers, police officers, firefighters, and construction workers that are soooo draining our society. yeah buddy, keep living in lala land with your personal bitch coulter while the rest of us live in the real world.
@MsDDiddy you're an idiot, and you have no point. if you're going to make stupid comments go somwhere where there's not high brow political debate, and do us all a favor and stick with barney or something like that. Or maybe you just don't understand when someone says public sector jobs are a drain on the society. Or worse, you're a democrat / socialist that believes that the government should take care of every aspect of life and taxes be damned.
@shakaama uh you never said public sector jobs, you said government jobs. perhaps you should go back and read your own comment. and i don't think the gov't should take care of EVERYTHING but there are gov't workers who although don't produce revenue for our society, are needed to make our society better. are they draining society financially? yes. do they make up for it by the work that they do? yes. you can insult me all you want but if you wont explain yourself, you deserve to be harassed.
@MsDDiddy srsly you're too silly for words. public / governtment sector jobs are one and the same.
you're dumb because police, firemen, teaching were ALL at one time privately run companies. Just because you're 16 and don't know the history of this country doesn't mean everything was the way it is now. Have you any clue the amount of money that is siphoned off into pockets of people, simply by turning something private, into public? No, because you don't read history or know anything.
@shakaama key word being "were" dumbass. they "were" privately run companies. oh and by the way, you still didnt answer any of my questions or prove your point so you are an epic FAILURE!! thats what happens when you drop out of school. you start listening to shit coming out of Ann Cunter's mouth. lol you two were made for each other.
If we privatized education, I can envision that only the wealthy can afford education. Privatization means income for the corporation. Here in Chicago the parking meters were sold by the city government to a private firm. Within one year, the normal 25 cents for 15 minutes rate shot up to 75 cents. Now, they want more. That is privatization for you. Certain things are better left for the govt to run.
@whyicare privatizing parking meteres. The market will only be charged, what the market will bear. Someone is already tracking this and making their move to build a parking garage that's: covered, lights, security and charge less than the meter. I guarantee you this. Get back to me on this, in a year.
unless everyone is an idiot and pays the 75c rate, they'll be out of business within a year. but, if 50% of the normal market pays the 75c, they'll still be making profit .
If you cannot win an agruement go with name calling. That's it. Just call her a Communist, a socialist, unpatriotic, anti-Christ, anything you want because she made a point.
What is WWII all about. Didn't the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor. Maybe what you need to say is that our miltary is getting too large. Do we still need miltary bases in Europe. Isn't the cold war over now. Do you know that our miltary overseas also owns golf courses for the servicemen to do R&R. We still need an army but at what size. We need to reduce defense spending. Do we need to build a nuclear submarine to protect us from a terrorist attack.
@whyicare actually we don't need a military at all. we have the technology to blast any country off the face of the eart, without even using nukes.
Now, why, you might ask, do we have hundreds of thousands of soldiers?
Come on, that's easy, ... money. From 1941 to 1946 (WWII), debt grew by 226.45 Billion (42.97B to 269.42B) You think that's a coincidence? Nope. We got into the war for money, and have been since 1911. go get a poli sci degree.

Public workers do pay taxes... So tell me again how they are not revenue producers in a way?
The idea of government jobs is that they provide services that profit driven markets cannot. Yes their income comes from the total taxes, but if public sector does not exist, we would have long collapsed on Capitalism.
People need to stop being purists and start being realistic. We need both sectors to survive in a world economy, anyone who says other wise have the IQ of a 6 year old.
@nwoalexjones Yep, you got that right. She's a talking-head-for-hire, she'll say the most stupid things as long as her sponsors keep paying her. The problem is, it works: there are people out there who believe what people like Ann Coulter say.
Although companies like KBR, Human genome and other engineering, construction, aerospace, etc. are publicly traded, for-profit entities, since most of their sales are to the government, their employees are in some sense government workers.
Since they don't produce consumer products like cereal, gum or sneakers, are these companies just useless leaches on the public trough?
On the contrary, they produce the things that no consumer could ever buy, but are crucial to our civilization...

@amitp2 Yeah, lets get rid of all those jobs, only a peabrain right winger stuffed full of talk radio rubbish can find her enlightening. Like that preppy bitch has a real job
I have a point of view and I have a right to hold that point of view as long as I am not harming anyone else. Having lived in several countries, I believe in the free market economics and less government. And mr. dothd991, you have no right to call me names for holding that point of view. Aren't you supposed to be "liberal" and understanding of the other side?
@amitp2 Typical strawman arguments. I have read what you wrote, & made no attempt to silence you, so how am I not being tolerant? A lot of government jobs are a waste, but most of them are actually important and they do serve a purpose. Like isn't it nice most communities have a good clean water & sewage systems? Only someone so devoid of any values but crass money ones can say something as silly as Coulter, I despise it when people have to divide everything into lib or con, that is childish
Well, first of all, you didn't attempt to silence me!!! Can you really? Youtube is open for everyone...A product of free market.
All possible services (except for law & defense) can be provided efficiently, accurately & economically using a free market. I am saying this out of my concern for the society. All socialist/communist societies turn out to be dysfunctional in end.
If you want to know more about govt regulation, watch v=FtBskFDiOC4
@amitp2 So let's get rid of all regulations? Good, I'll open up an old fashioned chemical cracking plant upwind from you. We all need some sort of regulations, like building, health, safety, business codes. And yes, they can be burdensome and counterproductive at time.
Regulations are required. Free market (not current crony capitalism) imposes them much more effectively than the government. These regulations are not perfect however neither is government. And they are almost always counterproductive.
I humbly suggest you to watch youtube videos of Milton Friedman and Thomas Sowell etc. They give great examples.
@danzigjr market failure is an oxymoron. free markets do not fail in anything, it is either a government interference that fails or the assumption that gov would perform the task better that implies a failure. you are ignorant and a student of propaganda to even regurgitate the word "market failure".
@DawnOfTheDead991 yes of course it was, the federal reserve which is a private institution that gets government protection to counterfeit and steal increased the money supply in the late 20's which allowed for an artificial credit market which was largely used for margin leveraged stock buying, and in turn artificial investments by public companies. Then after the inevitable crash the gov interfered in the name of helping the economy and made it worse. Just like the housing bubble and so on
@slickbtk "to counterfeit and steal" really? Markets have been crashing since the dawn of markets so your thesis about blaming the government is just a load of crap. No matter what I say, you will say the government did this so it is all their fault. The markets also crashed in the 19th Century too, when the government had nothing to do that too.
@DawnOfTheDead991 show me a systemic economic crash in the 19th century that was not caused by government, all of them were caused by governments giving certain banks the authority to run a ponzi scheme. there were 2 other central banks in american history not to mention state government banking charters that created artificial money supplies. just like your great depression comment you just blanketly make a comment that you heard before but have no idea what you are talking about.
@DawnOfTheDead991 "to counterfeit and steal", are you implying that the federal reserve doesnt by definition counterfeit and steal? wow you are ignorant. do you know anything about anything? or do you just regergitate what you hear sean hannity and keith olbermann say and think that you have a handle on things?
@DawnOfTheDead991 if you think that the great depression was a market failure then that just shows another government failure.....the education system. your level of ignorance is scary. If it wasnt for your simple minded type america would be a much better country. Have fun with your democrat/republican fake political box that you live in. left and right mean nothing, its propaganda. If you think that bush, obama, romney and clinton are not all exactly the same then you might be retarded
@slickbtk So because I don't believe in your nonsense, it means my education is no good? Thanks, you just won the argument, I am too ignorant to agree with you since i don't have all the right stuff in my head.
@DawnOfTheDead991 yes, atleast in these subjects. If I tell you that 2 plus 2 equals 5, and then stick to it and explain why thats the case wouldnt you rightfully surmise that I did not get a good math education? thats why when you imply that the free market doesnt work and government markets do I know that you have a poor understanding of the subjects of economics, government, history, and on a personal note you are illogical
@DawnOfTheDead991 " dont believe in your non sense" hahaha, ive listed facts and history not some kind of religion lol, you dont believe in it or not believe in it, you know it or are ignorant to it.

Ms. Coulter has obviously never heard of a market failure.

@danzigjr market failure is an oxymoron. free markets do not fail in anything, it is either a government interference that fails or the assumption that gov would perform the task better that implies a failure. you are ignorant and a student of propaganda to even regurgitate the word "market failure".

@slickbtk You mean the Great Depression was all the government's fault? Another right wing moron pwned.
DawnOfTheDead991 7 months ago
@DawnOfTheDead991 yes of course it was, the federal reserve which is a private institution that gets government protection to counterfeit and steal increased the money supply in the late 20's which allowed for an artificial credit market which was largely used for margin leveraged stock buying, and in turn artificial investments by public companies. Then after the inevitable crash the gov interfered in the name of helping the economy and made it worse. Just like the housing bubble and so on
slickbtk 7 months ago
@slickbtk "to counterfeit and steal" really? Markets have been crashing since the dawn of markets so your thesis about blaming the government is just a load of crap. No matter what I say, you will say the government did this so it is all their fault. The markets also crashed in the 19th Century too, when the government had nothing to do that too.
DawnOfTheDead991 7 months ago

If you think that bush, obama, romney and clinton are not all exactly the same then you might be retarded
slickbtk 7 months ago
@slickbtk So because I don't believe in your nonsense, it means my education is no good? Thanks, you just won the argument, I am too ignorant to agree with you since i don't have all the right stuff in my head.
DawnOfTheDead991 7 months ago
@DawnOfTheDead991 yes, atleast in these subjects. If I tell you that 2 plus 2 equals 5, and then stick to it and explain why thats the case wouldnt you rightfully surmise that I did not get a good math education? thats why when you imply that the free market doesnt work and government markets do I know that you have a poor understanding of the subjects of economics, government, history, and on a personal note you are illogical
slickbtk 7 months ago
@DawnOfTheDead991 " dont believe in your non sense" hahaha, ive listed facts and history not some kind of religion lol, you dont believe in it or not believe in it, you know it or are ignorant to it.

So by that logic, what, are police officers worse than mercenaries?
