hey by the way do you know if anyone sells a side rail kit to instal on the draco? it would be really cool to have a kobra red dont on one of those lol
@iedhunter44 Yes, NFA laws are retarded. Also if you put a forward grip on your draco its no longer a pistol, its a "AOW" and thats illegal too. If you attach a stock and give it a 16 inch barrel its not an NFA weapon but if you take that and then try to reconfigure it back into a pistol again that is illegal. So the laws make no sense.
Can you buy the Draco SBR already US compliant? for someone like me whos not to handy in gun smithing? Just wondering... If not I guess I'll give it a shot!
@marctipp Thing is, when you have an SBR, you actually DON'T have to worry about 922(r) compliance. I have a PPS43 SBR and it doesn't comply with the 922(r) at all, and the ATF did in fact confirm that it was kosher like that.
@caseyreavis dude i totally agree and this even applies to machine guns and sbrs you dont have to pay the tax if your a good citizen just dont give a fuck how many times have a cop come into your house and looked over your guns ive been robbed and my guns where still there and the cops didnt look or find then in fact they asked and i said no and the cop told me to get a gun but in all seriousness 922r is retarded there is no way they know if your following the law come on now
@Sturmgewehre Hey, this is gonna be my first gun i get when im old enough, and plan on already SBR;ing (almost 16) and was wandering, hows the Draco been treating you?" is it reliable? and can you put Tritium sights on it? Thanks. :)
@shino9797 It's been a great firearm, I use it all the time and it's been 100% reliable for me. It's my favorite SBR. Yes, you can put tritium sights on it. XS sights makes a great AK tritium front sight.
@shino9797 My understanding is that federal law is 18 for rifles and shotguns, 21 for pistols through ffls, which the draco is a pistol. although some states have statutes that allow for the private sales of pistols to those over 18. if your olny 16 you have a while to wait. on top of a $200 tax stamp if your state allows SBR conversions.
If your a US citizen, not at all. Quite simply you purchase a Draco AK pistol, and then go through the paperwork and pay the ATF the proper homage (200 USD), then you purchase the parts and get to work, and I DO suggest you get the paperwork done BEFORE purchasing the parts for the conversion, as if they want they could come in, see the parts and gun and pronounce it an illegal SBR and take it.
Just remember, the ATF isnt your friend and would prefer you not to have the pistol to begin with. DO NOT give them any reasons to deny your paperwork, and DO NOT have the parts before they clear the paperwork.
I am going to be starting an SBR build from a Draco C model as soon as i get my paperwork. When i look inside i can see that its made from an underfolder. Can i still mount the Ace folder mechanism and stock to the rear of the trunion? Ive seen some people say you can and some that you cant. Is yours made from one with the under folder trunion? Does it even matter
@Thealexaqius yeah states still have a little bit of rights when it comes to that. They can say what you can have and what you can't have but even if you can have it you have to pay the ATF..
@CoryThe411 but the federal laws superseed eg if your state has no laws on sbrs then it doesn't matter as the federal nfa trumps the lack of state regulation
Awesome video, and awesome gun!! It's only semi-auto, right? One part of the vid sounded like auto or burst fire.. One more thing; I'm strongly considering getting one and building similiar to yours. Is it possible for you to list the parts/brands you have added? Thanks
@WR12MSH Yes, but it's more work and would require the services of a gun smith. Some Draco's have an underfolder rear trunion (mine does) and others don't. If it already has the trunion then it only requires a couple of holes to be drilled.
Like all AK barrels, it is removable, but is pinned in, meaning that the front trunion will need to be removed, barrel pin taken out, and then the barrel may be pressed out with a 20 ton press.

Another great video. All I can do is drool in Comiefornia. I have two DRACO pistols, but in CA you cannot have SBRs even NFA registered. Oh, well maybe someday.
I'm thinking about getting an SGL21 which is a very nice AK, but then again my safes are all full...maybe its time to get rid of something.
I am 100% set on doing this project. I think I am going to go with a Draco mini though. I have read that after a while the standard Draco starts to feel like a regular AK because like you said in the video its only 4 inches shorter than an under folder. I cant stop thinking about this build for a backpack capable SHTF gun. And it look s like good old fashioned fun. Can you make a how to video on SBR paperwork and engraving?
@themeleed A vertical grip up front would make it a AOW. If you have it registered as a SBR it's not a problem. If it's not a SBR, you will need to register it as an "any other weapon" for it to be legal.
Since you have at least one sbr have you had any visits from the atf? I am not of LE background and have no mil exp., but I consider myself to be a good law abiding U.S. citizen and I've heard of the stigma out there about class 3 weapons and I just want to hear from someone whos done it before I apply for sbr.
@free4life85 You shouldn't get any visits from the BATF if you have a SBR. The ATF only visits you if you do something illegal. Dealers get visits from the ATF pretty regularly, individuals with NFA items like SBR should never get visited. I have quite a few NFA items and I have never been visited in the last 10+ years I've owned them.
Thanks so much. I have asked you a quite few questions and you always get back to me quickly and nonjudgementally, I really appreciate it. Thanks again.
@free4life85 never had an issue, follow the laws and you have nothing to worry about. they have much better things to do. the only people that i hav ever heard of having issues are the people that bring the issues on themselves...
Greetings, man I really enjoy your channel and all that you guys are going. One question, up to what range would you say this DRACO can be decently accurate. I know the accuracy is increased but up to what distance? Thanks and keep up th great work.
@Adnan1084 I've found the Draco to be more accurate than a full sized rifle. This is likely due to the shorter barrel being more rigid. The only thing limiting the accuracy and range of the Draco are the short sights (use optics) and the bullet speed (range). But shots out to 200 yards should be quite effective.
@Sturmgewehre How accurate and controllable would a Class III Draco SBR be on full-auto bursts with stock opened and closed? I've heard that the 5.45 and 5.56 C3 Krinks are quite controllable, but I've never heard or been able to play around with a 7.62 model.
I know that AK's aren't known for their accuracy but I was wondering how this short barrel version compares to a full length barrel Ak. Is their any difference?
BTW that is one of the coolest AK's I've ever seen!
I know that AK's aren't known for their accuracy but I was wondering how this short barrel version compares to a full length barrel Ak. Is their any difference?
Ok..saw this video and you made me buy a Draco. :) What was your OAL on your Form 1 for this set up? Love the look and am doing the exact build (Ace 8.5, Arsenal black poly furniture and Tapco birdcage)...just tryin to finish up the paperwork. Thanks!
I like your vids, they are very informative and well produced. After watching this one it definitely has got me considering jumping on the sbr bandwagon. Question for you though, I like the vid you did on the SCAR 17s would I fill out the same sbr form to be able to purchase and mount the 13" CQC barrel that FN sells for that system?
@free4life85 If you want to manufacture a SBR, then you fill out a Form 1. If you want to buy one from someone else that has already made it, you would buy it on a Form 4. The fields are pretty much the same. You won't get a 13" barrel from FN, unless you know someone high up on the inside of the organization. They aren't selling short barrels to the public, not that I'm aware of (unless something has changed). The best you can do is send the barrel out to have it cut down.
im thinkin of SBR'n my mini draco, the regular draco is cool but i like how small the mini draco is especially if your gonna sbr it seems more worth it to sbr a mini then a regular draco. just my opinion and a great video keep em coming
Awesome vid! i wanna underfold mine. However, i gotta laugh when EVERYONE keeps saying that the Draco in pistol form is nothing more than a novelty. With a rear sling plate and loop sling i can drill 30 outta 30 into a 7 inch group at 50 yds. Its an ak, not a sniper, and 95% of combat is happens at 100yds or less. Novelty? Toy? I don't think so! LOL Otherwise, great video brother
Since its a pistol it isn't 922r regulated. Therefore, the only thing century does is put there import mark on it. Some have tapco triggers. Otherwise they are all Romanian. But even so, they are a crap shoot. 1st one i had would feed ammo for shit! had to slam the bolt home after every shot. Swapped it out for another one; functions beautifully, but this ones front sight tower is slightly cocked. still hits poa at 50yds tho. All in all a good gun. I recommend getting one!
My draco is still in pistol form but when i took it to my range i could hit the kill zone every time at 100 yards on one of the cutouts of the deer targets you get at dicks sports off or a rifle rest.It will be a sbr soon and this vid makes me know im doen the right thing.
It's so stupid that there HAS to be a pay enforced tax stamp to make a rifle LESS concealable.. Where's the logic in it? Rights infringed on this one.. Thanks BATF..
...........All the tax, compliance laws and requirements just penny pinch every responsible upstanding citizen arms owner; it makes no difference to the criminal.. So why are we getting fucked for their fault? And why do we tolerate it?
Shit gets expensive enough just purchasing firearm..
Do you have to provide a list of compliant parts when you apply for the SBR? meaning do you have to prove that it is 922R once you have gone through the process of SBRing it?
nice rifle. but all that for 4" savings. the draco was made so it can be a ccw in a vehicle, but is still an ak47 at heart and they all love folding stocks on them. no more hot car rides for that draco:( and this is the first vid i've seen with the 922r mentioned for sbr dracos. thanks for posting
@phishintube If that's the case then what's the point of putting a stock on one? Increased accuracy right. So what's the accuracy? it's a legitimate question (it matters to me). So what can this do, Spray and pray at 100yds or maybe only like 50yds. +200 to add a stock not to mention +100 (or maybe more) for the stock puts it more like a $700 gun = totally not worth it to me, if it isn't gonna hit in the kill zone on anything past 60yds. So again what's the accuracy like? Do you know?
Totally cool vid. Didn't want to buy a draco cause I thought century might have "worked on it" no offense but like reliable quality. This is some quality info, thanks!
I would like to make my Draco mini an sbr, i heard you have to get the name of a company on the rifle. I guess when you put the stock on, idk what exactly if it is true or not. Could you please tell me if you know anything about that. I thought you just have to pay the 200 tax, have the ATF ok it and that is about it. Thanks.
@Sturmgewehre Say i put the stock on it and everything like that, what do i have to put as far as me being the manufacturer. On the barrel that is. I think it would be hard to make the mini Draco 922. because it does not have reg. handgards to put a US handgard. Any ideas to make it have all the 922 parts i need. Thank you.
Great vid. I'm doing the same with a Draco except mine came with the Tapco HTS already installed, so I'm putting the savings into a Midwest Industries railed forend and a Primary Arms T1 clone. How close did you have to come in figuring the overall length for the form 1? Which length ACE stock did you use? At 6'4" I was tempted to go with the 9.5", but everyone I've talked to says it's too long, even for someone my size. Thanks.

I went with the 7.5" stock and the length you can guess-da-mate. Since people often times reconfigure their rifles after registering them, the ATF doesn't really care if you're off by a few inches. Yes, the 9.5" would be way too long I think.
Wow, great video. I've been thinking about SBR-ing a draco but it didn't even dawn on me that it would be subject to 922r compliance. Awesome stuff and great presentation.
Excellent review of the Draco SBR! Ive been looking to do one of these for years now, but never had a chance to see one fully done. You have convinced me to take the plunge :)
Fabulous job on the videos! For now, I'll stick with the full sized AKs and just put folding stocks on them. Never mind the cost of making a legal SBR, I just don't like the idea of having to haul paperwork with me every time I transport the weapon.
I put a US Palm Battle Grip on the rifle. It has a storage compartment in the grip that you can easily fit your paperwork into. That way, the paperwork is always with the rifle and you never have to worry about it.
@Sturmgewehre I just recently purchased a Draco with plans to SBR it. I noticed that you swapped muzzle devices, I was just curious if there is a device that simaltaneously reduces muzzle flash and muzzle rise? Great videos by the way, they have kept me entertained for several weeks.
@Sturmgewehre Thanks! The Troy is very reasonably priced compared to a Tromix Shark, or Gogun, and looks just as aggressive. It is just slightly more expensive than the Tapco RPK cage which was what I was initially going to install. Thanks again and keep up the great vids.
So if you wanted to put the stock on and a suppressor on at the same time would you have to pay only 200 tax stamp for both or 200 each? Im kinda lucky my country hasnt done anything like this... As yet :-x lol
With optics, they perform about the same. The Draco really shoots nice, at 100 yards using a red dot sight the gun turns in 2.5" groups with Brown Bear ammo.
Nice review, I like your videos. I would never change the looks of this draco pistol though. its just too badass and also quite unique. with the conversion it looks just like a 1000 other AKs...
Not without modification to the firearm. They won't just bolt on. Depending on which stock you want to use, it will require either cutting or replacing the rear trunion.
Check your state laws. Some states don't allow muzzle devices like brakes on a pistol so they just spot weld almost all of them for simplicity, but if your state allows muzzle brakes on pistols then you could go ahead and change it out.
What chest rig are you wearing? Are you planning on mall ninja-ing your Draco at all? (meaning optics, rails, VFGs?) Thanks in advance for your response.
Very cool. My video card died so I have not been commenting. I am back. Bought a glock 19 exo for my 21st birthday. I believe I've mentioned this before, I love it. I followed your review and your review only before buying. I trust your reviews. You are a no nonsense kind of guy. And we both own vz58's so I know that you know what superior firearms are.
So a midwest industries/ US palm rail would fit on this correct?
Assuming that part my question is, any idea if the sights will co-witness with burris fastfire set up on that rail system? Thanks for any info you can provide.
My assumption is that the Burris will co-witness. I have a Burris on my Interarm AK-74 with a MI rail and it co-witnesses just fine. Since the sights are the same height on the Draco, I assume it too will co-witness.
Ask an ye' shall receive! Thanks for the quick answer. I also noticed just now that your newest video review of the Red Jacket AK, your Draco was set up to what I had asked. Very cool.
Outstanding video! I have seen plenty of videos on YouTube on how they are made, and ones where they are shot, but none where I felt they really demonstrated what that rifle is capable of. I ordered a Draco yesterday, and really like how you set yours up. I think I just might have to look into some SBR paperwork...

What are the measurements for the threading on the Draco barrel where the flash hider is attached?
free4life85 6 months ago
Greetings, man I really enjoy your channel and all that you guys are going. One question, up to what range would you say this DRACO can be decently accurate. I know the accuracy is increased but up to what distance? Thanks and keep up th great work.
Adnan1084 6 months ago
@Adnan1084 I've found the Draco to be more accurate than a full sized rifle. This is likely due to the shorter barrel being more rigid. The only thing limiting the accuracy and range of the Draco are the short sights (use optics) and the bullet speed (range). But shots out to 200 yards should be quite effective.
Sturmgewehre 6 months ago
@Sturmgewehre How accurate and controllable would a Class III Draco SBR be on full-auto bursts with stock opened and closed? I've heard that the 5.45 and 5.56 C3 Krinks are quite controllable, but I've never heard or been able to play around with a 7.62 model.

Sweet video man, you should check out mine about the draco and the 5.11 Select Carry pack, works like a charm.

I know that AK's aren't known for their accuracy but I was wondering how this short barrel version compares to a full length barrel Ak. Is their any difference?
BTW that is one of the coolest AK's I've ever seen!

What is your opinion on the sights you have on your Draco sbr?
free4life85 7 months ago
Ok..saw this video and you made me buy a Draco. :) What was your OAL on your Form 1 for this set up? Love the look and am doing the exact build (Ace 8.5, Arsenal black poly furniture and Tapco birdcage)...just tryin to finish up the paperwork. Thanks!

Is the length of the piston in your draco sbr the same as the length of a full size AK?
free4life85 7 months ago
@free4life85 No, the piston is shorter.

@Sturmgewehre
I like your vids, they are very informative and well produced. After watching this one it definitely has got me considering jumping on the sbr bandwagon. Question for you though, I like the vid you did on the SCAR 17s would I fill out the same sbr form to be able to purchase and mount the 13" CQC barrel that FN sells for that system?
free4life85 7 months ago
@free4life85 If you want to manufacture a SBR, then you fill out a Form 1. If you want to buy one from someone else that has already made it, you would buy it on a Form 4. The fields are pretty much the same. You won't get a 13" barrel from FN, unless you know someone high up on the inside of the organization. They aren't selling short barrels to the public, not that I'm aware of (unless something has changed). The best you can do is send the barrel out to have it cut down.
Sturmgewehre 7 months ago
@Sturmgewehre Thank you for the info. Damn you FN damn you.

im thinkin of SBR'n my mini draco, the regular draco is cool but i like how small the mini draco is especially if your gonna sbr it seems more worth it to sbr a mini then a regular draco. just my opinion and a great video keep em coming

i really the heavy duty chest rig...where did you buy it from..i would like to purchase one for my ak 47..e-mail me with your info.
Thanks. mr farmer.

@mdfarmer2000 It's a US PALM Attack Rack. You can find them on Google. Scottsdale Gun Club usually sells them.

Would love to pick one up, but I have heard much of what comes out of Romania and century arms is garbage? Any comments?
badspell68 8 months ago
@badspell68
I recommend getting one!
irons0331 7 months ago

Do you have to provide a list of compliant parts when you apply for the SBR? meaning do you have to prove that it is 922R once you have gone through the process of SBRing it?

nice rifle. but all that for 4" savings. the draco was made so it can be a ccw in a vehicle, but is still an ak47 at heart and they all love folding stocks on them. no more hot car rides for that draco:( and this is the first vid i've seen with the 922r mentioned for sbr dracos. thanks for posting
phishintube 9 months ago
What's the bench accuracy like on one of these, like a ball park figure? Similar to a standard length AK or no?
colorsoluble 9 months ago
@colorsoluble the ak47 was not made for benches, its made for the trenches. it will hit the target
phishintube 9 months ago
@phishintube If that's the case then what's the point of putting a stock on one? Increased accuracy right. So what's the accuracy? it's a legitimate question (it matters to me). So what can this do, Spray and pray at 100yds or maybe only like 50yds. +200 to add a stock not to mention +100 (or maybe more) for the stock puts it more like a $700 gun = totally not worth it to me, if it isn't gonna hit in the kill zone on anything past 60yds. So again what's the accuracy like? Do you know?
colorsoluble 9 months ago
Totally cool vid. Didn't want to buy a draco cause I thought century might have "worked on it" no offense but like reliable quality. This is some quality info, thanks!
colorsoluble 9 months ago
I would like to make my Draco mini an sbr, i heard you have to get the name of a company on the rifle. I guess when you put the stock on, idk what exactly if it is true or not. Could you please tell me if you know anything about that. I thought you just have to pay the 200 tax, have the ATF ok it and that is about it. Thanks.
AK74Man87 9 months ago
@AK74Man87
You have to mark the rifle as the manufacturer. If you do the conversion, then you are the manufacturer. You can buy a punch set for $19 online.
Sturmgewehre 9 months ago

Thanks.

@onebigelf
I went with the 7.5" stock and the length you can guess-da-mate. Since people often times reconfigure their rifles after registering them, the ATF doesn't really care if you're off by a few inches. Yes, the 9.5" would be way too long I think.

Excellent review of the Draco SBR! Ive been looking to do one of these for years now, but never had a chance to see one fully done. You have convinced me to take the plunge :)
neo46121 10 months ago
Fabulous job on the videos! For now, I'll stick with the full sized AKs and just put folding stocks on them. Never mind the cost of making a legal SBR, I just don't like the idea of having to haul paperwork with me every time I transport the weapon.
CrystalHunter1989 10 months ago
@CrystalHunter1989
I put a US Palm Battle Grip on the rifle. It has a storage compartment in the grip that you can easily fit your paperwork into. That way, the paperwork is always with the rifle and you never have to worry about it.
Sturmgewehre 10 months ago
@Sturmgewehre Oh, that's a great idea! Never thought of that. Still, funds are dry at the moment so it'll have to wait. Thanks for the info.
CrystalHunter1989 10 months ago
@Sturmgewehre I just recently purchased a Draco with plans to SBR it. I noticed that you swapped muzzle devices, I was just curious if there is a device that simaltaneously reduces muzzle flash and muzzle rise? Great videos by the way, they have kept me entertained for several weeks.
MrCheeseheadbob 9 months ago
@MrCheeseheadbob
Probably the best out there right now is the Troy Medieval AK47 Flash Suppressor. There might be others, but I'm not aware of them.
Sturmgewehre 9 months ago
@Sturmgewehre Thanks! The Troy is very reasonably priced compared to a Tromix Shark, or Gogun, and looks just as aggressive. It is just slightly more expensive than the Tapco RPK cage which was what I was initially going to install. Thanks again and keep up the great vids.

So if you wanted to put the stock on and a suppressor on at the same time would you have to pay only 200 tax stamp for both or 200 each? Im kinda lucky my country hasnt done anything like this... As yet :-x lol
joehunt1980 10 months ago
@joehunt1980 200 dollar tax stamp each. 200 dollars for the SBR, 200 dollars for the suppressor.

I was under the impression from various letters I have seen from the BATFE that NFA items are not subject to 922r. Is this a newer change?
bmxscott1 10 months ago
awesome sbr! accuracy wise though, how does the draco compare to your underfolder? hows it hold up at 100 yards plus?
oozy816 10 months ago
@oozy816
With optics, they perform about the same. The Draco really shoots nice, at 100 yards using a red dot sight the gun turns in 2.5" groups with Brown Bear ammo.
Sturmgewehre 10 months ago
Nice review, I like your videos. I would never change the looks of this draco pistol though. its just too badass and also quite unique. with the conversion it looks just like a 1000 other AKs...
490Dodesheide 10 months ago
will it take any stock meant for AK's?
djackson111 10 months ago
@djackson111
Not without modification to the firearm. They won't just bolt on. Depending on which stock you want to use, it will require either cutting or replacing the rear trunion.
Sturmgewehre 10 months ago
I noticed in your assembly video you had the tapco razor flash hider installed, any thoughts?
bawitibaw 10 months ago
When can you remove the tac weld so can you change the muzzle device. I don't like how ugly it looks, or do you have to SBR it b4 you can do that?
maxwalker360 10 months ago
@maxwalker360
Check your state laws. Some states don't allow muzzle devices like brakes on a pistol so they just spot weld almost all of them for simplicity, but if your state allows muzzle brakes on pistols then you could go ahead and change it out.

Just a quick question if you could answer it.
So a midwest industries/ US palm rail would fit on this correct?
Assuming that part my question is, any idea if the sights will co-witness with burris fastfire set up on that rail system? Thanks for any info you can provide.
alwaysfaithful1110 10 months ago
@alwaysfaithful1110
My assumption is that the Burris will co-witness. I have a Burris on my Interarm AK-74 with a MI rail and it co-witnesses just fine. Since the sights are the same height on the Draco, I assume it too will co-witness.
Sturmgewehre 10 months ago
@Sturmgewehre
Ask an ye' shall receive! Thanks for the quick answer. I also noticed just now that your newest video review of the Red Jacket AK, your Draco was set up to what I had asked. Very cool.
alwaysfaithful1110 10 months ago
Outstanding video! I have seen plenty of videos on YouTube on how they are made, and ones where they are shot, but none where I felt they really demonstrated what that rifle is capable of. I ordered a Draco yesterday, and really like how you set yours up. I think I just might have to look into some SBR paperwork...
