Hey guys, please check out my interpretation of Capricho Arabe. It's DEFINITELY not as good as Bream's, but I still hope you guys still enjoy it. Please rate and comment. :)
I try to find other guitarists that are good, but when I can't Bream never disappoints. @RailroadBill76 haha yeah. I'm playing right as the video loads. XD
when i first started playing that really was unnerving to me. Like, where do i change tempo and where do i not! But you just have to know which tunes that you should be able to do so with(romantic)and which ones you shouldn't(baroque) and just take it from there. Specifically, it's really just interpretation how he phrases it.
Capricho in spanish can mean a variety of things, whims, desire, cravings even. In this case it seems to mean a memory of a desire of something Arabic. It most likely is a rememberance to the beautiful music of the moors in spain mixed in with spanish melodies. I hope this helps, unless you already figured it out.

I have a friend who speaks native Spanish, and she suggested "Arabic tantrum" as a possible translation, given the historical relationship of Arabic and Spanish culture.
then she doesnt know much about music, cause capricho arabe just means "arab caprice", capricho literally translates as whim, im a native spanish speaker aswell, which crosses over to its italian origin to the same effect, used to describe the nature of the caprice
Yup :P "Caprice" is the English version of Capricho, it's a true English word as well in the dictionary and everything. You'll find the word caprice in a lot of 19th century literature. It's not used so much in contemporary literature/dialogue so I guess it's not part of your everyday Americans vocabulary.
Tantrum? Do you see any aggressiveness of strength in here? It is just a sweet relaxing music that makes you feel he was admiring the Arabic buildings maybe when he wrote this!
nice, but it really irritates me when people mess around with the rythm in the first two ostinatos. It's written with a time signature for a reason and the deviation from it within this ruins it for me.
I agree, Julian Bream is peerless with this piece. I used to be a big fan of John Williams, and still am, but then I discovered Bream. He is a notch above Williams in my opinion in most regards.
i get the same feeling too. John Williams is no doubt excellent technically, but he tends to bore me a little. Julian, on the otherhand, is always fresh and exciting.
I love Julian's guitar tone. Absolutely beautiful. I do agree with Mod74 that usually songs in the top 10 usually are, but then again good rock and metal musicans are mostly classically rooted.
come on guys..u cant compare alternative rock or heavy metal to these types of compositions...its true that rock its not only powerchords..neo classical its born out of this..this type of delivarence it can only be found in jazz guitar wich is the classical guitar of the new continent...
If playing three or for chords with heavy distortion sloppily is meeting his "technical demands", it is even further proven that he in no way is comparable to Julian Bream. I'm not exactly sure how much you've "tried this kind of music", Btthhpp, but clearly the amount is insufficient if you consider the technical demands of the seperate genre's equal in difficulty and level within themselves. You must be joking.
Julian Bream never wrote a single note of music. Not one note. Different technical demands, but psychologically the same level of commitment. Julian Bream was a succsessful guitarist at the age of eighteen. If he'd had to spend his twenties working a day job and playing in bars on weekends, would he have lasted?
I stand corrected. He also (as I'm sure you know) did his own transcriptions of piano and lute music--Albeniz, Granados and Bach, etc., and those are first rate.
I'm glad you've heard me play, RW89, because I know you wouldn't comment on my skill or level of commitment without doing so. If you look at the comments, lickableplum never said Cobain was Bream's equal, only that one piece, Capricho Arabe, reminded him of another, a Nirvana song. Comparing two pieces of music you like, isn't an insult to anyone.
Heavy Metal and Alternative rock, uses elemets of classical music all of the time. While that might be shocking to those who don't listen to classical, the rest of us knew this all along.
No...sorry..no..I am sorry to inform you, Kurt Kobain in no way, even in his own..niche..anywhere near the artist that Julian Bream is. Stating this in no way is being a snobbish blowhard..it is stating the truth. And what exactly about Kurt Kobain's lyrics moved an entire generation? I won't even get into the aparent "technical demands" he met for his genre..
I've been reading these comments, and I think the people criticizing lickableplum don't quite get it. It seems LP hasn't listened to a lot of classical music, and you're just confirming that this world is full of snobbish blowhards. Speaking as one who has tried to play a number of different kids of music including classical and pop on the guitar, I can say they each have peculiar technical demands. And the classical guitar repertoire has its share of insipid, dull music as well.
Lickableplum, my dear fellow, it must be hard for you to live your life knowing that you are of no consequence and that your actions will only affect yourself. In future, say nothing, then you can be sure that your destiny is certain to be fulfilled.
they are both masters in their own right. just because one has more technical abilities doesn't mean disrespect. how about the importance of song and lyric writing? moving a generation of millions? and if u r offended, too bad it is how u have been conditioned.
Nah they arn't even on the same plane sorry. Nirvana is popular music. What Bream does is high art. The man is a master. The effort and intrinsic talent to reach that level is astounding. Kurt Cobain is talented, but comparing him to Juliam Bream is an insult.
Lickableplum--ignore these jerks. This music isn't out of reach of regular folks. Check out Inga's video of herself playing "Recuerdos de la Alhambra." It isn't a professional job, but it's still good. Also, check out my favorite classical guitar piece, Spanish Dance No. 5 (Andalusia). Petar Jankovic has the best performance on YouTube, iin my opinion. I think you'll like it. P.S.Not all plums are lickable. Don't these people eat fruit?
Cara, dá pra sentir o que o compositor da música quer passar, assim como outras músicas. além do mais: Julian Bream mandando ver nas cordas! Julian B. Vs John Willian... Julian, Obvious!
