1. That was NOT the least worst option. A much easier, and far more effective option, is to give up their National pride, and join the west, and abandon Communism. This would've made Korean war go much smoother, for both sides, and would've improved economy significantly faster.
2. Country is ALWAYS getting stronger by the year. Even Zimbabwe right now is stronger than it has ever been. It is just the way of things. But the Rate of development is what seperates a failed ideology, and success.

The great thing about Chinese culture is that is not secluded to Mainland. If you look in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Signapore you will see Chinese culture and values preserved - or perhaps even in large Chinese communities in other countries like Malaysia. Perhaps the Chinese could serve to do better if they took an example from any of one these societies.

Remember, a lot of the troubles which China went through as a result of the cockroaches is still happening today, not in the tourist frequented areas but in the countryside and in Tibet, people are still dying and starving to death. Okay, how about you compare the progress of China over the past 10 years as opposed to the last 30 years, you will find that nearly everything has been done in the past 15 years or so by Laiez faire capitalist reformers, not mao, who although they are modernizing the country, are creating a hell of a lot of exploitation, but then again, Mao was too.

The saddest thing about Mao is that he wasn't even communist, he just wanted to be in power. He saw that the USSR wanted a Communist party in China and were giivng out great funding so he chose Communism.. If he truly cared about the proletariat then how come he only mentioned the proletariat by name in a speech TWICE IN HIS E-N-T-I-R-E LIFE.

1st, u might mistake me for a communist and a supporter of Mao. Well i m not a communist! i m a proud and partiotic Chinese who just want the ppl to UNITE! Again The Cul' Revo was wrong, Mao by that point in hist'y has gone MAD! him and His Wife in the "4 person Committee" were obsessed with pure power & control of the country! And i hated that they BURNED books! especially history books! Cos i love history! As to the senseless killings! i feel very sorry to those that die!

Bahaha, learn some facts, Mao was MAD his entire life, the great leap forward WAS BEFORE the cultural revolution and killed FAR MORE than the cultural revolution and achieved nothing as all the iron they were making couldn't be USED AT ALL.

And there was once a point in China's history where a king starting BURNING books and slaughtered those that did agree with him ! 100 B.C about 2100 years ago! the first King who united China for the 1st time "Qing Dynasty". CHina has the tendency to make history repeat itself! but with the new approach of Soicalism in communism China, I think China can finally end the cycle of fighting ourselves and Reuniting!

Freedom? I'd better hope that they were experiencing SOME SORT OF FREEDOM since this is the 21st century, but the freedom the chinese currently seem to enjoy is the freedom that one enjoyed in the early 20th century, if not before.

Mao - The biggest monster the world has ever seen. He didn't care about the masses at ALL.. if he did then why the fuck did he kill 50+ million of them? Progress? I don't think so, the Great Leap forward cripped the nation in every way and the cultural revolution was purely for Mao to eliminate those in the party which opposed his anti-human policies.

Count yourself lucky, Hong Kong gets to elect half its legislature.. the rest of China does NOT. China is an oppressive dictatorship, you would have been better off under the Colonial brits who let Hong Kong elect 100% of it's legislature by the end of it.

The racist against chinese thing is old, The White Australia policy was repealed in the early 70's (that late!!) and you will find that only a very small percentage are still racist towards Chinese (with it being replaced by racism towards Lebanese etc..)
Furthermore China IS OPPRESSED, The Chinese people CANNOT vote for who rules the country, therefore they are oppressed, there is also no enforced freedom of the press.

How can you say you are not when ANYONE ANYWHERE can clearly see that you do not democratically elect your government and there isn't freedom of the press. If you don't regard freedom of the press and political freedom as important, then sure, you aren't oppressed.

In China 5000 yrs of history, it had never had DEMOCRacy! Because Democratic systems wouldnt work in China! I am Chnese myself, I know my people. If you give Democracy to Chinese that means you are putting a Kid in a candy store! Chinese people are smart , clever but geedy! We need control and rules! If you give Democracy to CHinese people, they will corrupt it and scam it in a blink of an eye! And in the end CIVIL war will break becuase of lust of Power and control.

look at the history of China. there has been so many civil wars and invasions in the past 5000 years! why? Yes but that wasn't about DEMOCRACY, that was about outside influence. There is not a vivid rift between the people's of China so if democracy was to come about, I don't know what you are basing the fact that there would be a civil war on. You are extremely paternalistic towards your own people and that is sad. Why would you possibly prefer being governed over by these un-elected kleptocrats? Because they can keep the peace? And a democratic government cannot BECAUSE..?

Mao united the ppl at one time! His communism approach was questionable but it worked! I am chinese & i am proud but the nature of my ppl ahh.. is that we like to fight amount ourself! The cultural Revo was wrong! But without communism at that time in history, China would have broken up into pieces. And with democracy...look at Taiwan, they fight in parliament! and thats only 23 million ppl! think about what would happen to 1.3 bill! they will not only fight in parli't but go to WAR!
