  • What a voice and what a song...like it was written for him to sing. It would be great if Bill and Chicago would reconcile and tour together again but i suppose that's very unlikely. Thanks for all you've given us Bill!

  • Love this song, but there's one thing that always confused me about this era. I saw an interview where they said that adamantly resisted record company pressure to ditch the horn section. They said it would be like Elton John without his piano. I completely agree, but there were a number of songs like this that were devoid of any horns. They're all still great songs, but it was like they traded in their horns for a bunch of extra keyboard players.

  • whatta beautiful song,

  • Let's stop arguing. Kath is irreplaceable. But so was Cetera. Jason Scheff is a clone. Cetera was the voice of Chicago. But, damnit, Bill Champlin is extremely talented. His solo work was brilliant. Imagine all three together. Woulda been magic!

  • Bill Champlin is superb with that song...i just hope bill will return with the band together with peter cetera...and the other band members that left the group and have a some sort of REUNION concert...it will surely be a big hit

  • @prex0406 I wish they would too. Seriously, it's been like what 21 years? Peter Cetera has had no career since 1990, and Champlin's best stuff was with Chicago. They should reunite, and keep Jason Scheff in the group as well, he had many hits and has actually been with them longer than Cetera was. They could do a tour and play all Chicago tunes old and newer. I'd pay to see it in a New York minute.

  • Great memories of one of the greatest bands in history gives you the feeling that your are there again; life is full of moments, try your best to acumulate many of them before you reach the white Temple.

  • Beautiful song touches my heart part of me regrets my divorce .such a painful time in my life but forgive and u can live again a normal life such a great singing band with alot of heart and soul

  • I had this tape song sounds great then

  • I love Chicago!

  • When Cetera left the group, they basically let people write their music. This particular song was written by Diane Warren. She also wrote "I Don't Want To Live Without You"

  • Written by Diane Warren, produced by Ron Nevison, and sung by Bill Champlin.

    Is this really Chicago song?

  • Horrible.

  • nice song... idol tlga kita

  • Muzak

  • 07/29/2010... i take a quiz on fb... the top 5 songs on my birth yr.. and d no. song was this... LOOK AWAY by CHICAGO... ill try to find out,...wats that song... is all about ;)

  • this album came out during my junior-senior years...completely described all the teenage angsts of the times...

  • wow...no shortage of HAIR on stage haahahah..... ;)

  • why is this song sooo beautiful & sad at the same time!?

  • Reminds me of Barry Gibb.

  • More tripe from a band that knows how to sell records (I'll give them that). For such a band of great musicians, what a disappointment.

  • Boy, do they really look bored playing this! An 80's tribute band at a local indian casino could muster up more enthusiasm than this half awake version.

  • @61Slughi It's still better than 99% of the crap music, kiddie bands, and douchbag skinny jeans bands today

  • awesome song!!! love it!!

  • love the song

  • Bill Champlin has such an awesome voice. He is very talented. Long live Chicago!

  • I see a lot of postings from people on Diane Warren's songs.

They say they're crap. And that's why Chicago 18,19,21. Didn't do as well as Chicago 17.. I like this song a lot. And all of the cd's mentioned. Any input would be appreciated.

  • diane warren songs are what our local DJ tagges as KILLER SONGS---which means they hit the head and the heart of the listeners... so sad they don't appreciate good music

  • this song also reminds me

of the fact that i gave a baby up for adoption...... think about those words

  • i'm not single and ain't sad either, but i really, really love this song!!!

  • ug, i just became single and this damn song popped in my head

  • Cheers to that... :(

  • who was the lead guitarist with the bandanna in this video?

  • The lead guitarist in the bandanna is Dwayne Bailey I believe.

  • @Billyjk72

    Correct

  • Look away..........

  • i really like this song...

  • If we meet on the street some day

    Look away

    Don't look at me

  • wish i could figure out why this song always seems to make me cry when i hear it.

  • Because you're suicidal?

  • nope not the reason to why. then again what makes you think that?

  • we all have that!! :(

  • @SuicideOnMyMind For me, it's Pavlovian. It's "physioneurological." It's memories and sweet sweet sorrow...twinge of nostalgia. Steve Perry/Journey also has the same effect on me.

  • @SuicideOnMyMind

For me, it's heartaches...and just being someone who despises 2000's "wannabe-superstars"

  • if you see me walking by and the tears are in my eyes look away baby look away

...........don't look at me, i don't want you to see me this way

  • Ladies and Gentlemen ....

    GARY BUSEY !!!

  • Sounds like Robert Lamm.

  • This is one of my favorite Chicago songs. I also like Does anybody really know what time it is.

  • It's from Chicago 18

I think 25 or 6 to 4 is better, but this is great!

  • First song Chicago did that did not feature its' famous horn section, In fact I don't think the horn sections played at all on this song. First few times I heard the song I did not even know it was Chicago until the DJ on the radio said who did the song because it was a departure from what the band was famous for in the 60's and 70's.

  • Wow, such great passion...... phew..

  • Who is that singing at 3:38?? Bills lips arent moving!

  • Robert Lamm

  • I think it's Robert Lamm.

  • Perfect!.....i also love the music video to it too...great upload....thank you....5*****

  • since when did he play the guitar???!

  • Always!

  • wonderful song

  • Too bad Bill Champlin left the Band last week...Chicago will never be the same again, Bill has been with the Band 28 years...

  • Im not quite as torn as I was in 85' when Cetera left, but this is really a bummer! Has anyone seen Lou Pardini when he filled in for Bill when Bill was on hiatus? Im wondering how Lou is gonna sound singing Bill's songs?

  • Lou has filled in for Bill only two times previously and Robert has sung most of Bill's parts on songs like Make Me Smile and Dialogue. I hope that Lou will sing or that he may possibly not be a permanent replacement. I would have rather seen someone new and fresh join the band like Jason's good friend Jeff Babco. I'd like to see a new era of Chicago with great changes like when both Bill and Jason joined the band.

  • By the time everything is said and done, you might end up with a new band called Chicago II- The Next Generation.

  • It is Bill Champlin. Powerful, outstanding performance of Look Away.

  • Who sings at the ending part of this song ? before bill says when you called me up this morning.

    Alishadtaylor

    wbs

  • I Believe it's "Robert Lamm" ?...I'm pretty sure. I've asked few of my friend's , and we all agreed. Sorry It took me a little while to figure it out, you had me stumped on that question. LOL...

  • robert lamm

  • I Love this song 5 *....very touching....sorry.. I'm just very emotional....Chicago is great !

  • In many bands I want the original singer back, but this is just not one of them

  • Comment removed

  • Since when was willem dafoe, the lead singer ;)

Well that what he looks like on this video...

  • ended a marriage with my ex.. happy with some one >>>

  • It'll never be the way it use to be

  • If we ever meet on the street someday

    Look away

    Don't look at me

  • thats bill singing it! all of chicago sings songs. gosh. and they dont suck

  • i really prefer Peter Certera

  • Peter Cetera sounded like a gay mickey mouse

  • Peter Cetera left the band in 1985....

  • is it over?

  • just wondering why this video could not be shared to my facebook..

  • That is the worse mix, cover w/e of this song I've ever heard

  • It's not a cover. It's their song. The reason it doesn't sound the same is because.........it's live :-(

  • I was a senior, but I sure loved the freshman!

  • If you a were freshman in high school in 1990 you'll never forget this song. Total makeout song.

  • Yup Ive never heard of Freshman

But we were in the leaving cert year,.. This song and the cars Drive were the "nake out "songs ( we call it shift !! ) God im so old..!!

  • cant play this on keyboard :( that darn DX7 is detuned

  • Styx loses Dennis DeYoung, band wasn't the same,Journey loses Steve Perry, band wasn't the same, Doobie Bros loses Michael McDonald, band wasn't the same, If the Eagles were to lose Don Henley band wouldn't be the same. the list goes on...

Chicago was my All-time favorite even after Cetera left, but the band just wasn't the same. Champlin tho was a damn good addition.

  • Champlin was added to the band before Cetera left and they originally wanted him to replace Kath as the frontman. He refused and by the time he joined, Cetera had become the lead singer by default and the band as we knew it was lost forever.

  • @keegan6868 I'll have to say one thing, the new singer that Journey found sure does a good job of imitating Steve Perry though. It's like Journey Karaoke now. lol

  • @keegan6868 Champlin? Good addition? Not really he has ruined so many classics with his wanna be soulfull sound voice. he sounds more like Peewee herman when he does that. And the fact that they are letting him sing Kath's tunes is a sin!

  • @kevykev38 I've been a CHICAGO fan since 1970. Loved the original band but I feel once they became - not original - the Bill Champlin, Dwayne Bailey era was the best. Sad Mr. Champlin is no longer with the band.

  • @tdolka I am a fan of the Citiera and Kath . Anything after Citera left was gay. My own opinion. You have yours i have mine. Sorry I'm a purest. I can't stand to hear Champlin singing Terry's vocals.

  • @kevykev38 BACK SPACE!!! Read what I wrote!!!!!

  • @tdolka I did . Missing what your saying NOW. But THEN when you wrote your response. You are saying "the Bill Champlin, Dwayne Bailey era "was the best"?. Sad Mr. Champlin is no longer with the band."? right? I disagree.

  • @kevykev38 I SPECIFICALLY WROTE: Loved the original band but I feel once they became - NOT ORIGINAL - the Bill Champlin, Dwayne Bailey era was the best. No one can ever replace the great Terry Kath. I pity anyone who trys. Cetera is another issue with me. He thought he was something he's NOT and left for the almighty solo career. He fell flat on his face. Again, IMO: Since Terry joined the rockers in rock & roll heaven, The Champlin/Bailey era has been the best for the band. RIP MR. KATH.

  • @tdolka I understand what you are saying but i disagree with giving any credit to any form of the band following Kath's death. To me Chicago died with Kath. Any form after him was a parody of the band. I always wanted Chicago to have Ray Charles sit in with them and do Kath's tunes. Kath just had the soul and feeling in him that resonated out into their music. It was magic. For a great like Hendrix commenting on Chicago and saying "Your horn section is out of site" Guitarist is great too"

  • @kevykev38 Well, a true fan wants the music kept alive and flourishing. You don't drop it all cuz somebody couldn't handle a weapon properly and shot himself. I only wish Terry had as much respect for a firearm as he did for a guitar.

The Packers did not cease to be The Packers because Farve left. I'm done with this thread.

  • @tdolka Not a sports fan.. No need to cop an attitude. You stated what you like. I'm just stating what i like. And yes i did give up on the band after Kath shot himself. No need to get sore.

  • I've never understood people that say the can't stand something or person as if because they don't the rest of us shouldn't either.. So like those who couldn't stand Cetera STFU ...whether you like it or not after Cetera left Chicago they had one more top 40 hit Look Away, so the majorty Chicago fans most have liked the band better with Cetera, but Cetera is well off money wise and I'll bet doesn't give a shit what anybody thinks. All bands of tha era who lose the lead singer are not the same.

  • I guess the less you see the better it is. Look away.

  • I was listening to Chicago recently when this track came up and I love to hear Bill sing this song and it really fits my life right now and I wish some one would realize this, because I can picture that person singing it to me. He just needs to listen to the words.

  • I take nothing away from Jason Scheff or Bill Champlin but Peter Cetera was and definitely is the voice of Chicago. It would be nice to see Peter reunite with the band just for the moment.

  • No, he wasn't, the band always had multiple singers. There wasn't a single voice for the band. He was simply the face of the band during the video era.

  • Love it,just love it,classic,evergreen:).

  • perfect (L)

  • What a bumber! I love this song.

  • This version of Chicago stinks compared to the original Band. This guys voice is awful and his guitar playing is even worse.

  • He is the original singer!

  • This is the original singer and guitarist for that song!!!

  • I totally fell for this song when it came out and still love it! These days, I'm waiting for his son, Wills' new cd!

  • Bill Champlin's voice is the voice that melts chocolate.... sigh.... yummy!

  • They look like homeless people with that long hair. great music as alwayas

  • i love you too beauty ! mua mua mua jajaja!

  • the worst guitar solo i ever seen!

  • its becoz thats the way the song goes moron!

  • ooh sorry....are you a groupie or something ?? jajajajaaja

  • nope i am not a moron... its just your an asshole!!! thats it... u dont even knew what is E chords in guitars and you're talking about being worst!!! gargle first dickhead!

  • SCHELF Is Really Good.

  • I dont even recognize this as chicago... and apparently most of you need a history lesson about this band the "guy who died" never sang this song it is Robert Lamm and formerly Peter Cetera singing second lead DUH

  • DUH>

  • LOL!

  • And what a stupid fucking name do you even know what a mongoose is asshole? I lived in the VI and it is a cute little rodent that kills rats. So mongoose driver makes no fucking sense Fag!Go listen to You're the inspiration or some other faggy cetera tune. you've got no taste.

  • Lamm and this guy were the best singers-I can't stand peter cetera or his whiney grating painfully horrible voice.

  • Bill is the REAL Chicago

  • I've seen these guys twice, both times in Spokane, Wa. and both times they rocked! This is my favorite of all of theirs and as always, Bill does it so FINE.

  • I agree-way better than Faggy Cetera's voice-I could NOT stand it-the guy who died who sang saturday in the park was the best and this guy is good.

  • no puede ser, la cantan dos notas mas abajo

  • Bill fairly bursts with energy!!!!

  • Bill is what keeps these guys together. THe horns are just marking time, but he is the heart and soul of the group. What a great gig! To do this for a paycheck and do the Sons where he really shines. I'm jealous

  • True. This band would have been long gone if it werent for Bill.

  • It's interesting seeing Lee on guitar for Love Me Tomorrow and keys on this gorgeous song...hats off to the guy (underrated talent but P.C's still my hero!)

  • Everyone in the band knows multiple instruments.

How many band in the world now are like that? 1? 2? 0?

  • Zero bands actually...the bands today are useless in terms of musical knowledge and technicality! Bring back a band like Chicago or Toto and I'll be happy! :)

  • I can't stand Peter Cetera-I hated this band after the brilliant singer of Saturday in the Park died and PC took over. Then I rediscovered them in 89 when this awesome song came out because this guy sounds like a man not a gay dude ha!

  • Tris' drumming is great here. Smashing!

  • so pc was not in the band when this song san sang by chicago?

  • PC left the band in 1985. "Look Away" was released in 1988.

  • i just saw them in concert last saturday...this is my favorite song of them...THEY are STILL talented....that show was amazing...they are AWESOME!

  • One of my top 5 Chicago songs right here. I was a kid in '88 and I remember hearing this and wondering why this other guy was singing in Chicago instead of Cetera or Scheff, because that's all I'd really known up to this point in '88....BUT I ended up really really digging this song and bought the greatest hits 82-89 just for this song.

  • jason scheff is chicago

  • Post Peter Cetera era sucks, and this song proves that.

  • PC era was of COURSE amazing...

Bill's addition to Chicago goes beyond amazing...

  • PC is a prick. Meet him in real life. I've heard it and never believed it. If someone is your hero, the best thing you can do is never meet them. Peter Cetera is the best example.

  • Sorry to hear about your bad experience Kevin...what a letdown.

  • great song. don't think they sounded too great on this performance...but i love bill's hair :p

  • Yeah buddy

  • First comment!!!

One of their better ballads, and truly a heartbreaking number. Great performance. Awesome.

(I also gave it its first rating, too! First viewer?)
