Just watched this and the "Walking on the Moon" lesson. I love the fact that I'm watching a real person just working things out, right there in front of me. Most videos have someone "performing" at me. Your videos are a great demonstration of "the evolution of a drummer" where we can all learn along with you (Ok, learn along behind you trying to keep up!) Thanks.
Haha...nope, not just you that likes this stuff! ;) I remember an old issue of Modern Drummer (circa '88) when Gregg Bissonette used this strategy (with 5s) to create a 5:2 rhythm on one of the tunes he did with Brandon Fields. Great exercise to work on and even more fun to apply to the set, like when you start accenting every other note - put those accents on the ride (or hat, cowbell), but keep the 2/4 going w/kick and snare. I'm not there yet! ;) As always, thnx for making such great vids!

Cool lesson, I do stuff like that all the time :) Also really cool to just play different groupings with different stickings and accents.
... and just as I typed that you mentioned different stickings ;/
Cool stuff Joe :D

What a cool lesson, reminds me a lot of the sort of stuff that Pete Lockett covers in his book on Indian Rhythms for drumset players...
