  • The Hare is such an asshole.

  • And I always heard that the Hare lost 'cos it took a deep nap :) and not 'cos of tryin to seduce the gals ;)

  • @ newlookchick 0:39 sounds like a part of Pinoccio's I've Got No Strings

  • If I was the tortoise I would NINJA KICK THE DAMN RABBIT!!!

  • This cartoon was the first time I have ever heard of the Tortoise and the Hare when I was a child. Great job finding this.

  • Why the name "Silly Symphony"?

  • The reason they made this story is for fat people to feel good about themselves.

  • @Killaxi21 srry i dont wanna sound like a hater but that sounds kinda mean for all the fat ppl seeing your comment

  • Kids loved it, awesome.

we want the good old disney back!!!

like this for it to be on top of the page!!!

  • Even though he won in the end, why on earth would the tortoise accept a challenge to race a hare? Did he know something everybody else didn't? Or (as a later WB cartoon explained) was the fix in?

  • Thanks for uploading! That's a great moral story we can learn from. =)

  • ha haaaaa ha haaaaaaa ha haaaaaaaa lool

  • lool

  • They use the same limbering instrument for tortoise as the small turtle in Snow White.

  • Simply brilliant

  • i like the animal tortoise or a turtle

  • They just went full retard

  • @hjerneStimulanz "Slow and Steady wins the race" or "Hard Work and Perseverance bring Reward"

  • the hare reminds me of eddie murphy

  • Poor tortoise. My turtle can move very fast when motivated by food, lol.

  • Behold... Oswald's OTHER rival.

  • That Rabbit looks alot like the early Bugs Bunny.

  • @Milkman26789Z - It's been said that the WB folks based Bugs Bunny on Max Hare, and that there was some controversy about that.

  • One of my favorite Silly Symphonies, which I first saw when I rented the Walt Disney Cartoon Classics Vol. 11: Mickey & The Gang video compilation.

  • The tortoise and the hare is a 2,500 year old story created by Aesop in Ancient Greece: Learn more at: platos-academyDOTcom - A blog about everything Greek.

  • You can have all the talent in the world, but bottom line: Thou shalt not procrastinate. Intelligence and skill without ambition is like a bird without wings. I'm glad the hare learned his lesson.

  • og of animation flick's.

  • how old's he supposed to be? what's he doin at the girl's school???

  • I think if Tortoise works on his technique a bit he can get a lot more speed

  • ha haaaahhaa ha!!!!

  • I reminssence Max hare as Wile e coyote and Toby Tortoise as Road runner.

  • Moral of the story: the girls distract attention!!! xD

  • i Love the hare's laugh!

  • hare is a pedophile?

  • hi xbox

  • The Turtle Came 1st, LNB Hardshells TurtleIsland, Lenne Lenape (L'Nabi) the Nappi Headed ones....We The People.....TurtleClan aka TurtleGang.

  • Les derniers seront les premiers

the last ones will be the firsts

  • Max Hare reminds me so, so much of my sister's ex-boyfriend. He too, was exceedingly arrogant....and he ran track!

  • This cartoon won the third ever Oscar for animated short in 1934. This would be the second consecutive win for Disney for retelling a classic story. Although the hare's tricks are pretty neat, it is the tortoise who is so endearing. I love how he can just extend his limbs. lol.

  • hmm the birthday of bugs bunny !?

  • Tortoise= nice but slow

Hare= arrogant and fast and a sore loser teach the hare a lesson

put a cactus in his butt

  • The 5 people who disliked this have officially been brainwashed by the Jonasslicker BItches and Honnah Shitana!

  • When i was a little kid I had never heard of the Tortoise and the Hare story when I first watched this.I immeadietly thought the Hare was a jerk so rooted for the Tortoise the entire time.

  • whats the morale of this?

  • @ deboz1: That's why I prefer boys. xD

  • @Sangius8

    And Justice for all....

  • moral of the story...stay away of girls..:|

  • @deboz1 The moral is to stay focused on your goal and follow your plan avoiding distractions. Climbers have the same approach - slow but sure, they can't afford being distracted while climbing a mountain.

  • @iCaribbeanKing

Probably u missed :| symbol after my comment :D

  • The tortoise one.

  • Arrgggh JUST NINJA-KICK THE DAMN RABBIT!

  • Could the hare be the greatest athlete of all time? He didn't win the race but he's got some serious skills.

  • as classic as it was, wasn't there some kind of moral theme behind any of this? Like what means to be hubris or something?

    Thought it was.

  • lol 6:59 yay he crashed the camera!!! :)

  • Kick ass cartoon.

  • it won the academy award in 1934 and the raccoon sounds lk one of the seven dwarfs

  • I like turtles.

  • 3:51 WTF whit the mushroom

  • Never thought of it before, but the hare seems to almost be a caricature of someone.

My mind is thinking Clark Gable, but I could be wrong.

  • The hare's an asshole

  • the hare's laugh is hilarious. he's like "he HAAAAAH he HAAAaaah he haaah..."

    lol.

  • Ha.. ha.. ha.. ha.. haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!... XD

  • i haven't seen this snice i was 2

  • I always rooted for the hare in this story. Tortoises are stupid and slow. The tortoise would likely get lost and forget about the race halfway through. Hares are clever and tenaceous. I don't think that was the idea behind the story at all though. The moral is to be humble and persistent rather than a hot shot I think.

  • If we could be like the tortoise without being distracted from our goal, we would acheive great things :-)

  • those little white bunnies max hare meets in the race r cute but aren't they a little young to b hitting on him??? O-o

  • Nah, rabbits are smaller than hares, they're probably around his age or only a couple years younger.

  • Silly hare

  • ok the hare is cute but he definatly deserved to lose. he was too self assured. lol

  • Almost all good are is derivative. That part of the reason modern copyright laws are anti-art. Under modern laws Disney probably would have been able to go after Warner Brothers for producing Bugs because Max probably did partly provide the inspiration, just as Krazy Kat may have been an inspiration for Felix, but Bugs is brilliant in his own right and the world would be a much sadder place if the lawyers had protected us from Bugs being produced.

  • Hare - Tiger Woods

    Tortoise - Wang

Tiger's loafing around on the weekend during the PGA championship cost him a major.

  • One thing to know is that the Hare thinks he can beat the Tortoise, but towards the end of the race, he wasn't smart enough to catch up with the Tortoise. If the Hare hadn't been wasting time flirting with those female hares, he never would have lost. This is what happens when you are not focused. On the other hand, the Tortoise won because he stayed 100% focused. Although he did win by stretching his neck towards the finish line ribbon.

  • loser

  • pay attention to the red hats in this cartoon.

the skunks wear red hats - they are discriminated.

the tortoise wears a red hat - he is discriminated

in medieval time the jewish population of Venice was obliged to wear red hats to distinguish them from the christian population.

at the end the tortoise wins the race and puts the red hat on his tail, which symbolizes the revolution upsetting the status quo

  • you need therapy

  • this hare is so cute. Im going to like it!

  • looks like bugs bunny

  • aww, the tortoise is so incredibly sweet

  • Max Hare and Bugs Bunny should totally go out for a beer or something

  • girl's school? the hares a pervert! lol

  • I wonder why they used Mickey Mouse in the Silly Symphonies intro card... o.o;

  • m 2

  • "United Artists refused to distribute the Silly Symphonies unless Disney associated Mickey Mouse with them, resulting in the "Mickey Mouse presents a Silly Symphony" title cards and posters that introduced and promoted the series during its five-year run for UA."

  • Huh... that makes sense. Thanks! ^_^

  • What wonderful clever cartoons they had back then!

  • Wow! Thanks for adding these! =)

  • man watching these old cartoons reminds me of the spirit disney used to have... almost makes me cry how downhill they've in the last... 5 or 6 years..

its just not the same disney anymore.. its so fake now gosh.

  • That rabbit's laugh cracks me up.

  • Those girl rabbits also appear in Toontown on Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

  • they DO!? i did not see them....

  • What the...? The hare has 'Blue Streak' on the back of his robe! That's one of Sonic the Hedgehog's nicknames, but Sonic was created long after this cartoon!

  • DTV

The Doobie Brothers - It Keeps You Runnin'

  • what???????

  • Max Hare WAS copied. What do I mean?? Warner Brothers drew Bugs Bunny to look like Max.

  • why the hell is this comment thumbs downed? BUGS BUNNY WAS A COPY OF MAX HARE! look at the wikipedia page if you dont believe him. tex avery actually said "I practically stole it. Its a wonder I wasnt sued. The construction was almost identical."

so everyone who thumbs down kiriannasboyartisan's comment, youre a retard.

  • In the episode of Adventures Of Superman where he was in a running contest against The Flash, they did the same hand prank. Coincidence?

  • it's funny how the skunks are left alone becasue they stink, i remember this cartoon but never really noticed that when i was child

  • Also, when I get round to uploading it, have a lokk at Father Noahs Ark, the skunks are still discriminated against!
