ofcourse GPS is working in thailand, i kno bcuz im thai, and most of the ppl i kno hav garmins in their cars. dunt b stupid people. even a N 95's gps is working fine in BKK. oi เบื่อพวกฟรั่งโง่
I have the same GPS...Garmin. Does GPS work in Asia? I know GPS is 'Global Positioning Satelitle' but I thought it was only for the US and Europe, for the public sector that is.
OK, I was a little mean, but you are not being fair either. You did NOT just ask a question. In fact the one question you DID ask was rhetorical. You did not expect a response.
Instead you used a faulty premise to try and prove your argument "thus without local maps ...."
Had you asked "Does GPS work in Asia?" then I would have been a dick to burn you, but you did a lot more than ask a simple question. You're like baseball batter trying to fake a foul but the ball totally missed you.
Yes your comments reached me, but it turns out they were looking for the wrong person, so I redirected them back to you. ;-)
Just because I put a question mark at the end of a sentence doesn't necessarily mean it's a real question? Admit it, that question mark was just an insurance policy in case you were wrong, but you were pretty sure of yourself.
It works everywhere in the world (Global). It is freely available to anyone with a GPS receiver. There are many different providers of maps, including Garmin, and google maps, for Asia.
I was trying to be nice, but you just don't take a hint do you?
GPS has three parts: satellites, control and monitoring stations, and GPS receivers.
Maps are not required. If you don't believe me, give me your coordinates and we'll plug them into a GBU-31 JDAM. I promise it will find your dumb ass - even in Asia you ignorant pissant.
You are living proof that a little bit of knowledge can be very dangerous. If you shut up and listened more often, you might actually know something by now.
The danger, of course, lies in the fact that - because of your supreme confidence in your own fallacious reasoning, others might actually start to believe what you are saying.
When people act upon misinformation, unintended consequences occur.
Just because you've been ignorant or misinformed for a long time (close to 8 years), does not make you any less ignorant or misinformed.
A GPS 'expert' who doesn't know if it works in Asia, or even what the letters GPS stand for? Surrrrrrrrrre.
BTW, we are not talking about JDAM's and missiles here. We are talking about consumer level GPS used to navigate the streets.....there's a huge difference.
For consumer level GPS, maps are definitely needed.
Now you're doing backflips. You never mentioned 'consumer level' (whatever that means) in your previous misstatements.
You are absolutely wrong. GPS is supposed to do exactly what it says - give you your position on the globe, in the form of coordinates.
Of course, with software it can be combined with some other very useful functions, such as maps and street directions, but really, what you want to do with the information that the system is giving you, remains your own concern.
Thats because the Infiniti G35 in Japan is reffered to as the Nissan Skyline GT350 and the Lexus IS300 is the Toyota Altezza. Both of those are only sold in Japan.
LOL taxi chase was hilarious, Next time when making a video with music If you want to hear the engine sound turn down the music vol. Do a little editing. But other then that video was cool with the music,
If you watch the video, I do turn down the music when the best sound was available. Unfortunately, it was just a consumer digi camcorder I was using which was not the greatest at picking up sound. There was a lot of wind noise and you probably would not have liked to hear the music the taxi driver was listening to.
wow bangkok looks so clean and americanized highways. and i didnt see many motos liek i expected in SE Asia. Ive been to cmabodia and it sad to see that my homeland it not developed like bangkok.
the reason, why its so expensive, is tht their currency is inflated. thai baht is very weak against the stronger euro, same way in myanmar kyat (where im from). an s-class would be 300K-600K+ USD.
Actually, it's not the currency inflation, it's the duties. For instance, a Toyota Fortuner which is a really nice SUV with 3 rows of seating is only about 25k. So cars are expensive, some cheap...
Thai Bhat... lol... what a funny currency, almost as funny as the Zimbabwean Dollar or even the Vietnamese... DONG!!!!! THAI BAHT THAI BAHT THAI BAHT THAI BAHT THAI BAHT THAI BAHT THAI BAHT THAI BAHT THAI BAHT THAI BAHT THAI BAHT THAI BAHT THAI BAHT THAI BAHT
Yes, it costs more than one new in the US. To give you an idea of how much cars there cost, a Porsche Cayman will run you over $200k USD. F430s are well over $1 million.
Couldn't you borrow a mate's car? Hehe, the taxi effect is just a little weird, that's all. Did you jump in a taxi and say 'follow that noisy car?'

YEs the car in Thai cost either double or triple the price compare to Europe,USA and Ocenia.
eg. Lamboghini, Ferrari would cost around $800,000 or $1,000,000 VS approx $200,000-300,000 in Europe and the State

lol ? your joking right? GPS'es work in asia obviously
ngjunho 3 years ago
well for a gps system to work you need the satelitte and the local maping data installed on your gps system.
does garmin even make maps for asia? probably for a few countries but i doubt for mainland china (not taiwan) and most of SE Asia.
thus without local maps, gps wouldnt even work like its supposed to.

I don't think you know what a rhetorical question is. I don't live in fucking Bangkok (and Asia for that matter) so how would I know?
The two questions I asked where:
1st, "Does GPS work in Asia?" and 2nd, "Does Garmin even make maps for Asia?" neither of which is a rhetorical question.
Of course I expected a response (because I don't live in Asia).
Someone answered my first question but with too much attitude....but they answered it so whatever. But no one answered my 2nd question.
xuimod 2 years ago
Also what's this about a Faulty premise? When I said is a fact.
For GPS to work a person need 2 things: #1, a satellite signal and #2, local maps located on receiver.
So how is the statement 'thus without local maps' a faulty premise? Its a fact, that's how GPS works (at least Garmin GPS).
xuimod 2 years ago
btw, my comments about not being a dick (when someone asks a question) was directed towards Traffordsgoogle.

There's a signal everywhere but you need local maps. If you have GPS unit with North American maps its not going to work in Bangkok.
Like I said for GPS to work you need two things: #1, a signal and #2, local maps on your unit.
xuimod 2 years ago
So you're wrong.
It doesn't work everywhere. It only "works everywhere" if you have to proper hardware and software (including local maps).
So my question was in regards to local maps (software).
Man, you are all over the place. "Faulty premise" now ignoring the need for local software/local maps to make GPS work.
Your ego seems to be bigger than your level of intelligence because your thought patterns are all over the place. So disorganized.

For the Garmin GPS in this video maps are necessary.
Maps are always necessary. The maps may be permanently on the GPS unit's memory (so you don't have to download them) but maps are still needed.
Oh really and in case I am slightly wrong about GPS (maybe) how is that 'dangerous'? stop exaggerating.
OMG, I may be wrong about GPS..... that is oh so dangerous.
"Faulty premise", now I'm "dangerous".
BTW, I have a ton of experience with GPS (close to 8 yrs) so I know what I'm talking about.
