The Japanese reading of her name is "Kurenai Misuzu"

In Japan, there exists a feeling that Chinese people are lazy. The saying is "shinraino chuugoku" which sarcastically means "reliable China".

This leads to another nickname for her of "Lazy Gatekeeper". Due to her clothes and attitude, she came to be known as "Chuugoku" which means "China." In 1 line of this song she says "chuugoku to yobenaide" which means "don't call me China". Supposedly even ZUN has called her this at some point.

Crimson is a shade of red, and Meiling's kanji is often misread as "misuzu" which is a type of bamboo.

Also, ZUN has admitted to calling her Chuugoku a few times. Although at the moment I don't think he cares that much about her as a character.
