Does anyone think this movie was kind of scary? The thought of being completely alone millions of miles away from Earth with a killer robot and dead corpses in their hybernation tanks...OMG it makes me think I'd go insane. If I was Dave, I'd turn that ship around--I don't care how much the mission cost!
Amazing how people have to be so difficult as to turn a movie about human progress into a bloody rampage over religion. Why can't we all just get along? Is that SO difficult? It's not, all you have to do is sit down, shut up, and watch the fucking movie. See, that wasn't so hard was it?
@RayWilliamJohnston I hit the wrong tab and accidentally used adblock. I will employ critical thinking the next time I hit a button, good sir. This movie is amazing- quit watching it on YouTube if it is your first time. It has to be on Netflix or Hulu.
fuck these red bars. i just tried to block them and ended up blocking all youtube videos with adblock on accident. it took me 5 minutes to learn how to get it back. take this bullshit off.
@warlordgorgutz1 ok well if u believe that we came from an ape then were did the ape come from ? ...god .....god made every thing , read and you will learn
@619badazz13 You make it seem like one day apes just turned into humans. They didn't. It's a process, known as "evolution", that takes tens of thousands of years, at minimum. It is a theory that states, over vast amounts of time, early humans (who evolved from these "apes" you're talking about) eventually adapted to their surroundings and started to change to better suit it. So, an ape species, after five thousand years for example, would lose hair, maybe its jaw would change shape, etc.
@619badazz13 Evolution is a theory, developed by Charles Darwin and published in his book "On the Origin of Species" in 1859. There, that wasn't too hard, was it?
@619badazz13 Well, at least you just reinforced the stereotype that all religious nuts are total ignoramuses who, when backed into a corner by their own lack of argumental abilities, simply resort to insults or blatant disregard of the evidence presented by their opponent, aka me. Bah, why do I even try?
@619badazz13 Where did your God come from then? I'll tell you. Super-God created your God just so he could have a lesser God to beat up on. Your puny God may have "made every thing" but Super-God created your God.
@warlordgorgutz1 But that was not the end of it. These small changes occurred many times from the earliest human ancestors ( homo gautengensis ) all the way to our last known ancestors ( homo sapiens ) to create us, the homo sapiens sapiens. It was not just "Humans coming from apes". It is a theory that makes no less sense than the one theorized in the Bible, or the Qur'an, whichever is the holy text of your religion.
For film fans that want to view a uncompromised version of a great film, this is a great disppointment...Since 1948, viewers have consistanty been against the overload of commercials, but it falls on deaf ears, and it continues to increase...The borders on this download didn't have to be bright red, it greatly deterred from the enjoyment of this classic Kubrick film...When the Internet came into being, I was hoping most of the commercials would be eliminated.....I was wrong...
@nickellicker It's alright Gramps. I know technology is so tricky and impossible to figure out sometimes, but I'm here to help! Well, actually, the uploader already posted the solution, but since you have so much "old timer" wisdom, you probably overlooked that in favour of your own knowledge. You see, all you have to do to remove those little red borders is click that tiny, red dialogue box under the movie, you see it? It's next to the 360p...ya that one. Click it...see, they're gone! So easy :D
@nickellicker The fact that you can't use basic Youtube functions it's your own fault. Press the damn red balloon in the lower right corner of the player (left of quality settings) and turn off the borders.
What's up with the beginning,............. the earth slowly moving and uncovering the sun or the sun slowly moving! -- the thing that is hiding the sun which I suppose its the earth does not look like moving but the star do, so the only possibility is that we are standing in a spacecraft or the moon and going the other way the earth is moving around the sun
The first music is "Also Sprach Zarathustra" by Richard Strauss, aka "Thus Spoke Zarathustra".
Zarathustra (Zoroaster): Iranian prophet who taught that good & evil have separate sources, competing for destruction/preservation of the world. It's basically the origin of the god/devil dichotomy in western religion, including christianity. Kubrick seems to be using it here (first because it's really cool music) to show the aggressive & passive sides of a being generating evolution by conflict.

@FullyAutoMathmatics that monolith is a computer... it is the aliens computer and it's job was to teach intelligeint life how to use tools and weopans and the apes win the first battle in recorded history
@WilymanBob Umm, I can't tell if you are being serious or not. But the monolith definitely does not represent the urge to kill. The purpose of the monolith is to kick-start evolution. In this movie, humankind is possible thanks to the monolith. It sets evolution in motion (the evidence being that the apes discover the "tool". The tool being the bone used as a club)
@msumman1 In actual fact, the meaning of the monolith was never explained by Kubrick. However he did say "You are free to speculate as you wish about the philosophical, and allegorical meaning of '2001'." So, tthere is no correct answer to the emaning of the monolith!
@WilymanBob I completely agree that the nature of the monolith was never explained explicitly, and yes you are right about Kubrick saying that movie is up to your own interpretation. However, i've seen 2001 enough times (because I am obsessed with the movie) now that it is very safe to interpret that meaning. In other words, you notice how, after the monkey realizes he can use the bone as a tool/weapon, it cuts to humans in space. Kubrick was trying to portray how far humanity had come.
@msumman1 In actual fact, the meaning of the monolith was never explained by Kubrick. However he did say "You are free to speculate as you wish about the philosophical, and allegorical meaning of '2001'." So, tthere is no correct answer to the meaning of the monolith!
This copy doesn't offer any recognition to the effort of the people that worked in this movie, which unfortunately seeing it makes IMMORAL in our society where artistic work is not different than any other product of human effort.
God, I love this film. But I STRONGLY urge anyone who hasn't seen it before to exit, find a real copy and watch it properly. Otherwise you're cheating yourself and making Kubrick spin even faster in his grave (his current RPM being due to Spielberg's "A.I.").
@assassthenation I second that motion. This is a good way to get people interested, but they should rent of buy a good DVD release and watch it on the biggest screen with a good sound system. It's really the only way to fully appreciate it.
Jungle/rainforest is an equivalent of a city for all species.
Monkeys should live in a jungle... it is only when men can walk upright and shed fur that they became adaptable to the newly created desert Africa (which is due to climate change).
most of the crappy comments could not have been made prior to Stanley!s masterpiece.Hindsight being 20 20 and all.thumbs up i saw this movie when i was 8 years old' but where on line could this movie be viewed
@bobodd5 Yet there is such a thing as airplanes and space ships? mmmmmh. But where not meant to fly. Interesting. Also yanks aren't the only ones who like sci fi.
@lopmch5 hi no offence but like chickenfoot is part alien so what i mean is global warming engines thw mystical potato head groove thing ha what a joke
@bobodd5 What is the mystical potato head groove thing? Is it in the same league as several species of small furry animals gathered together in a cave grooving with a pict?
now a days the tea baggers would say this was a conspiracy by the hollywood liberals to destroy the christian belief that we were all put here by god,
@proutVA actually Kubrick was influenced heavily by Aleister Crowley and other occultists so that statement isn't far from the truth...the question i guess is do you agree or disagree with the destruction of that belief.

@tuthseeker010101 we evolved from hominids wich are apes, these are homonids.
Can someone tell me what that rectangle is and why its there?
FullyAutoMathmatics 11 months ago
@FullyAutoMathmatics that monolith is a computer... it is the aliens computer and it's job was to teach intelligeint life how to use tools and weopans and the apes win the first battle in recorded history
SuperColonel77 10 months ago
@FullyAutoMathmatics It's open to interpretation. One interesting take is that it represents the movie screen. Truth be told, no one really knows.
Spengler56 10 months ago
@FullyAutoMathmatics The monolith represents the urge to kill.
WilymanBob 10 months ago
@WilymanBob Umm, I can't tell if you are being serious or not. But the monolith definitely does not represent the urge to kill. The purpose of the monolith is to kick-start evolution. In this movie, humankind is possible thanks to the monolith. It sets evolution in motion (the evidence being that the apes discover the "tool". The tool being the bone used as a club)
msumman1 10 months ago
@msumman1 In actual fact, the meaning of the monolith was never explained by Kubrick. However he did say "You are free to speculate as you wish about the philosophical, and allegorical meaning of '2001'." So, tthere is no correct answer to the emaning of the monolith!
WilymanBob 10 months ago
@WilymanBob I completely agree that the nature of the monolith was never explained explicitly, and yes you are right about Kubrick saying that movie is up to your own interpretation. However, i've seen 2001 enough times (because I am obsessed with the movie) now that it is very safe to interpret that meaning. In other words, you notice how, after the monkey realizes he can use the bone as a tool/weapon, it cuts to humans in space. Kubrick was trying to portray how far humanity had come.

This copy doesn't offer any recognition to the effort of the people that worked in this movie, which unfortunately seeing it makes IMMORAL in our society where artistic work is not different than any other product of human effort.
TomMKG 11 months ago
God, I love this film. But I STRONGLY urge anyone who hasn't seen it before to exit, find a real copy and watch it properly. Otherwise you're cheating yourself and making Kubrick spin even faster in his grave (his current RPM being due to Spielberg's "A.I.").
assassthenation 11 months ago 2
@assassthenation I second that motion. This is a good way to get people interested, but they should rent of buy a good DVD release and watch it on the biggest screen with a good sound system. It's really the only way to fully appreciate it.

I thought monkeys live in jungle.
Jungle/rainforest is an equivalent of a city for all species.
Monkeys should live in a jungle... it is only when men can walk upright and shed fur that they became adaptable to the newly created desert Africa (which is due to climate change).
xponen 11 months ago
@xponen They are not monkeys. They are Australopithecus, hominids of the Pleistocene period.

now a days the tea baggers would say this was a conspiracy by the hollywood liberals to destroy the christian belief that we were all put here by god,
proutVA 11 months ago
@proutVA actually Kubrick was influenced heavily by Aleister Crowley and other occultists so that statement isn't far from the truth...the question i guess is do you agree or disagree with the destruction of that belief.
