  • After watching this video, I finally realized where I was wrong. I am forever in debt to you...

  • Uh, glad to help?... :)

  • I was looking for some roll examples to help me out with my training and even I know that this was not even close to a ninjutsu roll. Like Aderjin said, it's over the shoulders with your legs close to your body, etc.

If the person did indeed teach you to roll like that, then he is not teaching Ninjutsu at all.

  • I have reason to believe you may be right.

  • So what did you find out? Did you just learn it worng ( I find that doubtful ), or is he really teaching people to roll like that and calls it ninjutsu?

I asked my sensei today and described this roll and he told me that no such roll exists. I know my sensei is legit because our dojo is part of the bujinkan org. and he received the license to teach from Soke Hatsumi. They also get a year membership teaching card or whatnot. You could find out that way, if you already haven't.

  • check out my ninja rolls ova my own height onto hard dirt in my video 'urban nintard'

    cheers

  • How can you make a poor comment on his roll when you dont have some kind of vid. resp. showing you doing a perfect roll of your own? And I also like how you all think your ninjas, face it your not.

  • The way you roll on your shoulder and not on your neck makes it an Aikido roll, as opposed to a Ninjutsu roll.

    Just letting you know.

  • Interesting. I *have* been noticing differences between what my sensei teaches and the videos posted on Youtube.

  • just some quick advice: try to practice your roll's without the little hop beforehand. because if u ever needed to use it, you most likely will NOT have time for that little hop.

  • Oh God, I was afraid someone would notice... It's not a hop... I... I was supposed to jump right then, but chickened out. :O

    Ninjas are people, too.

  • haha, i gotcha man. no worries.

  • You obviously do not study Ninjutsu as that was most definitely not a Ninjutsu roll...

When you came out of the roll you hit your feet hard on the ground, that never happens in a Ninjutsu roll. Everything has to be as smooth as possible to prevent as much damage as possible. Try landing softly and in a crouched position next time, with your leading foot in front of the other leg.

And by the way Rhinoman45672, when Ninja do forward rolls they do roll on their shoulders.

  • Yes and ones foot position from start to finish aswell.

  • Well, this is roll is kinda big. So you might want to try to keep your legs closer to your body when you roll, and try to roll a shorter distance.

  • That roll is *meant* to be big. Small ones aren't as impressive and feel kind of useless. :)

Of course, this is coming from a white belt. Thank you for the advice.

  • :D No problem. OK, but can you also do rolls from fighting positions? I think it's good to be able to do that. (For, ex. a quick escape.)

  • Oh, ok.

You also seem a bit stiff, maybe it's the jeans? And I wouldn't recommend wearing jeans while practicing.

And I'm a fifth kyu bujinkan student. (I've been practicing for about 6 months or so.)

  • I wasn't practicing! We were just walking around with my parents, when they demanded I show them something for their new digital camera... Yes, I can roll from any position I can fall. Maybe I'll make another, more professional, video...

  • OK. Yeah, I kinda got the idea that it wasn't planned.

  • lol Ninja!!

cool video, 5 stars my brother.

    keep up the videos! :D

  • I liked it, very fast rolling.

    Stefano

  • There's a reasonable chance I just really suck at it. :)

However, in case I'm indeed studying bullshido: how do I check my teacher's credentials without offending them?

Keep in mind: for all I know, the man's a Ninja. I wouldn't want to get on his bad side...

  • If it is Chosen Ninja it isn't real. Find a good Taijutsu school to join. You will get more out of it.

  • No, I do not study under Master Park. And I already did.

  • Please make sure your teacher is qualified. Your roll is not a Ninjutsu roll from my experience.

  • I'm kidding, I'm kidding. Him and his assistant are the two nicest people you'll ever meet. Which is why I'd feel horrible calling their qualification into question.

I simply have no evidence, other than the fact that one of their students rolls like a cube.
