I've been hearing for the longest time that Bell is going to be an OLB, but I'm not so sure about that. We already have plenty of depth on both the strongside (Stevie Brown, Marell Evans, Kenny Demens), and the weakside (Jonas Moutan, Brandon Herron, Brandin Hawthorne). Plus Mike Jones might play either OLB position. But we are thin at strong safety. Brandon Smith is only a redshirt freshman, and Thomas Gordon is apparently too raw to play early. Bell might yet see PT at SS next season.
POOLE1DAN you're wrong buddy... speed is taken over size ANY day in college football. just like Footpedal or wahtever said, the line is the only place where speed doesn't matter.
you look at argueably the 2 most dominant programs in the country today, USC and Florida, they recruit for speed, size is a definiitely plus, but speed comes first
You're right Hockeydude, SPEED beats POWER. And I tried over and over to explain this to Dork1Dan, but he's entirely too ignorant to figure that fact out, try not to waste your time with fair-weather, "firedickrod" fans.
"speed is taken over size ANY day in college football"
in theory this may be true. in actuality, all the head coaches save Rodriguez are recruiting size over speed. Size is more important then spped, otherwise everybody would be recruiting the tiny speedy guys like Martavious odoms as opposed to rodirguez and his supporters being alone in his "speed is everything" boat
You are talking out of your ass # one every guy that comes in a one position does not mean he'll play that at the college level and michigan is not recruiting speed only they have a good mix of size and speed Michigan DT average 6'2 305 DE 6'3 260 S 6'1 200 CB 5'10 185 LB 6'2 220 OL 6'4 285 TE 6'4 240 WR 6'1 190 RB 5'11 205 QB 6'1 190 P 6'4 220 THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SIZE OF MICHIGAN PLAYERS
" THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SIZE OF MICHIGAN PLAYERS "
oh yea, there's nothnig wrong with the CURRENT crop of Michigan players. Afterall, most of the players on the team are Lloyd carrs kids. But once dickrod gets through with it, half our team will be composed of track stars. Ohio State, penn State, Iowa, etc will eat us alive when that happens. Like i said: Michigan will be a middlnig 7 or 8 win team should we keep dickrod.
Look at the Guy RR is after for next year DE like Gholston 6'7 WR Miller is 6'2 Jackson 6'3 QB Gardner is 6'4 LB Jeff Luc BEAST S Mavin Robinson 6'1 all RR needs is time you dont fire a football coach after one year this aint hockey you dont build your program in a year. RR is not a speed is everything recruiter
"Look at the Guy RR is after for next year DE like Gholston 6'7 WR Miller is 6'2 Jackson 6'3 QB Gardner is 6'4 LB Jeff Luc BEAST S Mavin Robinson 6'1 "
again, he may not be exclusively recruiting speed, but he;s still recruiting way to many tiny guys. I like that he's recruitng bigger guys like Gholston, R. Miller, M. Robinson, etc. Thats good. But you want your team to be entirely compsoed of those players ala USC, Florida, Ohio State, and Oklahoma.
Dude your a fn idiot. You see what Michigan is trying to do? What personel did we have last year that could do it? Give it some time. We had a very young team with no qb and managed to be in every game we played.
"What personel did we have last year that could do it?"
are you asking what personell we had that could win football games? If so, i'll tell you: 7/11 starters returning from a 24th ranked defense (23rd in scoring, 8th in pass defense); 6 talented, experienced skill position players (Brown, Minor, Grady, Butler, Mathews, hemingway); and everybody back on special teams. half the team was composed of 4 and 5 star players. and the schedule wasn't that bad
I know that. I know damn well you can't run the spread option offense with prostyle players. thats not the point. the point is dickrod is stupid for trying to force the spread option down Michigans throats. You do not run a system that doesn't fit your personell........ever
"RR had all three star and murdered oklahoma and georgia"
and he took a team with 41 four and five star prospects and led it to a 3-9 record. Granted, the defense was a huge part in the 3-9 record, and that falls on Shafer, who is mercifully gone. But dickrod is mostly responsible for the offensive collapse by virtue of his failure to run the right offense and use the right players. I hope he makes Michigan a great team, but I don't think its going to happen
buddy they didnt fit his scheme...you cant have a spread qb running a 4.9 40 time...or defence that cant tackle hence you kinda blame carr which he never had a good tackling team..give the man some time btw and if you think ur so perfect get off youtube and stop talking shit about people you wish you have accomplished half of what they did.
you're mostly right about that, and ergo, a smart head coach needs to adjust his offense to fit his personell. Tressell did this with Ohio State in 2005 and 2006. He had spread players, so he ran a spread offense. Now I'm not saying richrod should have run a prostyle offense, but he could ahve easily run a spread offense like the Capital one bowl offense which would have fit his personell. you know what I'm saying?
i see somewhat.but you got to remember manningham and arrington played in the capital one bowl.they went into the nfl the next year which i personally think was a mistake especially in arringtons case and was another reason for the 3-9 season.i felt the same frustration you did last season, but it will get better.MUCH better.come 2010,you will know why i'm so optimistic.and if i'm wrong then by the end of 2010 we'll fire him cuz of lack of wins/patience.then we'll hire a coach similar 2 him &win.
"and if you think ur so perfect get off youtube and stop talking shit"
right, yeah. How DARE I criticize a head coach when he makes stupid decisions! How DARE I criticize Marty Mornhwig when he takes the wind instead of the ball! How dare i!
Dude, coaches are not beyond criticism. get over yourself
- top to receivers a weak quitter QB a new O-line - the all time leading rusher at rb in his first year and you were on the fire RR bandwagon after game #1 PS your pick for the #1 slot receiver and before that you 3 contributor at QB Justin feagins just got kicked off the team.
Poole1Dan if he could guide WVU to win against Georgia Bulldogs in a Sugar Bowl in Atlanta, Ga beat the ever loving shit out of them 28-0 first quarter then beat the hell out of Oklahomo; WVU won 4 bowl games in a row with RR's scheme and won the big east several times. It's all common sense that type of offense gets the job DONE period. Florida runs also look at them. Kicking ASS Mich just needs sum more 5 stare recruits!!! now they'll come by the truck loads. Look at the ND game.
the ND game was indeed a great game. and I hope Michigan keeps on improving. I admit richrod has done well thus far this season. hopefully he keeps it up.
wow bro so im reading this and now you bash rich rod lol wowo you are something else u know that lol so you bash bash bash and bash the guy and once he shows something a little good u jump on the band waggon huh just like u willl do next year hahah what a joke dude
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
"all RR needs is time"
he doesn't deserve time. we went 3-9 in year one udner dickrod. contrast this with Schembechler at Michigan in 69, Spurrier at Florida in 90, Stoops at Oklahoma in 99, Meyer at Utah in 03, Meyer at Florida in 05, and Johnson at GT in 08. You are wrong: coaches have immediate success all the time in college football. nothing less should be expected from dickrod and anyone else who coaches at the University of Michigan.
Thoes guys are not the norm and they all had what there first year STRONG QB play.... i dont think Bo was trowing much in 69 but the rest of the guys did
You're right. Those guys are not the norm. But then again, we are Michigan. We didn't become the NO.1 college football program of all time by accident. dickrod must be held to the standards of those coaches. and as fasr as the strong QB play goes, it was Stoops, Spurrier, etc who developed them. dickrod did a really bad job developing Threet. case closed.
"the line is the only place where speed doesn't matter."
I didn't say speed doesn't matter. I'm just saying size matters more in the gridiorn then speed
"you look at argueably the 2 most dominant programs in the country today, USC and Florida"
wrong. both thsoe teams have really good team speed, yes. But they are gonig after players with good size and athleticism first like Reggie Bush, Mike William,s Lendale White, and dewayne Jarret (in the case of USC).
USC and Florisa are both proof that you need tp recruit players with good size if you want to be a powerhouse. Same goes for Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas, Georgia, and Alabama. Not a single team in the hisotry of college football ahs won with speed alone. speed is a secondary trait in football. Obviously you can't be slow, but if you have at elast above-average team speed, your good to go. Of the last 11 NC's, only Florida in 06 and 08 had great team speed. but all thsoe teams had great size
Guys that can play can play they come in all shapes and sizes but Michigan is not just recruiting small and the guys that are not strong enough or big enough to be successful will get redshirted 6'0 154 now hes 6'0174 guys grow into their bodies remember these are 17 year old kids and guys like terrance robinson Martavious Odoms Jeremy Gallon all fit a part of the system you need to see the big picture these guys fit and will be successful in the RR system
"but Michigan is not just recruiting small and the guys that are not strong enough or big enough to be successful"
dickrod may not be exclusively recruiting little guys, but he's still recruiting way to many little guys for the team to have future success. depending on Terrance robinson or Martavious odoms to be your go to reciever is a strategy bound to fail. Look at Odoms last season: he was underwhelming at the very best.
"guys grow into their bodies remember these are 17 year old kids"
yeah, they grow, but they don't get significantly bigger. Breaston was 175 when he arrived and 180 when he graduated. Odoms was 168 when he arrived and is still 168. sorry pal, but receivers (and tailbacks) don't grow a whole lot when they get to college. they definitely don't grow enough to go from tiny to an acceptable size. Gallon, Robinson, and Odoms are too damn small to be playmakers. its that simple.
If we are going to talk running backs, I know muself that Carlos Brown and Brandon Minor carried that offense last year, it was too bad they were hurt for half the season. If they weren't there, I'm not sure if we woulda won 3 games, cause threet and sheridan sucked dick. It was a 2-man offense between Brown and Minor, but everything should change this year now that threet is gone and a true quarterback is in. The real RR has now begun.
I looked them up 4 up in the last 5 games he played in 2008. Minor averaged 90 yards per game...5 yards per carry and totaled 8 TDS on a shitty offense!
so thats 18 carries 90 yds and 1.6 TDS per game with no consistent blocking or help whatsoever. What a clown!
Yeah as you can tell I'm not a big Stevie B fan! He just makes me think back to the days of terrible DB play...I put him on the same list as Brandon Williams, Todd Howard, James Whitley and Markus Curry! They all got worked on a constant basis by the WR's they played against...Brandon Graham will be the best DL in the Big 10 next yr..prbly have the same type of SR yr Woodley did in 06..he will be double teamed a lot but that should open up Van Bergen and Martin on the other side...
I'm just tired of watching third and fourth year UofM DB's play worse than their protege's/understudy's..i.e. (Brown vs every spread offense last year! and Morgan Trent at times)
I do stand corrected on the Turner comment...he will play corner as you said in 3 WR sets...if you have watched him before he excels at tight bump and run and press coverage but I noticed he has tendency to get lost or burned when he plays off a WR...I think he will learn the FS position much like Marlin Jackson did
I'm no Stevie Brown apologist. I just don't think he's totally worthless. Hopefully he has a strong senior season in 2009. Michigan's secondary needs him to be productive, especially consdierng he's one of only two seniors who are projected to start on defense next season (Brandon Graham being the other senior)
As for Turner, it'll be interesting tos ee what happens as his career goes on. He'll be the nickelback in 2009, but he might play free safety in the future like M. Jackson did
i have never seen a player deserve less time than Brown. he constantly gets burnt deep, and tries to make big tackles, often times missing the ballcarrier altogether, he is your classic big athletic guy who is absolutely terrible
Yeah Justin Turner should have an immediate impact in the Defensive backfield..a lot of parrels between him and Woodson..he is that kind of athlete maybe a little less polished....I like Forcier has the ability to create but he has happy feet in all his videos I have seen...Threet will be the starter early and slowly RR will mix in Forcier and Feagin as a change of pace and added dynamic...Sheridian should only see the field to hold on xtra points...that's it...unless its vs Minnesota
Poole1Dan- I have been tracking your starting projections for 09' ....
Do you really think Stevie Brown will be starting at Safety after he gives up the first 14 points of the 2009 season after getting burned on a double move by a Western Michigan WR??? Honestly they should just throw Williiams, Brandon Smith and Justin Turner into the fire now!!!!! Even their inexperienced mistakes trump Stevie B's overall lack of pass cover skills! NO COVER More 2!!!!
I totally agree, dude...stevie brown is not what I thought he would be before last season...might as well get those 3 in asap...especially excited about jt!!!! (of course, who isnt?)
I don't think Brown is gonig to start at free safety. He's horrible in pass defense. But he's got the size (6'0, 209) to playb strong safety, and he's also a halfway decent run stuffer (had 63 tackles a year ago). Plus Brown is a senior, a returnnig starter, and a former 4 star. Hwe brings experience and talent to the secondary. I think he could make a pretty efective strong safety. But he's not worth a damn at free safety
Also, Turner is gonig to be a cornerback, not a safety. He's projected to be our nickelback next season, while Warren and Cissoko are the starters. Michael Williams will likely start at free safety after playing well as Brown's substitute in 2008. And Brandon Smith has a chance to be a sub at either strong safety or free safety (given his size, I'd say strong safety, but he can play either position)
well thats great, cause if he can bulk up to 230 by his redshirt sophomore or junior year (which seems likely) then he can play OLB. And of course, hes already big enough to play SS if need be. I love Bell's versatility
i want him to start his first year because rich needs him and rich has none of his players really i know jt turner should play alot and prolly jt floyd will play to. we will see what happens
Hmm. Well, he has no shot at LB cause he's still undersized and cause Ezeh will be starting in the middle, Moutan will be starting on the weakside, and either Demens or Fitzgerald will be starting on the strong side. But i suppose he could start at strong safety next season if he competes hard enough. We;ll see what happens. I personally think Stevie Brown will move over from free safety top strong safety, while Michael Williams steps into the starting job at free safety
damn man how can u leave brandon graham out of that group he is their best defensive player graham, ezeh, mouton, and idk cuz we are going to a 3-4 now cuz of greg robinson. stevie brown is pretty shitty though he needs to leave like morgan trent ha
If we go to the 3-4, then yes, Brandon graham is in linebackwer mix and would start as a rush linebacker just like LaMarr Woodley did in 2004 when we used the 3-4 as our base defense. But dude, I think we are going 4-3 in 2009 under Robinson. Our d-line would have Van bergen and Graham at the ends, Mike Martin and William Campbell at the tackles, Moutan and Fitzgerald/Demens at outside linebacker, and Ezeh in the middle. Graham would make for a kuch better end then linebacker, anyways. Go blue!
i would like to try a 3-4 cuz the ravens and steelers use it and they have the best defenses in the nfl. but a 4-3 then mike martin, cambell, bergen, graham that would be good as dline man i just dont know about the safetys and corners. warren is good but will boubar cissoko be good?
I'm not opposed top the 3-4 at all. I think we will ahve the personal to run the 3-4 next season. We could start Martin and Van bergen at DE, Campbell at DT, B Graham and Moutan on the weakside, and Ezen & Fitsgerald at MLB. I just think the 4-3 defense would be better given our personall. But again, thats not to say the 3-4 is a bad defense
As for Cissoko, he had a pretty good freshmen season being ournickelback. i think he'll do fine as a starter opposite Warren. JMO
i think we will do the 4-3 once robinson realizes what he has to work with. martin is a beast at DT and cambell will play DT to so brandon graham and bergen at DE. but thats enough about the defense what about the offense. Will tate forcier look like his two older brother that flopped or will he actually do something?
IMO, Forcier will struggle and go through growing pains as a true freshman (should he end up starting), but i really think Forcier will be a star in the future.
do u honestly think that forcier will struggle worse than threet or m-fing sheridan? he'll start...and if not him, robinson...i hate the experience argument when they talk about threet and sheridan...sucking all season is not experience...i tell that to the spartys all the time....playing all season and chocking on dick whilst doing it does not mean you will be good the next season...lol..forcier will take the first snap in 2009....and as always, dan... GO BLUE!!!!! :)
"do u honestly think that forcier will struggle worse than threet"
I don't know. I just know that in all liklihood, Forcier will go through growing pains and not star immediately as a true freshmen. And by the way, although Sheridan sucked, Threet did not. he only sucked in two games (Miami and Michigan State). But he played well in 4 games (Notre Dame, Wisky, Illinois, and Purdue) and was average in all the other games. Threet deserves a chance to start in 2009.
if forcier is as good as i think he is threet and sheridan won't even get a whiff of the playing field with denard robinson also signing.if RR had any other options last yr. @ qb,do you think threet or sheridan would've even been considered for the starting gig?
"if RR had any other options last yr. @ qb,do you think threet or sheridan would've even been considered for the starting gig? "
I will never be able to understand why Sheridan was even given a shot muchless got all the playing time he got. He's a pocketpasser, and not only that, he's a talentless walkon. As for Threet, I think he's a suitable QB and will be a star as he gains experiecne, but obviouslt Rodriguez would rather go with a dual threat QB.
No, it's stupid for you to have delusional dreams for someone who can't compete at the college level. This has NOTHING to do with RR "not utilzing Feagin", much like you, HE SUCKS!I love listening to your Bullshit out here Nerd, did you even play football? Not jock-strap scrubber, did you play? Judging by your dopey looking picture, I bet you got your ass kicked daily. And when you talk, it sounds like your toungue is attached to the roof of your mouth, LAY OFF THE PEANUT BUTTER Daniel Dork!
Maybe it was because Feagin is not a throwing threat at all. His passing stats were pedestrian in the lowest level of Florida HS football. Much more potential in the slot. As awful as a passer as Threet was, Feagin throwing the ball would have been a complete catastrophe. Learn the facts.
"His passing stats were pedestrian in the lowest level of Florida HS football"
Feagin averaged 14 yards per compeltion, ahd a 60% completion percetnage, and threw 19 TD to only 3 picks. Those are fabulous stats. Not pedestrian stats. Feagin has got a good arm until he see otherwise (which we haven't, cause dickrod stupidly hasn't given him a chance).
and if you want to talk about Feagins compeition, then hiow about your gay lover Odoms? He played against shitty HS competition as well
He threw 151 passes, that isn't much. And you were talking about me being a "faggot" in a previous post. At least I don't use the word "fabulous" when talking about football, or anything for that matter. Odoms played on a higher level in Florida, and Pahokee played some out of state teams that were nationally ranked in the top 10. Nice try, that was cute.
its highschool. what would you expect? Forcier only threw 140 passes in his junior year. 151 is about average for a HS quarterback, maybe even a little above average
"Pahokee played some out of state teams that were nationally ranked in the top 10."
no they didn't. your making shit up. pahokee never played anybody of merit. they are just as low of a school as feagins school.
You criticizne feagin's comp. yet praise odoms. you are a hypocrite.
Nice try. Forcier threw 213 as a jr, 326 as a sr, and 221 as a soph. You lie. Pahokee played Olive Branch in MS. Look them up, top 10 or so natl ranking. They also played Byrnes in SC, top 10 or so natl ranking as well. Also played Glades Central in FL, a very good team as well. Nice try. You are ignorant to the FACTS, and refuse to acknowledge them when you are proven wrong. Stay in school, and don't procreate. It is FACT Pahokee played good teams. You will deny it though. 2+2=4, not 5.
"Forcier threw 213 as a jr, 326 as a sr, and 221 as a soph. You lie"
sorry. I had made a Forcier/Beaver/Feagin video, and in the process of thinknig fast, I mistook Forciers stats for Beavers stats. I stand corrected on Forcier's attempts. But the bottom line is that 151 passes is about average for a HS QB. The offense Forcier ran at Scirrps Ranch was heavily pass oriented.
"Pahokee played Olive Branch in MS. Look them up, top 10 or so natl ranking. They also played Byrnes in SC, top 10 or so natl ranking as well. Also played Glades Central in FL, a very good team as well."
more lies from a chronic liar. Pahokee never played Olive Branch or Byrnes (SC) when odoms was there. And glades central? They were good in the 1990's but have fallen sicne then.
Like i aid: Pahokee hasn't played shit, yet you praise odoms and bash Feagin. Hypocrite!
The argument was whether Pahokee played good teams, not whether Odoms did. Nice try kiddo. Do you even know what hypocrite means? Kind of like a fan who undeservingly bashes the coach of his "favorite" team? I do believe so. If Feagin is so much better than Odoms, then why did Odoms catch 49 and Feagin catch 0? I know your answer, no need to bother replying, it is because "dickrod" is a stupid coach. It's like a fallback thing. Say it when you have nothing else to say.
"The argument was whether Pahokee played good teams, not whether Odoms did."
If odoms wasn't on the team when Pahokee played good teams, then your argument means nothing. Pahokee played average/bad teams when Odoms was there. So for you to criticize Feagin for his compeition yet praise odoms and ignore his equally shitty comopetition is hypocritical.
There is no other way around it: Odoms played a hard schedule, Feagin played a very soft when. Beat a dead horse. I am right, you are wrong. Soak it in. It's ok. Stay in school. Don't procreate.
"There is no other way around it: Odoms played a hard schedule"
Odoms did not play a hard schedule. the competition that odoms was played was the exact same quality as that of Feagins. There is no way around that. yet, you praise Odoms and hate on Feagin, you are a bloody hypocrite.
"I am right, you are wrong"
I've got facts and reasonnig on my side. you don't.
of course I do. A hypocrite is somebody who says one thing and does the exact thnig he's preaching against. A hypocrite is also someone who holds double standards that contradict his arguments, as is the case with you.
"Kind of like a fan who undeservingly bashes the coach of his "favorite" team?"
yeah, i bash the coach. so what? the coach and the team are not intertwined. they are mutually exclusive. coaches come and go, but the team remains
It appears as if you got out your dictionary. Now do you know what it really means? Or are you just typing the definition with no clue as to how it is actually applied? Stay in school. AND please, please, please, do not procreate. The gene pool is bad off enough as it is.
"If Feagin is so much better than Odoms, then why did Odoms catch 49 and Feagin catch 0?"
Odoms was a starter and was the default go to guy thanks to dickrod. On the other hand, Feagin spent most of the season at QB and rode the pine. Its kind of hard to make plays if your dumbass head coach is not giving you a chance to prove yourself.
"Say it when you have nothing else to say"
I'm speaking the truth, and I'm dismantlnig your arguments by speaking the truth. thats the bottom line.
"Odoms was a starter and was the default go to guy thanks to dickrod. On the other hand, Feagin spent most of the season at QB and rode the pine. Its kind of hard to make plays if your dumbass head coach is not giving you a chance to prove yourself"
I am so sick of hearing you blame everything on RR. Maybe Odoms played over Feagin because he is BETTER. Has that ever crossed your malnourished mind? The bottom line is that I am light years smarter than you. That's the bottom line.
when Mornhiweg took the wind over the ball against Chicago, he thought that was the "better" decision. So therefore, Marty must be right...right? Afterall, hwo DARE we criticize the decision of a head coach?!
But i digress. Here's the bottom line: Odoms was literally the only true slot receiver abailable. T-Robinson busted up his knee, and Feagin was taking reps at QB. Odoms actually has competition this time around. he will lose his job
another thing: evne if I were to accept this lie you are perporting that odoms actually played good competition, I'm only bringing up odoms competition because I'm exposing your hypocrisy. Truthfully, i don't care about odoms competition. Both feagin and odoms are from Florida, and the worst competition in Florida is better then the ebst competition in most other states. So if you are gonig to criticize Feagin, find something esel to say.
OK, how about his lack of production? How about Odoms non-lack of production? How do you like that? How come Feagin has permanently been moved from QB, without even being given a chance to compete with Tate and Denard? Feagin is 4th Slot Receiver, next to Odoms, then TRob, then Gallon. Stay in school. Don't procreate.
Like i said: Its kind of hard to make plays if your dumbass head coach is not giving you a chance to prove yourself
"How about Odoms non-lack of production?"
49 catches for 443 yards when you are the go to receiver is awful. Peruiod. end of story. Odoms has proven he is a worthless piece of shit. Feagin has yet to be given a chance. Feagin is infinitely better then odoms
"Its kind of hard to make plays if your dumbass head coach is not giving you a chance to prove yourself"
Broken record. This is your default excuse. When you know you are wrong, just blame RR.
"49 catches for 443 yards when you are the go to receiver is awful"
Once again, then what does that make your BF Mathews? You are a HYPOCRITE. HYPOCRITE. Go ask your mother what that means. Stay in school, and don't procreate. PLEASE don't procreate.
its not an escuse. Its the truth. I will follow the truth wherever it may lead me (in this particular case, anyways).
"then what does that make your BF Mathews?"
was Mathews the go to receiver? Nope. was he given as many oppertunities as odoms? Nope. Another terrible comparison from a brain dead individual. And BTW, just cause I've busted you for being a hypocrite many times doesn't mean you can just pick at straws by callnig me one
"If Feagin is awesome, and Gallon is horrible due to size, then why would they be in a heated competition?"
Ideally Feagin would be declared the starter right now and Gallon would be riding the pine alnog with odoms, but because dickrod loves his little guys, they will be in a heated competition. This is unfortunate, but its the way it is
i like threet as a person, he gives his all and has extreme heart, he just has absolutely no talent at all. i have never seen a worse starting QB at UM since 97, and at UL since the early 90's
No way Bell stays at S. Saw him on video doing DB drills at some camp, and he struggled big time. He would be a slower and less quick than average S, or a faster and quicker than avg LB. But I'm sure you would rather have him at S, because he would be a huge S, who would constantly get burned due to lack of speed/quickness. Speed kills big time, ask Oklahoma. Get it through your head and deal with it.
Can you read? I said i'm happy with Bell at strong safety or OLB. Where I want him at is dependent on his own development and on the depth of the team (IE, do we need him more at OLB or SS?)
"who would constantly get burned due to lack of speed/quickness"
kind of like Cato June, Ernest Shazor and Jamar Adams, right? Another pathetic argument on your part
"kind of like Cato June, Ernest Shazor and Jamar Adams, right? Another pathetic argument on your part "
Don't really remember Shazor and June getting burned. Adams did though. He sucked. The thing is though, for big safeties, they had speed. I'm not sure where you are going with this one. I am not used to debating with people several levels lower than me.
"Don't really remember Shazor and June getting burned"
my point exactly. June and Shazor were all big, athletic safeties with average speed, and they rarely got burned. So why the hell would Bell be a bad strong safety? answer: he wouldn't. Bell would make for a good SS or a good OLB depending on where he ends up
And Jamar adams was named 2nd team All Big ten twice. he had 92 tackles in 2007. he didn't suck. Adams was a really good safety. Adams had average speed as well
"Adams and Shazor are much faster than Bell. Bar none"
no they didn't. Look at thir 40 times or just watch them: June and Shazor have the same speed as Bell does. The only difference between Bell and June/Shazor is that bell wasn't highly ranked coming out of HS like June/Shazor were. Bell might be a star, or he might be a benchwarmer. But the point here is that he can play both SS or OLB and be good. we'll see what happens
They have much more speed. You can say they don't all you want, but it doesn't take away from the fact that they do. You can argue that 2+2=5 until you are blue in the face, doesn't make it true though. He can't play S and be good. He is entirely too slow. We don't have to wait and see, because there is no chance it happens. Stay in school. Don't procreate.
"They have much more speed. You can say they don't all you want, but it doesn't take away from the fact that they do"
then how come they run the same 40 times? how come all the recruiting services say he is fast enough to play SS, just like June and Shazor were? The fact is, Bell ahs the same speed as Shazor and June. I ahve sources on this. you do not. I win. you lose
"He can't play S and be good. He is entirely too slow"
yes, he can play SS. ask anybody on rivlas or scout
Did you see the 40 times at the combine? Very few guys ran 4.4 or under. Get you head out of your ass and understand that HS 40 times are absurdly exagerrated.
"I ahve sources on this"
Do you expect me to take your word on this? Are you connected?
"yes, he can play SS. ask anybody on rivlas or scout "
I would, but I am not connected like you. Nice try kiddy.
what does that have to do with Bell having the same speed as Shazor and June? Nothing, thats what.
"Get you head out of your ass and understand that HS 40 times are absurdly exagerrated."
the fact remains that accoring to all the recruiting services, Bell has the same speed as Shazor and June and is fast enough to play SS and play it well
"Do you expect me to take your word on this?"
the sources are rivals and scout. nothing complicated
"'Jamar adams was named 2nd team All Big ten twice'
Woopy'"
That emans he was one of the 3 best safeties in the Big ten. and thats suppsoed to mean nothing? What a joke. besides, you praised odoms by saying "ohh!!! he will be 1st team all big ten in 2 years!"
That would be 4 best safeties. Since 2 go on each team. First team and second team are a large difference. One is good, the other is OK. "Bloody hypocrite?" I thought you were from Michigan. Anyway, you have called me a hypocrite so many times that that word means nothing to me. Especially since I have not been a "hypocrite" even once. Stay in school. Don't procreate.
"First team and second team are a large difference."
says who? You? Ann All Big ten player is an All Big Ten player. The first teamers are jjst better then the nd teamers. that doesn't mean the 2nd teamers are bad or medicore. Both 1st team and 2nt team players are good football players (sometimes great football players). look at brandon graham: he was 2nd team all Big ten in 2008, but he's not only good, he's GREAT.
You said Corey Wooten being 1st team all Big ten is nothing, and then you heap praise on odoms for him being a "future 1st team all Big ten player." you only like a 1st team all Big ten player when it fits your bullshit argument. you are a hypocrite
"I thought you were from Michigan"
i AM from Michigan. what does this have to do with me exposing your hypocrisy?
"Anyway, you have called me a hypocrite so many times that that word means nothing to me. Especially since I have not been a "hypocrite" even once"
a hypocrite enver sees his hypocrisy, and an idiot never sees his stupidity. Ergo, I don't care if me callnig you a hypocrite means nothing to you. Each time i catch you in the act of hypocrisy, i will expose it, and I don't care whether or not you see it.
speed is a secondary trait. If you ahve it, great. But you don't need great speed to be a great football player, and you sure as hell don't need great team speed to be a great team. And why do you keep on bringing up Oklahoma? They scored more points then anybody else in NCAA hisotry. They lost to Florida cause Florida has a better coach and better talent. speed wise, Florida's edge in speed over oklahoma is minimal at best
"Florida's edge in speed over oklahoma is minimal at best "
OK. Keep telling yourself that. Perhaps the biggest understatement in world history. Florida made Oklahoma look like they were moving in slow motion. Speed kills, ask any college football player, or pro football player, or any athlete in any sport. You have to be retarded to think size beats speed. How can you tackle what you cannot catch? Ask yourself that, and spin it. Nice try though. Made me laugh.
the only sports where speed kills is track and swimming. Other then that, speed is a secondary trait in every damn sport. Speed kills in basketball? Baseball? Volleyball? HA!!!!! what a joke!! And sicne we talknig about football, let me reitterate that of the 11 BCS national champions, only the Gators had great tram speeed.everybody else was either average or above average in team speed
"You have to be retarded to think size beats speed."
given the choice between a player like Jeremy Gallon who's only asset is speed and a player like Patrick Turner who's only asset is size, I'll take Turner. Tinty guys like Gallon and odoms who only ahve spped are NOTHING, they produce NOTHING. At elast a guy like Turner is a decent contributor
"Tinty guys like Gallon and odoms who only ahve spped are NOTHING"
There is no logic in that statement. So you are saying that if a guy is small, he cannot be good? Who led us in catches and reception yds last yr? kisses
The coach wouldn't do that, because you wouldn't be deserving of it. It's not like RR just picked some random dude on the team and decided to throw the ball his way most of the time. Don't you think RR probably thought highly enough of Odoms to do that? Stay in school. Don't procreate.
"The coach wouldn't do that, because you wouldn't be deserving of it."
you are missing my point, which is that odoms leading the team in catches means absoulte ynothing because dickrod insists on giving him the ball a billion times a game despite the fact odoms does NOTHING with it. Odoms is the antithesis of production
"Don't you think RR probably thought highly enough of Odoms to do that?"
dickrod has proven to be an awful coach. what he thinks of his eprsonell means nothing.....
....what dickrod did by feeding Odoms the rock a billion times a game is the virtual equivilant of picknig a random dude from a podunk highschool and throwing him the ball all the damn time.
All these skill position players with speed you are talknig about are 170 pounds. No 170lb RB/WR is going inbetween the tackles, its all outside - people like that don't last long
you force these speedy guys outside, and big athletic linebacker like James Laurinitis and Dan Conner will eat them alive
Why is a WR running in between the tackles? What 170 lb Rbs do we have other than Smith, who is thick? Those speedy guys cannot be caught in the open field, just ask Oklahoma's LBs and S. Once again, you cannot tackle what you cannot catch. Superior speed and quickness trumps size every time, 100%
I was talknig about tailbakcs like teric Jones and Vincent Smith. And with both tailbacks and WR's, if all they can do is go on the outside to make plays, then they will be rendered worthless. the defenses will shut them down by locking up the perimeter of the field. You can't make plays if you always have a defnede on you whereever you go. The defneders won't ahve to do any catching. they'll be right in these tiny guys faces.
No chance either one plays wide receiver. They might play slot receiver.
"the defenses will shut them down by locking up the perimeter of the field"
Could a D not do this to anyone? You make it sound so simple. A SR doesn't hang around the perimeter much anyway. The idea is to get them the ball in space in the middle of the field, where they cannot be caught. You are proving your lack of knowledge. I suggest you research or shut your hole. Stay in school. Don't procreate.
what does this have to do with anything I said? Jones and Smith will either be tailbacks or slot receivers. I enver said anythnig about them playing receiver. You are totally picking at straws now. How embarrasing!
"Could a D not do this to anyone?"
if the opposing offense has a threat down the middle of the field, then no they could not do this to anyone. But if your only threat is on the permiter, then a good oppsing defense will STIFLE you
"A SR doesn't hang around the perimeter much anyway"
yes, they do. Slot receivers in the spread option offense are perimiter players who get buble screens and run short ouside routes. didn't you watch odoms this apst season at Michigan? or West Virginia under dickrod?
"The idea is to get them the ball in space in the middle of the field"
are you fucknig crazy? Little guys CAN'T go across the middle! they'll get DESTROYED!!! Look at odoms: he makes a couple nice plays on post routes across the middle against illinois, and he gets CRUSHED on contact. He then misses the next game against toledo. After that, odoms was rarely sent across the middle. Tiny guys CAN'T go across the middle! They inevitably get injured! thast why they are relegate to the perimeter!
if they ar even lucky to make the catch, they get destroyed on contact! Thats why they are rarely sent across the middle! They are STRICTLY permiter players!. You need SIZE to go acorss the middle. Feagin, has decent size. Robinson, Odoms, Gallon, etc do not.striclty perimeter players make for decent contributors at best, but they RARELY become really good football players. yet, dickrod recruits these mother fuckers. fuck the tiny guys, and fuck dickrod
"What 170 lb Rbs do we have other than Smith, who is thick? "
i was using 170 is a general number. the botom line is that tiny TB's like Jones and Smith aren't gonig to be successful unless they are uber-talents like Fitzgerald Toussaint (see why i like Toussaint now?)
Jones did just as well as Toussaint, and played better comp. Mcguffie was an "uber-talent" and look where he ended up: Rice. Jones is just as "tiny" as Toussaint. The only difference is that FT is an "uber-talent." Well I say that Jones is too. There. They both can do well now. Since once they are anointed "uber-talents," they cannot fail. And only YOU can anoint them "uber-talents." Please anoint Gallon an "uber-talent," because I think he could be really good. Stay in school. Don't procreate
lie. Tousaaint is a highly regarded 4 star prospect. Jones is a low level 3 star. Toussaints HS stats resemble Joe mcKnight's. Jones HS stats are good, but don't hold a candle to Toussaint. Toussaint was a billion times better HS pl;ayer then Jones, and was a billion times more prodtuctive
"and played better comp'
Fitz played in youngstown, OH, whereas Jones played at Cas tech. Cass tech plays NOBODY. Fitz played better compt then jones
your claim here has no sources. Jones was a low level 3 star who had good stats but nothnig that suggests he is an uber-athelte. Tousssaint, on the other hand, is one of the ebst 4 star prospects in the nation, has HS stats that make Mcknight blush, and has an insanly sweet highlight video, whereas Jones highlight video is like "meh, thats nice."
"Please anoint Gallon an "uber-talent," because I think he could be really good"
based on his HS stats, guru rating, and highlight video, I don't think Gallon is an uber-athelte. He's pretty good, but he's nothnig special. Gallon will make for a good returner, but I don't expect he'll do much of anythnig as a slot receiver
"Those speedy guys cannot be caught in the open field"
there's not gonig to be an open field for them to work with. The defneses will just shut down the pemiter of the field, as they don't ahve to worry about these tiny bastards going over the middle.
"Those speedy guys cannot be caught in the open field"
Oklahomas defense had to respect the middle of the field, as Florida had good size with most of their skill position players on offense. Thats not gonig to be the case with Michigan
"there's not gonig to be an open field for them to work with. The defneses will just shut down the pemiter of the field, as they don't ahve to worry about these tiny bastards going over the middle"
You show your ignorance once again. That's precisely where you want your SRs to be. The opponents D can shut down the perimeter all they want (because it is that easy, right) because small slot guys don't go out there often. Learn some stuff before you respond. Stay in school. Don't procreate.
"Once again, you cannot tackle what you cannot catch"
Like I said, the defenses won't need to do any "catching." The litle guys won't ahve any room to operate
"Superior speed and quickness trumps size every time, 100% "
Nope. the last 11 national champions discredit this argument. Speed is a secondary trait. size is more important in football then speed. ask any compatent head coach. speed means nothing if you are a litle runt lie odoms.
They will have plenty of room to operate. Have you ever seen Harvin in the open field? That's the goal for SRs. I don't know what routes you guys run, but SRs don't go deep much, that's the WRs job. Hence "wide." The last 11 natl champs PROVE my argument. Any competent (learn how to spell) coach would prefer size over speed. That is a given. You are the only person on the planet that prefers size over speed on the football field. Size has gotten us nowhere. Stay in school. Don't procreate.
1. Percy harvin has enough size to be effective across the middle
2. Harvin was the NO.1 recruit in the entire nation, so his astounding athletic ability is gonig to allow him to be a gamebreaker whether he's gonig across the middle or on the perimeter. ergo, you can't compare 99% of slot receivers to percy Harvin. he's in a league of his own
that has nothing to do with them being on th outside or the inside of the field. Tiny receivers are outside players. thts the only place they can go. and all defenses have to do is stack up on the permiter and the tiny guys will be SHUT DOWN, as they will ahve NO ROOM to maneuver. We saw this with west Virginia against Pitt in 2007, among many other games
WTF? the last 11 NC's prove that you do NOT need great team speed to win the NC. the last 11 NC's prove that speed is a secondary trait. the last 11 NC's prove that size is more important then speed.
"You are the only person on the planet that prefers size over speed on the football field"
no i'm not. the only coach who's recruiting those tiny, speedy guys is dickrod. everyone else is looking at size. dickrod (and his supporters) are alone
Seriously, I am not just saying this to argue with you. Speed is a much more valued trait than size in football. I don't know where you have been in the last 15 yrs, but every coach prefers speed over size. All jokes aside, you are alone on this one. The only positions where size is important is on the lines. Speed is equally important in this case. Please renounce your fanhood of my team. You embarass us and make us look horrible. For UM, please find another team.
"Speed is a much more valued trait than size in football."
No its not. If you have a football team stacked with 210 pound TB's and 230 pound LB's (all of whom, are over 6'0 ft) gonig up against a tream composed of 170 pound, 5'9 guys with great speed, the former team kicks the later teams ass everytime. Size matters more then speed on the gridiron
DUhhhhhhh, hey everyone, I'm back, duhhhhhh poole1dan here, duhhhhhhhh, I like big athletic, duhhhh guys, duhhhhh, they get me uhhh...duhhhhhh, hot and duhhhhh bothered, duhhhhhhhh. I used to, duhhhhhh, be in the marching band, duhh, in highschool, duhh, so I duhhh, kn, kn, know alot about fa,fa,fa, duhhhh football........
Still at it out here pencil dick? Just do what footpedal said, RENOUNCE your fanhood, nobody agrees with your bullshit!
SPEED KILLS.everyone knows that. why do you think florida has won two af the last two cahmpionships?SPEED.Danny boy i love ya but i disagree.both florida teams that won those championships were smaller yet had more speed and athleticism and it showed on the scoreboard. but i think (and i know you're a skeptic cuz of the 3-9 season)that we could very well be on the verge of being a juggernaut the likes of florida, usc, lsu, ou,andtexas.
"both florida teams that won those championships were smaller yet had more speed and athleticism and it showed on the scoreboard"
actually Dave, if you look at those two Florida teams, they were composed of big, athletic players who also happened to be really damn fast. Just look at players like Tim Tebow, Brandon Spikes, Carlos Dunlap, Brian Crum, Ray McDonald, Cornelius ingram, and so many others. Those Floria teams were NOT small at all.
"we could very well be on the verge of being a juggernaut the likes of florida, usc, lsu, ou,andtexas"
man, i hope you are right. that would be fantastic! and yes, I am a skeptic, and I don;t think Rodriguez is the answer. But i hope he proves me wrong and makes Michigan a powerhouse
A guy like Bell is awesome, because we don't have to compete with a USC or a Florida or any other team to get this guy, he's clearly the steal of this year's class no matter if he plays safety or linebacker!
A big safety, he came up to the line of scrimmage and stop the run as well as cover the inside receivers. Though he could add some bulk and be a very good outside linebacker at Michigan, he has the instincts of a safety in the passing game. Sunday's game proved that as he finished second on the team with five tackles and also added a pass breakup. He has a knack for being in the right place at the right time.
I'm surprised Bell was a 3 star propsect. I would think his performance in the HS all star games would have proven his worth. Bell is an unofficial 4 star prospect as far as I'm concerned.
Ya I agree, and I think they should have given Turner that 5th star, he led the East team with 7 tackels, he had a beautiful interception, and he shut down Rueben Randle, and other top notch receivers, he desereves 5th star over dorian bell of osu, and other players! Bell is a beast, he played amazing in that Under-Armour Game. So did Roh, he pressured and even sacked Russel Shepard.
This kid is an amazing athlete and a huge playmaker, but I'm baffled at the decision to move him to Linebacker. Granted, he is a big Safety, but putting him at LB partially takes away his big play ability. Linebackers don't get as many interceptions as Safeties.
Ya I don't know why people are saying he's goin to be a linebacker, I think Mike Jones wil become a linebacker, but for sure this guy will be a super fast linebacker, or your typical playmaking safety. He did really well in the Under Armour All-American High-School Game.
yeah that's what I'm saying. Mike Jones should be a Linebacker since he's more of a hard-hitting safety. Bell is too good at intercepting the ball and playing pass coverage to move him to Linebacker, I don't care how big he is.
Exactly, look at Taylor Mays of USC, he's a fuckin beast! He's 6-4, 235 lbs, that's a linebacker, he runs a 4.3, some even say a 4.25, he's a hard hitting safety. So, Mike Jones can move to linebacker cause I think we need another linebacker with safety speed like him. With all of the spread offenses in the Big10, Mike Jones is your perfect linebacker, even though he's coming in as a safety. He's got great speed, and speed is needed against the spread. Bell is just a great safety!
I think Bell being projected at outside linebacker is more a depth thing then a matter of where bell would be a better player at. We need outside lineabckers depserately. This was evidenced last season when we were forced to start John Thompson at the strong side. So i think Bell's projection at OLB is a depth thing. We need OLB, bur we don't really need safeties since we have Michal Williams, Vladimir Emelien, Brandon Smith, and Thomas Gordon secured for 2009 and beyond
Besides, maybe Bell will be the next Prescott Burgess, who was a 5 star safety coming out of HS but moved to OLB and started 2 seasons (he had a hell of a senior year in 2006). Or how about Jonas Moutan? He was a 4 star safety moved to OLB, and he had 76 tackles starting from the weakside last season.
I think bell would make for a better safety myself, but I ain't complaining about him at OLB (although if he DOES move to OLB, he'll need to bulk up)
i'm not going to lie... if william campbell comes to the M, and graham doesn't go to the league, i think you're going to have a very similar defense next year, and an offense that is going to be pretty legit once minor has a healthy senior year, you have a legit spread QB, and a more experienced line.
Hmm. Maybe. We will be pretty deep at linebacker as well though. Maybe even deeper then at safety. I'm thinking bell has a better future at safety then he does at linebacker. Either way, I hope he becomes a playmaker.
why doesn't bell get a shot @ safety?we desperately need some help there and @ corner.bell could be the answer.
footpedaldave 2 years ago
I've been hearing for the longest time that Bell is going to be an OLB, but I'm not so sure about that. We already have plenty of depth on both the strongside (Stevie Brown, Marell Evans, Kenny Demens), and the weakside (Jonas Moutan, Brandon Herron, Brandin Hawthorne). Plus Mike Jones might play either OLB position. But we are thin at strong safety. Brandon Smith is only a redshirt freshman, and Thomas Gordon is apparently too raw to play early. Bell might yet see PT at SS next season.

POOLE1DAN you're wrong buddy... speed is taken over size ANY day in college football. just like Footpedal or wahtever said, the line is the only place where speed doesn't matter.
you look at argueably the 2 most dominant programs in the country today, USC and Florida, they recruit for speed, size is a definiitely plus, but speed comes first
Hockeydudermv 2 years ago

Poole1Dan 2 years ago
You are talking out of your ass # one every guy that comes in a one position does not mean he'll play that at the college level and michigan is not recruiting speed only they have a good mix of size and speed Michigan DT average 6'2 305 DE 6'3 260 S 6'1 200 CB 5'10 185 LB 6'2 220 OL 6'4 285 TE 6'4 240 WR 6'1 190 RB 5'11 205 QB 6'1 190 P 6'4 220 THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SIZE OF MICHIGAN PLAYERS
TheAnswer915 2 years ago

TheAnswer915 2 years ago
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
Dude your a fn idiot. You see what Michigan is trying to do? What personel did we have last year that could do it? Give it some time. We had a very young team with no qb and managed to be in every game we played.
westonsz 2 years ago
"What personel did we have last year that could do it?"
are you asking what personell we had that could win football games? If so, i'll tell you: 7/11 starters returning from a 24th ranked defense (23rd in scoring, 8th in pass defense); 6 talented, experienced skill position players (Brown, Minor, Grady, Butler, Mathews, hemingway); and everybody back on special teams. half the team was composed of 4 and 5 star players. and the schedule wasn't that bad
yet, we went 3-9.

Buddy you cant put a square peg into a circle hole
richrodfan 2 years ago
I know that. I know damn well you can't run the spread option offense with prostyle players. thats not the point. the point is dickrod is stupid for trying to force the spread option down Michigans throats. You do not run a system that doesn't fit your personell........ever
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
RR had all three star and murdered oklahoma and georgia and imagine what he's gonna do with 4 stars at Michigan give the man some time.
richrodfan 2 years ago
"RR had all three star and murdered oklahoma and georgia"
and he took a team with 41 four and five star prospects and led it to a 3-9 record. Granted, the defense was a huge part in the 3-9 record, and that falls on Shafer, who is mercifully gone. But dickrod is mostly responsible for the offensive collapse by virtue of his failure to run the right offense and use the right players. I hope he makes Michigan a great team, but I don't think its going to happen
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
buddy they didnt fit his scheme...you cant have a spread qb running a 4.9 40 time...or defence that cant tackle hence you kinda blame carr which he never had a good tackling team..give the man some time btw and if you think ur so perfect get off youtube and stop talking shit about people you wish you have accomplished half of what they did.
richrodfan 2 years ago
"buddy they didnt fit his scheme"
you're mostly right about that, and ergo, a smart head coach needs to adjust his offense to fit his personell.
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
i see somewhat.but you got to remember manningham and arrington played in the capital one bowl.they went into the nfl the next year which i personally think was a mistake especially in arringtons case and was another reason for the 3-9 season.i felt the same frustration you did last season, but it will get better.MUCH better.come 2010,you will know why i'm so optimistic.and if i'm wrong then by the end of 2010 we'll fire him cuz of lack of wins/patience.then we'll hire a coach similar 2 him &win.
footpedaldave 2 years ago
"and if you think ur so perfect get off youtube and stop talking shit"

Poole1Dan if he could guide WVU to win against Georgia Bulldogs in a Sugar Bowl in Atlanta, Ga beat the ever loving shit out of them 28-0 first quarter then beat the hell out of Oklahomo; WVU won 4 bowl games in a row with RR's scheme and won the big east several times. It's all common sense that type of offense gets the job DONE period. Florida runs also look at them. Kicking ASS Mich just needs sum more 5 stare recruits!!! now they'll come by the truck loads. Look at the ND game.

Thoes guys are not the norm and they all had what there first year STRONG QB play.... i dont think Bo was trowing much in 69 but the rest of the guys did
TheAnswer915 2 years ago

Poole1Dan 2 years ago
USC and Florisa are both proof that you need tp recruit players with good size if you want to be a powerhouse. Same goes for Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas, Georgia, and Alabama. Not a single team in the hisotry of college football ahs won with speed alone. speed is a secondary trait in football. Obviously you can't be slow, but if you have at elast above-average team speed, your good to go. Of the last 11 NC's, only Florida in 06 and 08 had great team speed. but all thsoe teams had great size
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
Guys that can play can play they come in all shapes and sizes but Michigan is not just recruiting small and the guys that are not strong enough or big enough to be successful will get redshirted 6'0 154 now hes 6'0174 guys grow into their bodies remember these are 17 year old kids and guys like terrance robinson Martavious Odoms Jeremy Gallon all fit a part of the system you need to see the big picture these guys fit and will be successful in the RR system
TheAnswer915 2 years ago
"but Michigan is not just recruiting small and the guys that are not strong enough or big enough to be successful"
dickrod may not be exclusively recruiting little guys, but he's still recruiting way to many little guys for the team to have future success. depending on Terrance robinson or Martavious odoms to be your go to reciever is a strategy bound to fail. Look at Odoms last season: he was underwhelming at the very best.
Poole1Dan 2 years ago

Go Blue!
goblue918 2 years ago
I meant to say the real RR ERA has begun. LOL.
goblue918 2 years ago
I looked them up 4 up in the last 5 games he played in 2008. Minor averaged 90 yards per game...5 yards per carry and totaled 8 TDS on a shitty offense!
so thats 18 carries 90 yds and 1.6 TDS per game with no consistent blocking or help whatsoever. What a clown!
welchce 2 years ago
Yeah as you can tell I'm not a big Stevie B fan! He just makes me think back to the days of terrible DB play...I put him on the same list as Brandon Williams, Todd Howard, James Whitley and Markus Curry! They all got worked on a constant basis by the WR's they played against...Brandon Graham will be the best DL in the Big 10 next yr..prbly have the same type of SR yr Woodley did in 06..he will be double teamed a lot but that should open up Van Bergen and Martin on the other side...
MyNuts187 3 years ago
I'm just tired of watching third and fourth year UofM DB's play worse than their protege's/understudy's..i.e. (Brown vs every spread offense last year! and Morgan Trent at times)
I do stand corrected on the Turner comment...he will play corner as you said in 3 WR sets...if you have watched him before he excels at tight bump and run and press coverage but I noticed he has tendency to get lost or burned when he plays off a WR...I think he will learn the FS position much like Marlin Jackson did
MyNuts187 3 years ago
I'm no Stevie Brown apologist. I just don't think he's totally worthless. Hopefully he has a strong senior season in 2009. Michigan's secondary needs him to be productive, especially consdierng he's one of only two seniors who are projected to start on defense next season (Brandon Graham being the other senior)
As for Turner, it'll be interesting tos ee what happens as his career goes on. He'll be the nickelback in 2009, but he might play free safety in the future like M. Jackson did
Poole1Dan 3 years ago
i have never seen a player deserve less time than Brown. he constantly gets burnt deep, and tries to make big tackles, often times missing the ballcarrier altogether, he is your classic big athletic guy who is absolutely terrible
cardfanman1 2 years ago
Yeah Justin Turner should have an immediate impact in the Defensive backfield..a lot of parrels between him and Woodson..he is that kind of athlete maybe a little less polished....I like Forcier has the ability to create but he has happy feet in all his videos I have seen...Threet will be the starter early and slowly RR will mix in Forcier and Feagin as a change of pace and added dynamic...Sheridian should only see the field to hold on xtra points...that's it...unless its vs Minnesota
MyNuts187 3 years ago
Poole1Dan- I have been tracking your starting projections for 09' ....
Do you really think Stevie Brown will be starting at Safety after he gives up the first 14 points of the 2009 season after getting burned on a double move by a Western Michigan WR??? Honestly they should just throw Williiams, Brandon Smith and Justin Turner into the fire now!!!!! Even their inexperienced mistakes trump Stevie B's overall lack of pass cover skills! NO COVER More 2!!!!
MyNuts187 3 years ago
I totally agree, dude...stevie brown is not what I thought he would be before last season...might as well get those 3 in asap...especially excited about jt!!!! (of course, who isnt?)
truferblue22 3 years ago
I don't think Brown is gonig to start at free safety. He's horrible in pass defense. But he's got the size (6'0, 209) to playb strong safety, and he's also a halfway decent run stuffer (had 63 tackles a year ago). Plus Brown is a senior, a returnnig starter, and a former 4 star. Hwe brings experience and talent to the secondary. I think he could make a pretty efective strong safety. But he's not worth a damn at free safety
Poole1Dan 3 years ago
Also, Turner is gonig to be a cornerback, not a safety. He's projected to be our nickelback next season, while Warren and Cissoko are the starters. Michael Williams will likely start at free safety after playing well as Brown's substitute in 2008. And Brandon Smith has a chance to be a sub at either strong safety or free safety (given his size, I'd say strong safety, but he can play either position)
Poole1Dan 3 years ago
Name of song & artist?

he is actually 217 lbs now but i hope he plays safety cuz thats what they need
hustla513 3 years ago
well thats great, cause if he can bulk up to 230 by his redshirt sophomore or junior year (which seems likely) then he can play OLB. And of course, hes already big enough to play SS if need be. I love Bell's versatility
Go Blue!
Poole1Dan 3 years ago
i want him to start his first year because rich needs him and rich has none of his players really i know jt turner should play alot and prolly jt floyd will play to. we will see what happens
hustla513 3 years ago
Go Blue!
Poole1Dan 3 years ago
damn man how can u leave brandon graham out of that group he is their best defensive player graham, ezeh, mouton, and idk cuz we are going to a 3-4 now cuz of greg robinson. stevie brown is pretty shitty though he needs to leave like morgan trent ha
hustla513 3 years ago
If we go to the 3-4, then yes, Brandon graham is in linebackwer mix and would start as a rush linebacker just like LaMarr Woodley did in 2004 when we used the 3-4 as our base defense. But dude, I think we are going 4-3 in 2009 under Robinson. Our d-line would have Van bergen and Graham at the ends, Mike Martin and William Campbell at the tackles, Moutan and Fitzgerald/Demens at outside linebacker, and Ezeh in the middle. Graham would make for a kuch better end then linebacker, anyways. Go blue!
Poole1Dan 3 years ago
i would like to try a 3-4 cuz the ravens and steelers use it and they have the best defenses in the nfl. but a 4-3 then mike martin, cambell, bergen, graham that would be good as dline man i just dont know about the safetys and corners. warren is good but will boubar cissoko be good?
hustla513 3 years ago
I'm not opposed top the 3-4 at all. I think we will ahve the personal to run the 3-4 next season. We could start Martin and Van bergen at DE, Campbell at DT, B Graham and Moutan on the weakside, and Ezen & Fitsgerald at MLB. I just think the 4-3 defense would be better given our personall. But again, thats not to say the 3-4 is a bad defense
As for Cissoko, he had a pretty good freshmen season being ournickelback. i think he'll do fine as a starter opposite Warren. JMO
Go Blue!
Poole1Dan 3 years ago
i think we will do the 4-3 once robinson realizes what he has to work with. martin is a beast at DT and cambell will play DT to so brandon graham and bergen at DE. but thats enough about the defense what about the offense. Will tate forcier look like his two older brother that flopped or will he actually do something?
hustla513 3 years ago
IMO, Forcier will struggle and go through growing pains as a true freshman (should he end up starting), but i really think Forcier will be a star in the future.
Poole1Dan 3 years ago
i hope so he has the same exact size as pat white and he is a better passer than white. rich will find one if not forcier he can recruit.
hustla513 3 years ago
do u honestly think that forcier will struggle worse than threet or m-fing sheridan? he'll start...and if not him, robinson...i hate the experience argument when they talk about threet and sheridan...sucking all season is not experience...i tell that to the spartys all the time....playing all season and chocking on dick whilst doing it does not mean you will be good the next season...lol..forcier will take the first snap in 2009....and as always, dan... GO BLUE!!!!! :)
truferblue22 3 years ago
"do u honestly think that forcier will struggle worse than threet"
I don't know. I just know that in all liklihood, Forcier will go through growing pains and not star immediately as a true freshmen. And by the way, although Sheridan sucked, Threet did not. he only sucked in two games (Miami and Michigan State). But he played well in 4 games (Notre Dame, Wisky, Illinois, and Purdue) and was average in all the other games. Threet deserves a chance to start in 2009.
Go Blue!
Poole1Dan 3 years ago
if forcier is as good as i think he is threet and sheridan won't even get a whiff of the playing field with denard robinson also signing.if RR had any other options last yr. @ qb,do you think threet or sheridan would've even been considered for the starting gig?
footpedaldave 3 years ago
"if RR had any other options last yr. @ qb,do you think threet or sheridan would've even been considered for the starting gig? "
I will never be able to understand why Sheridan was even given a shot muchless got all the playing time he got. He's a pocketpasser, and not only that, he's a talentless walkon. As for Threet, I think he's a suitable QB and will be a star as he gains experiecne, but obviouslt Rodriguez would rather go with a dual threat QB.
Poole1Dan 3 years ago
wow, the first time ever i agree with you, at least on sheridan. threet would never be a star even on a HS team
cardfanman1 2 years ago
However, I should point out that Rodriguez had Justin Feagin at his disposal. It was just stupid of him not to utilize Feagin.
Poole1Dan 3 years ago
No, it's stupid for you to have delusional dreams for someone who can't compete at the college level. This has NOTHING to do with RR "not utilzing Feagin", much like you, HE SUCKS!I love listening to your Bullshit out here Nerd, did you even play football? Not jock-strap scrubber, did you play? Judging by your dopey looking picture, I bet you got your ass kicked daily. And when you talk, it sounds like your toungue is attached to the roof of your mouth, LAY OFF THE PEANUT BUTTER Daniel Dork!
Brewhaman 2 years ago
Maybe it was because Feagin is not a throwing threat at all. His passing stats were pedestrian in the lowest level of Florida HS football. Much more potential in the slot. As awful as a passer as Threet was, Feagin throwing the ball would have been a complete catastrophe. Learn the facts.
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"His passing stats were pedestrian in the lowest level of Florida HS football"
Feagin averaged 14 yards per compeltion, ahd a 60% completion percetnage, and threw 19 TD to only 3 picks. Those are fabulous stats. Not pedestrian stats. Feagin has got a good arm until he see otherwise (which we haven't, cause dickrod stupidly hasn't given him a chance).
and if you want to talk about Feagins compeition, then hiow about your gay lover Odoms? He played against shitty HS competition as well
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
He threw 151 passes, that isn't much. And you were talking about me being a "faggot" in a previous post. At least I don't use the word "fabulous" when talking about football, or anything for that matter. Odoms played on a higher level in Florida, and Pahokee played some out of state teams that were nationally ranked in the top 10. Nice try, that was cute.
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"He threw 151 passes, that isn't much"
its highschool. what would you expect? Forcier only threw 140 passes in his junior year. 151 is about average for a HS quarterback, maybe even a little above average
"Pahokee played some out of state teams that were nationally ranked in the top 10."
no they didn't. your making shit up. pahokee never played anybody of merit. they are just as low of a school as feagins school.
You criticizne feagin's comp. yet praise odoms. you are a hypocrite.
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
2+2=4, not 5.
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"Forcier threw 213 as a jr, 326 as a sr, and 221 as a soph. You lie"
sorry. I had made a Forcier/Beaver/Feagin video, and in the process of thinknig fast, I mistook Forciers stats for Beavers stats. I stand corrected on Forcier's attempts. But the bottom line is that 151 passes is about average for a HS QB. The offense Forcier ran at Scirrps Ranch was heavily pass oriented.
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
"Pahokee played Olive Branch in MS. Look them up, top 10 or so natl ranking. They also played Byrnes in SC, top 10 or so natl ranking as well. Also played Glades Central in FL, a very good team as well."
more lies from a chronic liar. Pahokee never played Olive Branch or Byrnes (SC) when odoms was there. And glades central? They were good in the 1990's but have fallen sicne then.
Like i aid: Pahokee hasn't played shit, yet you praise odoms and bash Feagin. Hypocrite!
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
The argument was whether Pahokee played good teams, not whether Odoms did. Nice try kiddo. Do you even know what hypocrite means? Kind of like a fan who undeservingly bashes the coach of his "favorite" team? I do believe so. If Feagin is so much better than Odoms, then why did Odoms catch 49 and Feagin catch 0? I know your answer, no need to bother replying, it is because "dickrod" is a stupid coach. It's like a fallback thing. Say it when you have nothing else to say.
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"The argument was whether Pahokee played good teams, not whether Odoms did."
If odoms wasn't on the team when Pahokee played good teams, then your argument means nothing. Pahokee played average/bad teams when Odoms was there. So for you to criticize Feagin for his compeition yet praise odoms and ignore his equally shitty comopetition is hypocritical.
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
There is no other way around it: Odoms played a hard schedule, Feagin played a very soft when. Beat a dead horse. I am right, you are wrong. Soak it in. It's ok. Stay in school. Don't procreate.
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"There is no other way around it: Odoms played a hard schedule"
Odoms did not play a hard schedule. the competition that odoms was played was the exact same quality as that of Feagins. There is no way around that. yet, you praise Odoms and hate on Feagin, you are a bloody hypocrite.
"I am right, you are wrong"
I've got facts and reasonnig on my side. you don't.
I win
Poole1Dan 2 years ago

of course I do.

Poole1Dan 2 years ago
"Odoms was a starter and was the default go to guy thanks to dickrod. On the other hand, Feagin spent most of the season at QB and rode the pine. Its kind of hard to make plays if your dumbass head coach is not giving you a chance to prove yourself"
I am so sick of hearing you blame everything on RR. Maybe Odoms played over Feagin because he is BETTER. Has that ever crossed your malnourished mind? The bottom line is that I am light years smarter than you. That's the bottom line.
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"Odoms played over Feagin because he is BETTER"
when Mornhiweg took the wind over the ball against Chicago, he thought that was the "better" decision.
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
another thing: evne if I were to accept this lie you are perporting that odoms actually played good competition, I'm only bringing up odoms competition because I'm exposing your hypocrisy. Truthfully, i don't care about odoms competition. Both feagin and odoms are from Florida, and the worst competition in Florida is better then the ebst competition in most other states. So if you are gonig to criticize Feagin, find something esel to say.
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
OK, how about his lack of production? How about Odoms non-lack of production? How do you like that? How come Feagin has permanently been moved from QB, without even being given a chance to compete with Tate and Denard? Feagin is 4th Slot Receiver, next to Odoms, then TRob, then Gallon. Stay in school. Don't procreate.
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"how about his lack of production?"
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
"Its kind of hard to make plays if your dumbass head coach is not giving you a chance to prove yourself"
Broken record. This is your default excuse. When you know you are wrong, just blame RR.
"49 catches for 443 yards when you are the go to receiver is awful"
Once again, then what does that make your BF Mathews? You are a HYPOCRITE. HYPOCRITE. Go ask your mother what that means. Stay in school, and don't procreate. PLEASE don't procreate.
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"Broken record. This is your default excuse."
its not an escuse.
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
"How come Feagin has permanently been moved from QB, without even being given a chance to compete with Tate and Denard? "
ask dickrod. I can't read his mind. he's made so many bone-headed personell decisions that its not even worth it to think about why he made them
"Feagin is 4th Slot Receiver, next to Odoms, then TRob, then Gallon. "
only in disney land. I'll admit that Feagin will be in heated competition with Robinson and Gallon, but odoms will be BURIED by all those guys

Wishful thinking. HYPOCRITE. If Feagin is awesome, and Gallon is horrible due to size, then why would they be in a heated competition? HYPOCRITE.
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"If Feagin is awesome, and Gallon is horrible due to size, then why would they be in a heated competition?"
Ideally Feagin would be declared the starter right now and Gallon would be riding the pine alnog with odoms, but because dickrod loves his little guys, they will be in a heated competition. This is unfortunate, but its the way it is

Get it through your head and deal with it.
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"No way Bell stays at S"
Can you read? I said i'm happy with Bell at strong safety or OLB. Where I want him at is dependent on his own development and on the depth of the team (IE, do we need him more at OLB or SS?)
"who would constantly get burned due to lack of speed/quickness"
kind of like Cato June, Ernest Shazor and Jamar Adams, right? Another pathetic argument on your part
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
"kind of like Cato June, Ernest Shazor and Jamar Adams, right? Another pathetic argument on your part "
Don't really remember Shazor and June getting burned. Adams did though. He sucked. The thing is though, for big safeties, they had speed. I'm not sure where you are going with this one. I am not used to debating with people several levels lower than me.
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"Don't really remember Shazor and June getting burned"
my point exactly. June and Shazor were all big, athletic safeties with average speed, and they rarely got burned. So why the hell would Bell be a bad strong safety? answer: he wouldn't. Bell would make for a good SS or a good OLB depending on where he ends up
And Jamar adams was named 2nd team All Big ten twice. he had 92 tackles in 2007. he didn't suck. Adams was a really good safety. Adams had average speed as well
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
Adams and Shazor are much faster than Bell. Bar none.
" Jamar adams was named 2nd team All Big ten twice"
Woopy.
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"Adams and Shazor are much faster than Bell. Bar none"
no they didn't. Look at thir 40 times or just watch them: June and Shazor have the same speed as Bell does. The only difference between Bell and June/Shazor is that bell wasn't highly ranked coming out of HS like June/Shazor were. Bell might be a star, or he might be a benchwarmer. But the point here is that he can play both SS or OLB and be good. we'll see what happens
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
They have much more speed. You can say they don't all you want, but it doesn't take away from the fact that they do. You can argue that 2+2=5 until you are blue in the face, doesn't make it true though. He can't play S and be good. He is entirely too slow. We don't have to wait and see, because there is no chance it happens. Stay in school. Don't procreate.
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"They have much more speed. You can say they don't all you want, but it doesn't take away from the fact that they do"
then how come they run the same 40 times? how come all the recruiting services say he is fast enough to play SS, just like June and Shazor were? The fact is, Bell ahs the same speed as Shazor and June. I ahve sources on this. you do not. I win. you lose
"He can't play S and be good. He is entirely too slow"
yes, he can play SS. ask anybody on rivlas or scout
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
Did you see the 40 times at the combine? Very few guys ran 4.4 or under. Get you head out of your ass and understand that HS 40 times are absurdly exagerrated.
"I ahve sources on this"
Do you expect me to take your word on this? Are you connected?
"yes, he can play SS. ask anybody on rivlas or scout "
I would, but I am not connected like you. Nice try kiddy.
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"Did you see the 40 times at the combine?"
what does that have to do with Bell having the same speed as Shazor and June? Nothing, thats what.
"Get you head out of your ass and understand that HS 40 times are absurdly exagerrated."
the fact remains that accoring to all the recruiting services, Bell has the same speed as Shazor and June and is fast enough to play SS and play it well
"Do you expect me to take your word on this?"
the sources are rivals and scout. nothing complicated
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
"'Jamar adams was named 2nd team All Big ten twice'
Woopy'"
That emans he was one of the 3 best safeties in the Big ten. and thats suppsoed to mean nothing? What a joke. besides, you praised odoms by saying "ohh!!! he will be 1st team all big ten in 2 years!"
bloody hypocrite
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
That would be 4 best safeties. Since 2 go on each team. First team and second team are a large difference. One is good, the other is OK. "Bloody hypocrite?" I thought you were from Michigan. Anyway, you have called me a hypocrite so many times that that word means nothing to me. Especially since I have not been a "hypocrite" even once. Stay in school. Don't procreate.
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"First team and second team are a large difference."
says who? You? Ann All Big ten player is an All Big Ten player. The first teamers are jjst better then the nd teamers. that doesn't mean the 2nd teamers are bad or medicore. Both 1st team and 2nt team players are good football players (sometimes great football players). look at brandon graham: he was 2nd team all Big ten in 2008, but he's not only good, he's GREAT.
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
"Bloody hypocrite?"
You said Corey Wooten being 1st team all Big ten is nothing, and then you heap praise on odoms for him being a "future 1st team all Big ten player." you only like a 1st team all Big ten player when it fits your bullshit argument. you are a hypocrite

"Speed kills big time, ask Oklahoma"
speed is a secondary trait.
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
"Florida's edge in speed over oklahoma is minimal at best "
OK. Keep telling yourself that. Perhaps the biggest understatement in world history. Florida made Oklahoma look like they were moving in slow motion. Speed kills, ask any college football player, or pro football player, or any athlete in any sport. You have to be retarded to think size beats speed. How can you tackle what you cannot catch? Ask yourself that, and spin it. Nice try though. Made me laugh.
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"Speed kills"
the only sports where speed kills is track and swimming. Other then that, speed is a secondary trait in every damn sport. Speed kills in basketball? Baseball? Volleyball? HA!!!!! what a joke!! And sicne we talknig about football, let me reitterate that of the 11 BCS national champions, only the Gators had great tram speeed.everybody else was either average or above average in team speed
speed is a secondary trait in football.
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
Keep telling yourself that. You will find nobody that agrees with you. NOBODY.
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"You have to be retarded to think size beats speed."
given the choice between a player like Jeremy Gallon who's only asset is speed and a player like Patrick Turner who's only asset is size, I'll take Turner. Tinty guys like Gallon and odoms who only ahve spped are NOTHING, they produce NOTHING. At elast a guy like Turner is a decent contributor
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
"Tinty guys like Gallon and odoms who only ahve spped are NOTHING"
There is no logic in that statement. So you are saying that if a guy is small, he cannot be good? Who led us in catches and reception yds last yr? kisses
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"So you are saying that if a guy is small, he cannot be good?"
not exactly. A tiny player CAN be good, but the far majority of the time, tiny guys like Gallon and Odoms are SHITTY
' Who led us in catches and reception yds last yr? kisses "
That means nothing. I would elad the team in catches and yards to is my coach fed me the ball a billion times a game
Odoms is shitty. Period.
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
The coach wouldn't do that, because you wouldn't be deserving of it. It's not like RR just picked some random dude on the team and decided to throw the ball his way most of the time. Don't you think RR probably thought highly enough of Odoms to do that? Stay in school. Don't procreate.
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"The coach wouldn't do that, because you wouldn't be deserving of it."
you are missing my point, which is that odoms leading the team in catches means absoulte ynothing because dickrod insists on giving him the ball a billion times a game despite the fact odoms does NOTHING with it. Odoms is the antithesis of production
"Don't you think RR probably thought highly enough of Odoms to do that?"
dickrod has proven to be an awful coach. what he thinks of his eprsonell means nothing.....
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
....what dickrod did by feeding Odoms the rock a billion times a game is the virtual equivilant of picknig a random dude from a podunk highschool and throwing him the ball all the damn time.
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
"How can you tackle what you cannot catch? "
All these skill position players with speed you are talknig about are 170 pounds. No 170lb RB/WR is going inbetween the tackles, its all outside - people like that don't last long
you force these speedy guys outside, and big athletic linebacker like James Laurinitis and Dan Conner will eat them alive
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
Why is a WR running in between the tackles? What 170 lb Rbs do we have other than Smith, who is thick? Those speedy guys cannot be caught in the open field, just ask Oklahoma's LBs and S. Once again, you cannot tackle what you cannot catch. Superior speed and quickness trumps size every time, 100%
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"Why is a WR running in between the tackles?"
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
No chance either one plays wide receiver. They might play slot receiver.
"the defenses will shut them down by locking up the perimeter of the field"
Could a D not do this to anyone? You make it sound so simple. A SR doesn't hang around the perimeter much anyway. The idea is to get them the ball in space in the middle of the field, where they cannot be caught. You are proving your lack of knowledge. I suggest you research or shut your hole. Stay in school. Don't procreate.
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"No chance either one plays wide receiver"
what does this have to do with anything I said? Jones and Smith will either be tailbacks or slot receivers. I enver said anythnig about them playing receiver. You are totally picking at straws now. How embarrasing!
"Could a D not do this to anyone?"
if the opposing offense has a threat down the middle of the field, then no they could not do this to anyone. But if your only threat is on the permiter, then a good oppsing defense will STIFLE you
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
"A SR doesn't hang around the perimeter much anyway"
yes, they do. Slot receivers in the spread option offense are perimiter players who get buble screens and run short ouside routes. didn't you watch odoms this apst season at Michigan? or West Virginia under dickrod?
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
"The idea is to get them the ball in space in the middle of the field"
are you fucknig crazy? Little guys CAN'T go across the middle! they'll get DESTROYED!!! Look at odoms: he makes a couple nice plays on post routes across the middle against illinois, and he gets CRUSHED on contact. He then misses the next game against toledo. After that, odoms was rarely sent across the middle. Tiny guys CAN'T go across the middle! They inevitably get injured! thast why they are relegate to the perimeter!
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
"where they cannot be caught"
if they ar even lucky to make the catch, they get destroyed on contact!
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
"What 170 lb Rbs do we have other than Smith, who is thick? "
i was using 170 is a general number. the botom line is that tiny TB's like Jones and Smith aren't gonig to be successful unless they are uber-talents like Fitzgerald Toussaint (see why i like Toussaint now?)
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
Jones did just as well as Toussaint, and played better comp. Mcguffie was an "uber-talent" and look where he ended up: Rice. Jones is just as "tiny" as Toussaint. The only difference is that FT is an "uber-talent." Well I say that Jones is too. There. They both can do well now. Since once they are anointed "uber-talents," they cannot fail. And only YOU can anoint them "uber-talents." Please anoint Gallon an "uber-talent," because I think he could be really good. Stay in school. Don't procreate
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"Jones did just as well as Toussaint"
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
"Well I say that Jones is too"
your claim here has no sources.
"And only YOU can anoint them "uber-talents."
I ahve sources. you don't. case closed
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
"Please anoint Gallon an "uber-talent," because I think he could be really good"
based on his HS stats, guru rating, and highlight video, I don't think Gallon is an uber-athelte. He's pretty good, but he's nothnig special. Gallon will make for a good returner, but I don't expect he'll do much of anythnig as a slot receiver
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
"Those speedy guys cannot be caught in the open field"
there's not gonig to be an open field for them to work with. The defneses will just shut down the pemiter of the field, as they don't ahve to worry about these tiny bastards going over the middle.
"Those speedy guys cannot be caught in the open field"
Oklahomas defense had to respect the middle of the field, as Florida had good size with most of their skill position players on offense. Thats not gonig to be the case with Michigan
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
"there's not gonig to be an open field for them to work with. The defneses will just shut down the pemiter of the field, as they don't ahve to worry about these tiny bastards going over the middle"
You show your ignorance once again. That's precisely where you want your SRs to be. The opponents D can shut down the perimeter all they want (because it is that easy, right) because small slot guys don't go out there often. Learn some stuff before you respond. Stay in school. Don't procreate.
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"That's precisely where you want your SRs to be."
yeah, sure, if you want to full up the local hospital with a swarm of players nursing torn ACL's and busted ribs.
"The opponents D can shut down the perimeter all they want (because it is that easy, right)"
its easy if you don't have to worry about the middle. tiny guys are absolutely NO THREAT across the middle.
"because small slot guys don't go out there often."
they ahve no chocie but to go there lest they want to get killed.
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
"Once again, you cannot tackle what you cannot catch"
Like I said, the defenses won't need to do any "catching." The litle guys won't ahve any room to operate
"Superior speed and quickness trumps size every time, 100% "
Nope. the last 11 national champions discredit this argument. Speed is a secondary trait. size is more important in football then speed. ask any compatent head coach. speed means nothing if you are a litle runt lie odoms.
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
They will have plenty of room to operate. Have you ever seen Harvin in the open field? That's the goal for SRs. I don't know what routes you guys run, but SRs don't go deep much, that's the WRs job. Hence "wide." The last 11 natl champs PROVE my argument. Any competent (learn how to spell) coach would prefer size over speed. That is a given. You are the only person on the planet that prefers size over speed on the football field. Size has gotten us nowhere. Stay in school. Don't procreate.
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"Have you ever seen Harvin in the open field?"
1. Percy harvin has enough size to be effective across the middle
2. Harvin was the NO.1 recruit in the entire nation, so his astounding athletic ability is gonig to allow him to be a gamebreaker whether he's gonig across the middle or on the perimeter. ergo, you can't compare 99% of slot receivers to percy Harvin. he's in a league of his own
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
"but SRs don't go deep much"
that has nothing to do with them being on th outside or the inside of the field. Tiny receivers are outside players. thts the only place they can go. and all defenses have to do is stack up on the permiter and the tiny guys will be SHUT DOWN, as they will ahve NO ROOM to maneuver. We saw this with west Virginia against Pitt in 2007, among many other games
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
"The last 11 natl champs PROVE my argument."
WTF? the last 11 NC's prove that you do NOT need great team speed to win the NC. the last 11 NC's prove that speed is a secondary trait. the last 11 NC's prove that size is more important then speed.
"You are the only person on the planet that prefers size over speed on the football field"
no i'm not. the only coach who's recruiting those tiny, speedy guys is dickrod. everyone else is looking at size. dickrod (and his supporters) are alone
Poole1Dan 2 years ago
Seriously, I am not just saying this to argue with you. Speed is a much more valued trait than size in football. I don't know where you have been in the last 15 yrs, but every coach prefers speed over size. All jokes aside, you are alone on this one. The only positions where size is important is on the lines. Speed is equally important in this case. Please renounce your fanhood of my team. You embarass us and make us look horrible. For UM, please find another team.
cardfanman1 2 years ago
"Speed is a much more valued trait than size in football."
No its not. If you have a football team stacked with 210 pound TB's and 230 pound LB's (all of whom, are over 6'0 ft) gonig up against a tream composed of 170 pound, 5'9 guys with great speed, the former team kicks the later teams ass everytime. Size matters more then speed on the gridiron

size matters everywhere on the field except QB and CB.

SPEED KILLS.everyone knows that. why do you think florida has won two af the last two cahmpionships?SPEED.Danny boy i love ya but i disagree.both florida teams that won those championships were smaller yet had more speed and athleticism and it showed on the scoreboard. but i think (and i know you're a skeptic cuz of the 3-9 season)that we could very well be on the verge of being a juggernaut the likes of florida, usc, lsu, ou,andtexas.
footpedaldave 2 years ago
"both florida teams that won those championships were smaller yet had more speed and athleticism and it showed on the scoreboard"
actually Dave, if you look at those two Florida teams, they were composed of big, athletic players who also happened to be really damn fast. Just look at players like Tim Tebow, Brandon Spikes, Carlos Dunlap, Brian Crum, Ray McDonald, Cornelius ingram, and so many others. Those Floria teams were NOT small at all.

A guy like Bell is awesome, because we don't have to compete with a USC or a Florida or any other team to get this guy, he's clearly the steal of this year's class no matter if he plays safety or linebacker!

Under Armour All-American Game. all defense team
S ISAIAH BELL
A big safety, he came up to the line of scrimmage and stop the run as well as cover the inside receivers. Though he could add some bulk and be a very good outside linebacker at Michigan, he has the instincts of a safety in the passing game. Sunday's game proved that as he finished second on the team with five tackles and also added a pass breakup. He has a knack for being in the right place at the right time.
GamblerLV 3 years ago
I'm surprised Bell was a 3 star propsect. I would think his performance in the HS all star games would have proven his worth. Bell is an unofficial 4 star prospect as far as I'm concerned.
Go Blue!
Poole1Dan 3 years ago
Agreed. Bell is severely underrated. I can't wait to see him with a winged helmet.
goblue9206 3 years ago
Ya I agree, and I think they should have given Turner that 5th star, he led the East team with 7 tackels, he had a beautiful interception, and he shut down Rueben Randle, and other top notch receivers, he desereves 5th star over dorian bell of osu, and other players! Bell is a beast, he played amazing in that Under-Armour Game. So did Roh, he pressured and even sacked Russel Shepard.
Go Blue!
goblue918 3 years ago
This kid is an amazing athlete and a huge playmaker, but I'm baffled at the decision to move him to Linebacker. Granted, he is a big Safety, but putting him at LB partially takes away his big play ability. Linebackers don't get as many interceptions as Safeties.
goblue9206 3 years ago
Ya I don't know why people are saying he's goin to be a linebacker, I think Mike Jones wil become a linebacker, but for sure this guy will be a super fast linebacker, or your typical playmaking safety. He did really well in the Under Armour All-American High-School Game.
Go Blue!
goblue918 3 years ago
yeah that's what I'm saying. Mike Jones should be a Linebacker since he's more of a hard-hitting safety. Bell is too good at intercepting the ball and playing pass coverage to move him to Linebacker, I don't care how big he is.
goblue9206 3 years ago
Exactly, look at Taylor Mays of USC, he's a fuckin beast! He's 6-4, 235 lbs, that's a linebacker, he runs a 4.3, some even say a 4.25, he's a hard hitting safety. So, Mike Jones can move to linebacker cause I think we need another linebacker with safety speed like him. With all of the spread offenses in the Big10, Mike Jones is your perfect linebacker, even though he's coming in as a safety. He's got great speed, and speed is needed against the spread. Bell is just a great safety!
Go Blue!
goblue918 3 years ago
I think Bell being projected at outside linebacker is more a depth thing then a matter of where bell would be a better player at. We need outside lineabckers depserately. This was evidenced last season when we were forced to start John Thompson at the strong side. So i think Bell's projection at OLB is a depth thing. We need OLB, bur we don't really need safeties since we have Michal Williams, Vladimir Emelien, Brandon Smith, and Thomas Gordon secured for 2009 and beyond
Poole1Dan 3 years ago
