Dark Spyro also has a higher base elemental stat than his normal counterpart. It's only in the 3DS version you really see a real difference in their combat.
Actually Dark Spyro has his own video and appears in the collection. If you have the cursor over spyro on the collection he will switch back and forth from spyro to dark spyro. If you select him while he is dark his own video will play!

@misereiko666 Most reviewers are usually required to finish the games before reviewing them so they can give a satisfactory and complete review on them. That's also why Mark has so many other people working for him doing reviews. Both Skyrim and Arkham City have already been reviewed by CGR anyway. Go check the CGR Undertow channel for those.

I already see this money-grubbing creeping into games that -I- enjoy, for example: Marvel: UA2 (also published by Activision) had 5 characters, maps, and trophies for 10bux, which is cheap. Upon purchasing the game, and going to the PSN store, I was horrified to find the DLC was removed, and it dawned on me that I had an unfinished game that I'd never complete. What happens to Skylanders in 2 years when they stop creating toys? 3 character game.

@DerpWorms Just make an RFID Sniffer and scan the figures at the store, then you can just make your own cards. RFID is one of the easiest devices to hack.

@drnapster I was a Nintendo fan, my cousin was Sony. Yet, I believe that an original character belongs on the system from which it came. That was when they were usually at their best. I did fully enjoyed those PS1 games though, they were different in their own right and a fresh departure from Nintendo titles. I bet most of the people whining about all of these nostalgiariffic games being dead haven't even played these new games. @johnmsanford let me rephrase then. The character is not dead, their game progression is dead. Essentially, when does a game character overstay their welcome and become a cliche of themselves. Their first games are indeed classics and are indeed playable, but does that mean more should be made. I have not even covered the Crash and Spyro crossover games. The true death of a character is when they jump ship from one platform to another, either they become better or worst. Ex FF7.
@PurePsykosis Spyro was ruined as a game far before Skylanders. However, it was the gameplay that was ruined, not the character itself per say. Gameplay evolves and gets better, and a character will be incrementally updated. This is not what happened. Spyro left Sony for Nintendo and the gameplay suffered, although it was the same character and franchise it had been. Skylanders is not a Spyro game or franchise. It only reiterates that Spyro has been dead as a game. That isn't Spyro

Spongebob and the simpsons. Zombies. Croc is dead though no doubt and Crash is probably dead. Although Rayman has been revived I think.
@shadowhexogram Rayman is not dead as it has branched out it's mythos into an exploitable universe. Rabbits are a spinoff of said universe and have done very well for themselves. Rayman has never suffered the same problems as Crash or Spyro, it has never had a down period of terrible games in an attempt to revitalize its franchise. It simply burned out, it never faded away. A few years went by without a new title and people were contempt with what they had. Croc is on hiatus.
@DoubleMGames, Frogger is the same as Pac-Man, he is allowed to change. Initially Pac-Man was a pixelated circle with no real distinctive form other than a flat shape. Anything from a 2D pixel to a 3D polygon is an interpretation of said form. It is nice to see these imaginative forms as it allows the viewer to have a fresh take and experience with the character. However that being said, if Mario was suddenly thin, without stach, wore a tank top & dickies, he wouldn't be the same.

That is beside the issue, Spyro has looked the same throughout his games. Skylanders appears to be a stand alone game that only incorporated Spyro as a marketing tool. Hey, Spyro was once popular, lets add him to our game with an interpreted look. It's just like Doki Doki Panic.

The game was made and was to soon be released; Nintendo then took it and slapped the Mario name on it. It is not a Mario game, nor should it be considered as one. Skylanders has done something similar, they created a new game from the ground up based on a marketable play style that seems to be quite popular now. Then they slapped a marketable character that was currently in the dead-zone.

Dark Spyro's fighting style in the 3ds version was pretty awesome looking. When it comes to collecting even different colored versions of the same exact character count. Just ask Pokemon they made a whole feature out of that!

@Honjetan Totally agreed. By making spin-offs in a franchise or making the games completely different, they aren't KILLING the characters. I bet most of the people whining about all of these nostalgiariffic games being dead haven't even played these new games. Which is a shame, because there are good titles they're discrediting, like stuff in the Star Fox series, or even things like Jak X. Makes me sad.

@johnmsanford let me rephrase then. The character is not dead, their game progression is dead. Essentially, when does a game character overstay their welcome and become a cliche of themselves. Their first games are indeed classics and are indeed playable, but does that mean more should be made. I have not even covered the Crash and Spyro crossover games. The true death of a character is when they jump ship from one platform to another, either they become better or worst. Ex FF7.

@PurePsykosis Spyro was ruined as a game far before Skylanders. However, it was the gameplay that was ruined, not the character itself per say. Gameplay evolves and gets better, and a character will be incrementally updated. This is not what happened. Spyro left Sony for Nintendo and the gameplay suffered, although it was the same character and franchise it had been. Skylanders is not a Spyro game or franchise. It only reiterates that Spyro has been dead as a game. That isn't Spyro

Spongebob and the simpsons. Zombies. Croc is dead though no doubt and Crash is probably dead. Although Rayman has been revived I think.

@shadowhexogram Rayman is not dead as it has branched out it's mythos into an exploitable universe. Rabbits are a spinoff of said universe and have done very well for themselves. Rayman has never suffered the same problems as Crash or Spyro, it has never had a down period of terrible games in an attempt to revitalize its franchise. It simply burned out, it never faded away. A few years went by without a new title and people were contempt with what they had. Croc is on hiatus.

@DoubleMGames, Frogger is the same as Pac-Man, he is allowed to change. Initially Pac-Man was a pixelated circle with no real distinctive form other than a flat shape. Anything from a 2D pixel to a 3D polygon is an interpretation of said form. It is nice to see these imaginative forms as it allows the viewer to have a fresh take and experience with the character. However that being said, if Mario was suddenly thin, without stach, wore a tank top & dickies, he wouldn't be the same.

@Melloron, it's a different game. Movies such as Batman and Transformers don't look the same as they used to in the past either. Just look at Ganondorf, he is the same guy but looks different every time.
That is beside the issue, Spyro has looked the same throughout his games. Skylanders appears to be a stand alone game that only incorporated Spyro as a marketing tool. Hey, Spyro was once popular, lets add him to our game with an interpreted look. It's just like Doki Doki Panic.

@dtanobo It is just like Doki Doki Panic, or as it is known in the States, "Super Mario Bros. II". The game was made and was to soon be released; Nintendo then took it and slapped the Mario name on it. It is not a Mario game, nor should it be considered as one. Skylanders has done something similar, they created a new game from the ground up based on a marketable play style that seems to be quite popular now. Then they slapped a marketable character that was currently in the dead-zone.

Dark Spyro's fighting style in the 3ds version was pretty awesome looking. When it comes to collecting even different colored versions of the same exact character count. Just ask Pokemon they made a whole feature out of that!

@FrozenParanormalwolf Sure, that's the genius with skylanders. All figures can be used on all versions of the game on any system. They store the info on a chip inside the figures' ass. So I could get some new skylanders for my x360, bring them to my less fortunate PS3 owning friend and brag about how awesome they are in HIS game. God, I wish these things were possible when I was a kid.
