  • Does anyone know how will we live in 150 years?

  • @thecoolkid4ever just hope no more justin bieber will be alive in 150 years

  • god fucking damn your advertisement too. shit they're so close to the slider bar at the bottom.

  • @loxidon667 click the annotations button smart one

  • 5:34 Oh no its those hip hop monkeys coming to rain on our parade! lol

  • 3:!6 TAPIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Does anyone think this movie was kind of scary? The thought of being completely alone millions of miles away from Earth with a killer robot and dead corpses in their hybernation tanks...OMG it makes me think I'd go insane. If I was Dave, I'd turn that ship around--I don't care how much the mission cost!

  • the ape at 6:03 must be thirsty as fuck

  • Where did that block come from? How did it get there? What does it mean? Why is it there? How does Kevin Costner keep getting work?

  • I started the movie at about 9:15 by accident, watched it for 10 seconds, then thought "WHAT THE FUCK?" and stopped it. LoL

  • Amazing how people have to be so difficult as to turn a movie about human progress into a bloody rampage over religion. Why can't we all just get along? Is that SO difficult? It's not, all you have to do is sit down, shut up, and watch the fucking movie. See, that wasn't so hard was it?

  • I know that I would not trust yo to be near any sharp objects.

  • Thanks for the annoying red bars, otherwise I might have watched this.

  • @SwamiraiJack You do know that the annotations can be turned off right?

  • @SuperSickNic But they'll still be there . . .waiting.

  • @RayWilliamJohnston I hit the wrong tab and accidentally used adblock. I will employ critical thinking the next time I hit a button, good sir. This movie is amazing- quit watching it on YouTube if it is your first time. It has to be on Netflix or Hulu.

  • fuck these red bars. i just tried to block them and ended up blocking all youtube videos with adblock on accident. it took me 5 minutes to learn how to get it back. take this bullshit off.

  • I thought this was a sci-fi movie not a nature channel (Just kidding!)

  • Never seen it before. I've heard two things, nothing happens, and it the greatest movie ever. Lets see if it can wow me or just bore me.

  • THEY ALWAYS USE THIS SONG FOR SOMETHING BIG

  • Haha me too h-h lol

  • We don't have permanent colonies on the Moon or interplanetary spaceships but we have better special effects and CGI.

  • MAN DID NOT COME FROM APE ITS JUST A MOVIE XD

  • @619badazz13 Man did not come from God; it's just a book.

  • @warlordgorgutz1 ok well if u believe that we came from an ape then were did the ape come from ? ...god .....god made every thing , read and you will learn

  • @619badazz13 You make it seem like one day apes just turned into humans. They didn't. It's a process, known as "evolution", that takes tens of thousands of years, at minimum. It is a theory that states, over vast amounts of time, early humans (who evolved from these "apes" you're talking about) eventually adapted to their surroundings and started to change to better suit it. So, an ape species, after five thousand years for example, would lose hair, maybe its jaw would change shape, etc.

  • @warlordgorgutz1 ok if evolution were true then were did it come from ?....umm god ....you know nothing

  • @619badazz13 Evolution is a theory, developed by Charles Darwin and published in his book "On the Origin of Species" in 1859. There, that wasn't too hard, was it?

  • @warlordgorgutz1 you know nothing and fail

  • @619badazz13 Well, at least you just reinforced the stereotype that all religious nuts are total ignoramuses who, when backed into a corner by their own lack of argumental abilities, simply resort to insults or blatant disregard of the evidence presented by their opponent, aka me. Bah, why do I even try?

  • @619badazz13 Where did your God come from then? I'll tell you. Super-God created your God just so he could have a lesser God to beat up on. Your puny God may have "made every thing" but Super-God created your God.

    Super-God's dial goes to eleven.

  • @SwamiraiJack you know nothing fag boy

  • @warlordgorgutz1 But that was not the end of it. These small changes occurred many times from the earliest human ancestors ( homo gautengensis ) all the way to our last known ancestors ( homo sapiens ) to create us, the homo sapiens sapiens. It was not just "Humans coming from apes". It is a theory that makes no less sense than the one theorized in the Bible, or the Qur'an, whichever is the holy text of your religion.

  • Thank you Charles Darwin. Without you, this movie would not have been possible.

  • Entering the Ring, accompanied by Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, and hailing from Charlotteville, North Carolina, The Nature Boy, Ric Flair!!!!

    Whoo!

    Whoo!

  • @vigo894 HE IS A 16 TIME WORLD HEAVY WEIGHT CHAMPION , THE NATURE BOY RIC FLAIR !!

  • como es que surge el monolito?

    help"

  • For film fans that want to view a uncompromised version of a great film, this is a great disppointment...Since 1948, viewers have consistanty been against the overload of commercials, but it falls on deaf ears, and it continues to increase...The borders on this download didn't have to be bright red, it greatly deterred from the enjoyment of this classic Kubrick film...When the Internet came into being, I was hoping most of the commercials would be eliminated.....I was wrong...

  • @nickellicker It's alright Gramps. I know technology is so tricky and impossible to figure out sometimes, but I'm here to help! Well, actually, the uploader already posted the solution, but since you have so much "old timer" wisdom, you probably overlooked that in favour of your own knowledge. You see, all you have to do to remove those little red borders is click that tiny, red dialogue box under the movie, you see it? It's next to the 360p...ya that one. Click it...see, they're gone! So easy :D

  • @nickellicker The fact that you can't use basic Youtube functions it's your own fault. Press the damn red balloon in the lower right corner of the player (left of quality settings) and turn off the borders.

  • What's up with the beginning,............. the earth slowly moving and uncovering the sun or the sun slowly moving! -- the thing that is hiding the sun which I suppose its the earth does not look like moving but the star do, so the only possibility is that we are standing in a spacecraft or the moon and going the other way the earth is moving around the sun

  • LMAO the monkey scenes are fucking hilarious.

  • The first music is "Also Sprach Zarathustra" by Richard Strauss, aka "Thus Spoke Zarathustra".

Zarathustra (Zoroaster): Iranian prophet who taught that good & evil have separate sources, competing for destruction/preservation of the world. It's basically the origin of the god/devil dichotomy in western religion, including christianity. Kubrick seems to be using it here (first because it's really cool music) to show the aggressive & passive sides of a being generating evolution by conflict.

  • The plains of Africa look awfully dead

  • the monkey scenes i remenber as a kid it gave me nightmare for years

  • Comment removed

  • @laodicea100 the truth is frightening. Also those are apes, not monkeys.

  • This would make a radical Christian have nightmares.

  • Spore: The Movie.

  • whats the music called at the beginning.

  • "To be the man, WOOOOOOOOOOOO!, you gotta beat the monolith!"

    WOOOOOO!!!

  • @atticus805

Ric Flair vs The Monolith. Epic FAIL!!!!!!!!

  • This is this the best part of the movie and the only part I watched so far.

  • this is rated G for some reason

  • i have an HD version of this and i just cant beleive this is out on the 60's it looks like it came out this year!

  • for a 1960's movie this looks amazing

  • That creepy background "music" gives me the chills

  • 2001, Is just a Brilliant Film in my Opinion the Absolute Best movie Ever Made and my God the Soundtrack alone was Incredible. God Bless you Mr. Kubrick!

  • I can't believe this movie wasn't even NOMINATED for Best Picture!

  • im sure if this is remade theyll put a black man as dave and have daft punk make the music

  • i want to see the first ten minutes of the film;' where the director talks about how having a colony base on the moon, is the best way to start a alien civilization search

  • THIS IS EPIC SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The most beautiful and important science "fact-ion" film ever produced -- for in the 4 plus decades that have followed, so much of what is seen here is right on target. It is compelling, confounding, and magnificent at the same time.

A distant runner up is "Mulholland Drive" -- both, to this day have been discussed and debated arguably more than any two other films in the past 50 years +.

    Love 'em !!

  • holy shit the beginning intro is the most epic thing i have ever seen,

  • You ruined it with those stupid red advertising borders top and bottom of the video.

  • @gav83 the annotation bars are optional. You can turn them off. There are bigger problems here. If you haven't noticed already some parts have recently been blocked due to copyright issue. I am surprised you are even watching this great movie here on the youtube when it can be watched on a tv screen by just getting yourself a dvd of it !

  • @totallyfreeenergy true, my friend, true. A question of format? I have the dvd, after having had the VHS-PAL version, and seen it on TV and in the theaters. I enjoy the availability of super-small-screen youtube. Keep in mind, too, that there are dvd zones -driven by commerce, not technology. I live between separate dvd zones: Europe and America. And my current netbook isn't able to play dvds. This is a message to the copyright holders as much as it is to you. Thanks for uploading.

  • @californialanguagela Thanks for the comment and for bringing up the dvd zone issue. I just hope Warner bros will lift the ban on the remaining parts.

  • @totallyfreeenergy then i have to spend a thing that is green has pres what is that oh yeah money

  • @gav83 You mad?

  • @gav83 dude you can close these up...

  • wonder if anybody actuly knows what the black box is besides me.

  • @swordsofe That's the beginning of a Type III Civilization. The automated colonization of galaxy.

  • @iTrollPhorPhun Cool have you read the books?

  • @swordsofe No, a Type III civilization is part of the Kardashev scale. Type III is a civilization that harnesses the energy of their entire galaxy, and automated colonization of a galaxy is the most efficient manner of colonization.

Currently we're a Type .7 civilization, since we fail to harness even 1 planet's energy. :P

  • @swordsofe I really dont know!what's the meaning of it?

  • @dannypadrino It is basically a aliens big computer that has god-like ability's to change and progress evolution on the planets that they send them to. At the end of the last book they all leave our dimension and go back where they came from.

  • Greatest movie ever, written by the greatest science-fiction writer & directed by the greatest director. Nice!

  • 13 people got killed by an ape using a bone

  • and now they're taking turns beating him on the ground while walking on two legs already xD LMFAO wooooooow

  • this part is just so scary!!!

  • i feel weird just sitting here, watching monkeys, alone haha

  • this is the fucking best oppening of a movie in the entire cinema history

  • How did men develepd speach ?

  • Kubrick's films need never be remade.

  • someone should remake this!!!

  • @TheSuperKevinroy ...............said with sarcasm? This movie doesn't need to be remade in my opinion

  • stanley kubrick is the greatist director ever!!! is he dead?

  • @TheSuperKevinroy Yes, he died 12 years ago.

  • this is the true human history...... get knolege from others...

  • I fell in love with this movie as soon as I saw the monkeys, the costumes looked so real, that it made the Planet of the Apes costumes look like human cadaver.

  • Tapirs never existed in Africa, nor is there evidence.

  • @Guyverman01 asshole thats supose to be animal antescertor of elefants i fell like kubrick in the midlle of chimps

  • @Jon58004 it is an old movie

  • @grantourismo0109 *sigh* *facepalm*

  • searched this just to watch the trailer. BONUS!

  • Did this movie come up with this song at the beginning.

  • @DaltonsMusicVideos Actually, despite what reisswilliams6 said, this music is adapted from a tonal poem called "Also sprach Zarathustra" by the German composer Richard Strauss.

  • Stunning, amazing video, congratulations.

  • Awesome...great upload...thanks brother

  • The change... Type 0 civilization to Type 1 civilization....the future

  • Dude, you need an award for the uploads.

  • Lol It's 2011 now but it's still shit.

  • A few weeks ago i went to my local blockbuster to rent this. Not only did they not have it available, they had never even heard of it!! They looked it up and claimed it was not available on dvd. Now i come here and most of the movie has been removed due to copyright issues. just great.

  • How erie is the music playing when they find the monolith?

  • Hey Hey, we're the monkeys! People say we monkey around, then the monolith lands here, Then with sticks their heads pound.

  • all together now : da da daa da daa dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun da da daaa dah daaa dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun da da da DA DAAAAAA!!!! DA! DA! DAAAA! DAAA! DA! DA! DA! DA! DA! DA! DAAAAA! DAAAA!!! DA!! DAAA! DA! DA! DA! DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

    CLASSIC!

  • 12 people were tapirs

  • @tuthseeker010101 we evolved from hominids wich are apes, these are homonids.

Can someone tell me what that rectangle is and why its there?

  • @FullyAutoMathmatics that monolith is a computer... it is the aliens computer and it's job was to teach intelligeint life how to use tools and weopans and the apes win the first battle in recorded history

  • @FullyAutoMathmatics It's open to interpretation. One interesting take is that it represents the movie screen. Truth be told, no one really knows.

  • @FullyAutoMathmatics The monolith represents the urge to kill.

  • @WilymanBob Umm, I can't tell if you are being serious or not. But the monolith definitely does not represent the urge to kill. The purpose of the monolith is to kick-start evolution. In this movie, humankind is possible thanks to the monolith. It sets evolution in motion (the evidence being that the apes discover the "tool". The tool being the bone used as a club)

  • @msumman1 In actual fact, the meaning of the monolith was never explained by Kubrick. However he did say "You are free to speculate as you wish about the philosophical, and allegorical meaning of '2001'." So, tthere is no correct answer to the emaning of the monolith!

  • @WilymanBob I completely agree that the nature of the monolith was never explained explicitly, and yes you are right about Kubrick saying that movie is up to your own interpretation. However, i've seen 2001 enough times (because I am obsessed with the movie) now that it is very safe to interpret that meaning. In other words, you notice how, after the monkey realizes he can use the bone as a tool/weapon, it cuts to humans in space. Kubrick was trying to portray how far humanity had come.

  • LMAO THE CHEETAH ATTACKED THE APE LOL

  • -leopard attacks suddenly- CAAAAAAAT!!!! -flails arms-

seriously never having seen this movie before, I find it an interesting way to start it all

  • 12 people are Michael Bay fans

  • 00:28 Hehe, looks like a boobie.

Nah, I'm kidding. I like the meaning behind the film. Still fascinates me.

  • We are not from Tapers either

  • We are not from apes,we have a common ancestor.

  • Comment removed

  • the history of black people is very interesting.

  • @evilfreddy2006 dude don't make me laugh, lol.

  • fuking, en peru y bolivia hay monolitos extraños

  • this was shot thanks to nasa.do your homework.

  • whats the name of the music at the beggining?

  • @ivancarlo01 The music is 'Also Spracht Zarathustra' by Richard Strauss

  • @WilymanBob thanks i always hear it in tv

  • What are those other animals cavorting with the hominids at around 3:08 ? I'd love to have one in pygmy form.

  • @SurgeCess I'm no expert mate but they look alot like tapirs to me.

  • @RyanBM Wow thanks, I feel embarrassed now, I'm from south america and don't know what Tapirs are.

  • This copy doesn't offer any recognition to the effort of the people that worked in this movie, which unfortunately seeing it makes IMMORAL in our society where artistic work is not different than any other product of human effort.

  • God, I love this film. But I STRONGLY urge anyone who hasn't seen it before to exit, find a real copy and watch it properly. Otherwise you're cheating yourself and making Kubrick spin even faster in his grave (his current RPM being due to Spielberg's "A.I.").

  • @assassthenation I second that motion. This is a good way to get people interested, but they should rent of buy a good DVD release and watch it on the biggest screen with a good sound system. It's really the only way to fully appreciate it.

  • I thought monkeys live in jungle.

Jungle/rainforest is an equivalent of a city for all species.

Monkeys should live in a jungle... it is only when men can walk upright and shed fur that they became adaptable to the newly created desert Africa (which is due to climate change).

  • @xponen They are not monkeys. They are Australopithecus, hominids of the Pleistocene period.

  • @WilymanBob you mean they're Australians? I knew it

  • most of the crappy comments could not have been made prior to Stanley!s masterpiece.Hindsight being 20 20 and all.thumbs up i saw this movie when i was 8 years old' but where on line could this movie be viewed

  • Did the first 2 monkey's crawl from under a rock?

  • monkeys are funny

  • twit why yanks like space ??? never happen humans cant dont are not supposed to fly

  • @bobodd5 Yet there is such a thing as airplanes and space ships? mmmmmh. But where not meant to fly. Interesting. Also yanks aren't the only ones who like sci fi.

  • @lopmch5 hi no offence but like chickenfoot is part alien so what i mean is global warming engines thw mystical potato head groove thing ha what a joke

  • @bobodd5 What is the mystical potato head groove thing? Is it in the same league as several species of small furry animals gathered together in a cave grooving with a pict?

  • this movie reminds me of Dr. Michio Kaku

  • The first real sci-fi film

  • Every time I see "THE DAWN OF MAN" I think to myself: "Good place to start". My favourite film of all time.

  • H --- I

    A --- B

    L --- M

    the sponsor of the movie

  • is there a video of the first 5 minutes that were cut from this movie?

  • Tapirs in Africa!?

    Good one.

  • @miaowffy 40 million years ago, remember...

  • now a days the tea baggers would say this was a conspiracy by the hollywood liberals to destroy the christian belief that we were all put here by god,

  • @proutVA actually Kubrick was influenced heavily by Aleister Crowley and other occultists so that statement isn't far from the truth...the question i guess is do you agree or disagree with the destruction of that belief.

  • The theme from this movie was played as I was being born.

    I feel so epic lmao.

  • @JDMAero bullshit cunt
