The fight is even easier if you have Power of Mist, so you can become mist for a longer time. In that way scythes pass through you and you can damage Death.

you can have good reflexes or you can try turning into mist... thast a good idea too I think

Well I have been playing for 4 hours so far and only just got to the inverted castle. That was with exploring, finding secrests, etc.
So still a ways to go, and then you can add on playing as Richter if you wish too.

Mirror Castle. First castle is easy.

Against Death, a better strategy is to fight him head on, or use the Holy Rod. He'll lose in a minute or less that way.
