"The Conqueror" was essentially a Genghis Khan "western", with John Wayne (!) as the famous Mongol warrior {and Susan Hayward as his "romantic prey"}. Unfortunately, the on-location filming, in a Nevada desert, was near an atomic bomb test site; the majority of the actors and production crew all died of some form of cancer over the next 25 years [including director Dick Powell, on New Year's Day 1963].
