My aunt was diagnosed aged 11 and my uncle aged 21. My Dad is the only one of his siblings who doesn't have diabetes. I guess the adults in our lives worked hard at helping our generation to grow up not being freaked out by it, so in a way for me it is a normal part of life for them to be checking blood sugar levels, injecting etc but it's not "normal" at all. My aunt now has a pump, which has revolutionised her life, but she still has to constantly monitor BSLs. Thanks for featuring this!

Diabetes is a disease that runs in my family. I've had to call 911 for my dad countless times because of how volatile his blood sugar is. We recently found out my 10 year old Hockey playing cousin has it as well. He can't play hockey anymore because it's too hard for him to guess how it'll affect his blood sugar.

It really is a hard thing to live with for not only the person who has it, but their friends and family too.

Thank you! I was diagnosed with T1D eight years ago, and though I do have very tight control, it still sucks. I remember when I first got diagnosed my doctor said there would be a cure in ten years. Two years to go and I'm still hoping.

My uncle was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was seventeen I think, and it really has effected him his entire life. He has to watch EVERYTHING he eats so carefully, he has to wake up in the middle of the night to give himself insulin. There have even been those scary nights where his wife couldn't wake him up.
