"that guy" in front of the courthouse was a confederate general if i remember correctly, and yes i do call 5th 3rd bank the "big blue building" The "fouintain park" is called Triangle Park. I live down past the cemetary from there. And i just noticed it, but Stiehler1117 is an idiot for thinking that lexington isnt "all that" its better than Louisville. I have and always will love Lexington. Probably because i live here.
I think of a whole lot more than TWO things when I think of KY! There's also all the great state parks & the gorgeous nature (Red River Gorge, Lake Cumberland & it's park, Mammoth Cave (the longest underground system in the world, the Appalachian mtn.s). Then there's the KY Wildcat basketball program (greatest tradition in the land, & they didn't have to buy theirs, unlike UCLA. Thx for that, Sam Gilbert). Then there's bourbon. It's found all over the world, & much loved by millions. Enjoy!
I just moved from Lexington after having lived there for over 10 years. The park he is filming is in front of the library, and my friends call it Bum Park b/c of all the homeless. That statue in the end is by the courthouse, where they used to auction off slaves
IDK who you are but Lex is so much bigger than the two blocks you showed. I live here its not the city I love the most but your video is not good. It only shows an extreamly small part of lex!!!
ur chances of being shot in the back by a cop are much higher than getten robbed in lex in a crack hood. its a wonderful place for illegal aliens and all those who harbor and reward them. atleast theres 50% of the population left that speaks english.
Lexington is pretty but its boring as hell bc there's nothing for college students to do except party, which Im not a part of. They have a pretty good music scene, its just underdeveloped. Hm lexington isn't known for crime but I wouldn't live anywhere near downtown on a dare. I live in Wyndham hills, its nice, no crime. My favorite thing to do is go to woodland or shillito park and walk around. As far as the poeple being nice- that depends on the people ;D Im nice so find me?
I had visited Lexington, Ky for the first time in March of 2008. There was a bad snow storm that came through, but I had a good time going to the Fayette Mall and etc. I hoping in relocating there someday. The people there are really friendly. I plan to go back really soon. Thanks for posting this.
some areas of downtown are ghetto. You can generally tell. Areas near Tates Creek can also be not the greatest of areas. Good places would be Beaumont Centre, Hamburg, Clearwater, Clemens Heights, Copperfield, Firebrook, and Wyndham Downs. Lexington is generally not a crime ridden place.
Actually, Tates Creek itself is rather upscale with some expensive mansions and decent shopping centers. It is only OFF Tates Creek a couple of blocks east off Appian Way and Centre Parkway that you start finding some, er ... lo-lifes.
Don't know of any real ghettos near downtown area. West on Main and west on Versailles Rd will take you to "Little Mexico" area where there is a higher-than-usual incidence of crime .. in the northern reaches of Alexandria Drive.
uhh lets see eastland (my neck of the woods), winburn, hollow creek, east end (7th 6th 5th... street), westend (douglas park), woodhill, buckhorn, and parts of tates creek...
lex is awesome, plenty of upscale places to live, firebrook, equestrian woods, heartland, chevy chase, chinoe, all of southern lex. Stay away from the north and east side, nothing crazy bad about those places but welfare and medicaid recipients rule there.
Actually, Lexington Ky ranks #1 in city in the U.S. with the worse allergies and also #1 city in the U.S. with most property theft per capita. Despite that, it is a very nice city to live.
mexicans that shower once a month now own lexington and when the cops arent harassing people that are minding their own business theyre slandering people on myspace and beaten up people in handcuffs at the new state of the art jail which is where most of them belong
civilized cuz there is a starbucks? (theres more than one too!) i happen to respect the people in lexington (yes, i have family there). also, lexingtonions are civilized enough to keep their million dollar horses from roaming the city and on farms.
but other than that i like the "tour". i would suggest going out in the country (it is the prettiest countryside in the united states) and going to some of the more historical places rather than just the parks.
What I found funny about this video is that his "tour" of the city included maybe 4 blocks downtown. It's also odd that not a single human being is visible in this video. Did he shoot at 6am on Sunday or what? Still, what he did show and comment on was pretty positive. Thanks for that. But he was within a few blocks in any direction of lots more interesting sights and locations. Mary Todd Lincoln's home, Thoroughbred park, Ashland (home of Henry Clay), Transylvania Univ., The KY Theatre,etc...
Uh, that horse statue is in front of the OLD courthouse. The new courthouse is the building that the "open air shower" (as he called it) is at. I'm surprised he didn't go a few hundred feet northeast on S. Limestone, and go see the other fountain in front of the courthouse...
And what the heck does he mean by "civilized"?! (When mentioning the Starbucks). Just because we're in Kentucky doesn't mean we're inbred hicks or anything!
I'd rant more, but I'm almost out of characters remaining...
excuse ME! JERK! i live in lexington, and i personally love the 5/3 bank building! this is an awesome city with the second best donut shop in the US! ooooooooooh. sucka
If one wants to see horses, go to "Kentucky Horse Park".
What many don't realize is that the University Of Kentucky has world-renowned physicians, and many of the physicians at The Clevland Clinic are UK graduates.
I have visited friends in Kentucky, and I have never felt more welcome.
I am not particularly fond of this video, because the man did NOT even get out of town, did he?
Queen Elizabeth has horses in Lexington, and stays with billionaires (horse owners) when visiting.
uh...the fire is the eternal flame for all of our fallen cops and stuff.
also, john hunt morgan's horse was a MARE, not a stud. ((the statue you saw...it should be a mare...))
next time you are in lexington, you can call any of the famous farms and they'll give you a guided tour where you can see LOTS of horses. or, you can, i dunno, go to the horsepark of keeneland or something...
maybe if you left the whole 5 blocks of the downtown area you would have seen more of Lexington. You based the whole video of a town on a 5 block tour. Its not mayberry. Drive 3-4miles in any directions and you'll actually see real live horses!! OMG!
I actually did drive around Lexington, and I saw horse farms, but no horses... :-( unlucky I guess... how sad. Anyway I enjoyed Lexington and hope to get to work there again sometime.
Did you go to Kentucky Horse Park? I think those horses are so pampered in Kentucky that they live like royalty, and I am not kidding. Perhaps they were on their super King size beds taking a nap when you were there.
I live in Lexington Ky and I cant tell if your being rude or not. some of the comments sounded like we were hillbillies and the fountains were outdoor showers. and OMG we have a Starbucks wooo. Strange enough we even wear shoes and drive cars and not tractors. nice video but next time try to at least play it off that your excited to be there and that you respect the people that live in the community your filming
PurpleDragooon, I wasn't trying to be rude or disparaging of the people of Lexington. It was my first time there and I liked it, it's a nice town. I commented on the kids playing in the fountains because it really stood out, everywhere I went. No offense was meant. :-)
