  • This song walked into my life as my first true love walked out. Felt like my life was really over and wanted to end all. Bought the single, kept on playing it and it helped me through. Only recently recalled it after my Fathers death. Now it gives me strength and I can look back and appreciate all the good things for what they were.

  • what a great song !!

  • Such good music from that era. The days when the lyrics meant something instead of the egocentric-generated ones of today.

  • Stunningly beautiful song which reminds me so much of Christmas 1978 when Gran and Dad were still with us. Thank you so much for posting..

  • love this song

  • Does anyone know, the name of the intro tune, that was wonderfully played on the piano? Isn't it a classical tune?

  • chills

  • makes me want to cry and im a man im great now but my mum died in 2002 had alziemers n she got sexually abused in a nursing home . this song kept me going

  • listening to this, i realise how much i have let down the ones that care for me. they don't realise how much I love them.

I have messed up big time, I only wish they knew that I now know that.

  • @madbout ... they will know x

  • @mastersound66 sorry for the delay in replying. I have let them down by not supporting them. It hurts so much that I love them. I feel so bad.

    thank yoyu for responding.

  • @madbout we all mess up and have been messed around by those we care about. The most special thing about caring for someone is that they can mess up as much as they need to and we will still care deeply for them. it doesn't matter what you did, all that matters is that you can now appreciate the love you received when you needed it most and perhaps pass it on to someone you care for who is struggling.

  • @Alycrom thank you for your kind words. I just see every day, how much I wasn't there for them. sometimes you need the support of your loved ones and I wasn't there. I can't get back those times.

I thank you for taking the time to repond to my message.

  • I can remember being about 18 or 19 and coming home in a taxi at 8 o'clock in the morning , half asleep and still a bit tipsy from partying all night at a friends house but this song just made me sit up and listen. I even asked the taxi driver who sang it , when I got in I typed it straight on here and listened to it all over again. Now I edging towards 23 and I've forgotten most aspects of that night but I've never forgotten the taxi ride home , Such a beautiful yet sad and moving song

  • I still remember sitting in a taxi at eight o'clock in the morning coming home from a party at a friends house and this song playing, it was the first time I'd ever heard it . I was so in awe of it how touching the lyrics are and sadden by the subject matter that I've never forgotten it ever since . It is a very beautiful but very sad song

  • I nearly lost my best friend and it was this song and my comment that prevented his demise. I played it and told him one morning a few years ago and said, if you ever have a problem remember this. He did. For thee months he felt suicidal as he thought that no matter what he did he couldn't make anyone happy and planned to drive under a large truck. Yes that song though sad also helped to save a dear friend

  • The inner world can be so unforgiving. Yet, it wouldn't surprise me if songs like this have saved many people from quitting this world forever. It's the kind of words and feeling that someone who feels despair would appreciate during their time of pain. Beautiful song that touches hearts.

  • i agree, u must have feelings too. not many do on this sometimes cruel planet

  • wasnt this song used for a carbury's advert years ago?

  • Cadbury's it was

  • O_o ?

  • Hot Chocolate will, I am so afraid, always remain in that group of artists that it isn't until we start trawling through their back catalogue that we are suddenly thrown into "oh yeah remember that" and " wow I forgot they done that" Rolling Stones, Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, ELO; among them should be Hot Chocolate....a rare moment when I know I'm bloody right >:o)

  • Nice, real nice!

  • I put this on the video jukebox in a local bar the other and 2 girls were watching it...one of them started crying.Made me feel guilty as hell.

  • brings back sweet memories of allready thirtyone years ago.i was sixteen then, now im fourtyseven.dear lord, how time flies.

  • What is the song before this that I hear in the background?

  • Why the hell isn't he Sir Errol or Lord Errol?

  • Thank you for the much needed clarification.

  • what a wonderfull song.. its all about humpty dumpty i think.

  • The words of this song were written by Don Black. It was originally going to be in a musical and was written to be sung in the show by 'an agony aunt'. I don't know why but the musical didn't come to anything. If you listen to the words it all makes sense.

  • The musical was called "Dear Anyone"

It wasn't a success, though it did make it to the stage. Jane Lapotaire sang the song on stage, in the UK at least.

  • man don't make me laugh like that. got me off gaurd.
