  • It went out with a bang... lol

  • For all those who think Spike is dead, the creator of the show even came out saying that he wasn't sure if he should kill off spike or not, so they left the ending open to public interpritation with him just collapsing on the steps.

Usually in such cases, yea, it's mostly likely assumed he's dead. But for those of you who actually watched the whole series (trying not to put in any spoilders) but hey, if he surviced "Ballad of Fallen Angels" and the tram scene in the movie, I doubt he's dead.

  • when i see this i cry and cry

  • So damn sad..Im in tears..

  • he actually didnt die. he passed out. but creator doesnt want to release anymore eps QQ

  • i cried the first time watching episode 24 and 26 because they were just so depressing...

  • Spike took a knife to the shoulder and a slash to his leg. The killer isnt vicious, its the studio for not making another season -.-

  • @IMiss2K7 - The slash to his leg could have easily severed the main artery there, nevermind the other cuts and wounds from earlier. He quite easily could have bled out by the end of the fight with Vicious. Watanabe the creator has also said that he didn't have plans for another season, later though after being asked if there'd ever be more Cowboy Bebop he said, "...maybe, someday". That was in 2006.

  • to be honest i didnt wacth the whole series ..but i saw thending on actual tv before i even knew wat it was soo.i guess its cool, the seires is awsome ,,so far :)

  • sorry guys but spike died=( if he did survive they would have shown him wake up or something=( also after that 1 girl died he had nothing left to live 4 thats 1 reson y he did what he did=(

  • @sartoriallotas5 what about his friend jet i mean i find it depressing that spike died and ed and the dog (cant remember his name) left and jet is now stuck with faye and not spike so in a way its also a sad ending to the group...

  • I really think Spike is dead and I don't think him and Faye had a thing. I didn't get those vibes. They just seemed really close but idt they were in love with each other...

  • Sorry to disagree with you, but Spike doesn;t die! NO WAY IN FRIGGING HELL, HE IS TOO AWESOME, HE IS TOO AMAZING, I DID NOT SEE HIM GET CUT IN THE SIDE. He was cut in the LEG, JUST the leg, Spike does not die!!

Jet comes in the Hammerhead, picks him up, and takes him to the hospital and you will NEVER convince me otherwise, he doesn't die!

  • Respond to this video... i loved this anime so unconditionally that i got a little too emotionally involved (if those are the correct words for it). The ending made me cry... hard. That had to be the best way to end an anime series. Bang is such an artistic last word. *weeps openly*

  • @GOthicgODdessGIRL13 Don;t cry, Spike didn;t die!! Keep telling yoursef that. Jet picked him up in the Hammerhead and took him to the hospital. He's alive and kicking. He didn't die.

  • I can't believe Spike died! I just finished the show in two days and I can't believe it. It was only one season? This show is too amazing for one season! And when does the movie take place?

  • @piercetheromans somewhere between episode 22 and 23 before the charachters part ways.

  • @piercetheromans That's because he DOESN'T die!!! Spike does NOT die, he is too awesome, too incredible and he's git a best friend!! He didn;t, Jet picked him up and took him back to the Bebop and fixed him up. He didn;t die!!

  • See ya space cowboy.... good bye cowboy bebop

    best anime ever

  • i think the guys helped spike, hes the leader right now huh?

  • Manga and anime are my passion. I just wish that Bebop would have focused more on the cool aspects of the story. Like Vicious, and more swordplay. You could say the fact that you only get to see bits and pieces of the main story, is what makes it so interesting, but I hate needless filler. I mean, did we really need Edward? She's more annoying than every character from Teen Titans combined, although Beast Boy gives her a run for her money all by himself. Yu Yu Hakusho was long but filler free.

  • @JGAMMAMILL Ed's character integrated the show with the rise of the internet era during the period this show was initially released. Ed did all the e-legwork finding good guys and villans alike. She was more proficient than Spike, Jet, Faye on the keyboard. Ed also gave t'weens and early teens a portal to develop a genuine interest in this series. Although I hope they never make a live movie of Cowboy Bebop Ed, a twenty plus personality, would be the ideal character to lead that off.

  • @Massiveminion It all comes down to personal preference, if you ask me. Edward may be significant to many, as you've noted, but I'll still be skipping through her scenes to get to the stuff that I personally prefer. I just don't find characters like her amusing. And I believe we're shit out of luck when it comes to live action versions of Bebop. I hear that one is to be made in the near future. They're also making a live action, big budget, movie for Death Note. They're going to butcher them!

  • @JGAMMAMILL Without Edward, you have a less balanced story. It'd be a dark, pure mafia story. That's why I like Bebop - maybe that's why the creator liked Bebop - because it's not just one genre, it's a new genre unto itself, taking the other genres and mashing them together to make something new. I don't consider Ed filler, sure she's silly, but heck, it wouldn't be much of "Cowboy Bebop" if it was all swordplay and Vicious (who was less interesting IMO than Vicent from the movie).

  • His death didn't affect me.

    The music didn't affect me.

Knowing the series had come to an end didn't affect me.

What really tore me was to see "Your gonna carry that weight at the end".

Seeing that, instead of "See you next time space cowboy" is what truly made me sad.

It made me realize the series was over, the main character was dead, and that it wasn't coming back.

  • @BlackenedThorn agreed

  • @BlackenedThorn wow you and me both, when i finished this a year ago, i was sad that spike was dead and i regretted the series was over , but it was that message that made me realize that...i'd experienced something rather than just watched something, that these characters were friends you wouldn't forget, and that i'm gonna carry that weight of knowledge as long as i love this anime, which coincidently will be forever

  • @BlackenedThorn No he CAN come back, cause he didn't die!!! He's unconscious, Jet came to get him, case CLOSED!

  • @BlackenedThorn I don't like to think Spike is dead. He's taken worse punishment - however, it just seems more conveniently poetic and symbolic that he die here. The creator screwed himself into corner here, making a sequel takes away the intensity of the ending; not making one leaves everyone feeling like they were cheated out of closure, yet those enlightened few enjoy the ending regardless.

  • Dude lived one hell of a life, that's for sure.

  • Spike death was never confirm by Watanabe !!! he left it open-ended, but i like to think that spike died!!! Make spike look epic

  • I tear up every time I see this ending. Cowboy Bebop has a place in my heart. Love this story - and the music <3

  • what happened to edd?

  • no matter which way you look at it spike died. one he physically died from his wounds and was at peace. or two he survived his wounds, which is also possible given the technology, but the old part of him that was living a dream and basically lived to kill vicious is dead, and he is in a sense reborn anew. either way amazing ending to and amazing show

  • the most famous last words of all time in an anime..

    "..BANG"

  • Beautiful...

  • Cowboy Bebop is meant to be dark, so I think Spike did die. But at least he went out in a blaze of badassery, which is the ultimate way to go.

  • Well technically, Spike doesn't die. Watanabe left the ending open, and wanted it to be ambiguous.

  • @MaruTheGreat, I'm making my own truth of it. Spike has survived FAR WORSE in the series than what he did here, so he obviously lived, but the Spike that was a part of Viscous HAS died. Think - he survived a how-many-stories fall from a church and a gunshot wound, as well as a sword through the chest, here, he only took a few gunshot wounds and a sword through the leg and torso.

  • @Momentum139 your points are very good, ultimately its all up to interpretation, yes he could have easily lived here, because as he fell down to die you didnt see any puddle of blood accumulating under him so he wasnt bleeding out, so it is quite possible he survived his injuries, this anime a great one just because it is so ambiguous in its ending

  • the ending serously made me cry

  • @waisodim666, what separates this from Naruto most prevalently is that it didn't take 50+ episodes of exploring a person's motives/background to make you feel sorry for them.

  • my favorite characters always die gosh

  • See you space cowboy...

  • is it true that they are making real movie fron this anime ??

  • @zerackid Yup. And yes, it will have Keanu Reeves as Spike.

  • @CinemaZebra Such a horrible choice for Spike if you ask me.

  • @USMC2b1 I'm just saddened that the movie is actually being made.. It's going to be butchered, most likely.. Like Dragonball.

  • @CinemaZebra yea right!!!

  • @CinemaZebra no way?!!! awe sicknesssszzz B)

  • @CinemaZebra That's probably the most heartbreaking fucking thing I've ever heard in my entire life.

  • @FieldswordShinobi read you mean :D

  • @TheGstein If you cut hairs for a licing then yes

  • @CinemaZebra And he's gonna have it so that Spike doesn't die. See, he's on MY side.

  • @CinemaZebra keanu reeves cant act for shit, why is he going to be in it?

  • @CinemaZebra WHAT. THE. FUCK.

KEANU =/= SPIKE. NO MOTHERFUCKING WAY. DXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

  • I recently had to say good-bye to a friend, the guy who introduced me to this excellent series and someone who I may never see again. We said our farewells and then, spur of the moment, I called out to him. He turned around as I pointed my finger toward him and said, "Bang."

I'll never forget the look on his face. Having watched the series together we shared the same feelings of happiness, sadness, emptiness and eternity. This series touched us and created something incredible for everyone.

  • @IAmTheClayman

    That's fucking awesome dude.

  • Where's your Messiah, w00t? o_O

  • @Kev95682

    Where's your messiah oot.

    Muy bien y ti cartos"

It's Yoko Kano speak, which means gibberish, which she is known for such as in the song Space Lion.

  • I was so sad that this anime ended. It was so good and I will always love it :D

  • Damnit, I hate endings like this.

  • R.I.P. Spike Spiegel

  • can someone please awnser me this-

i could have sworn spike gets killed in the end while being shot to shit by all the guards?

or am i thinking of a diff anime?

its the clip where all the gunshots are going everywhere and 'spike' is trying to shoot back but keeps getting shot then he dies in the end, could some one clarify?

  • @wierdcarrot I think that was in the movie where that happened I could be mistaken though and the scene you are talking about was spike smoking before he died?

  • @KingScorpio93

    yeah he was

  • @wierdcarrot Possibly from the first episode. Spike faked his own death in a church shootout (same church as in Session 5) in which he was riddled with bullets before setting off explosives. We never see how he got out of that, but he survived, went to escape with Julia and left when she never showed up.

  • @wierdcarrot I believe..thats Zack from FF

  • I felt the ending was missing something. Some closure with the other characters. We don't know how they would have reacted to Spike dieing or what happened to them at all. I don't think there was complete closure. Same issue with Watanabe's other anime like Samurai Champloo. His stories are too open ended. I love them both, but endings (in general) suck. Stephen King once said at the end of the Dark Tower series that the fun is in the journey, not the ending. That is why these anime are great.

  • @Verd254 You lost me at "I felt the ending was missing something".

  • @CinemaZebra

Don't bother commenting then. I gave a perfectly reasonable explanation.

  • @Verd254 Fine, I'm wasting my time here but here we go. I think it's better that we don't see their reaction. We don't need to see their reaction. It's better that "the reaction" is left to our imagination and the final scene is this one. I actually feel like this anime doesn't need any more closure than it has. It leaves you with your jaw and the floor and makes you think about life. Champloo is a different story though.

  • @CinemaZebra

Their reactions were only one part of my point. They were left completely in the dark and that is not fine for a story that is so driven by the characters. Basically, I'm trying to say that Spike is not the only character here. I liked Jet and Faye just as much and I wanted to know why happened to them. They hardly had a chance to develop throughout the series. Jet stayed a hard ass and Faye was only able to shed her diva attitude and show her emotions once at the very end.

  • @CinemaZebra

    Part 2:

If all I cared about was Spike the ending would have made my jaw drop also. But, that is not the case. The journey in Cowboy Bebop is what really made it special. The ending did not make me think about life, and it did not make me reevaluate anything. I was surprised and sad that Spike died, but when the credits rolled I felt there was still a story to tell. That is my real beef. The ending was not bad or anything. In a way I just did not want it to end.

  • @Verd254 Each to his own I suppose.

  • @Verd254 Sometimes you tell more by showing less. It makes the readers think, let their imagination take in, and picture what happened to them. It's more interesting. That is something we have to learn in writing as well.

If you show what happens/ed with every character at the end of a story, and closure it all, it doesn't leave room for much imagination of the readers, it isn't as interesting, or thoughtful. Harry Potter was an example. Why the need for the last chapter with a time skip?

  • Cowboy Bebop is one of my favorite animes ever actually it was what got me into anime that and Dragon Ball Z

  • cya in space cowboy

  • MAN, I wish edward would have made an appearance...

  • spike didn't die lol, hes saved by his comrades and wakes up covered in bandages on the ship, and the scene cuts out with him pulling the ace of spades card off his head after making the comment "you sing off key" to that one chick with purple hair, who proceeds to hit him off screen.

  • @ehodaef Wrong episode buddy.

  • @CinemaZebra LOL weaboo.

  • @ehodaef her name is fae valentine

  • @ehodaef lol, that is a different episode. this is the last and final time we ever see Spike and the crew.

  • @ehodaef Yeah I believe that episode is called The ballad of the fallen angel. One of the best anime scenes ever in that episode.

  • its kinda good when main character dies but still sad

  • i look this video everyday..

  • You're gonna carry that weight.

  • man i still get choked up at that finale

  • Beautiful song.

  • Honestly, of all the anime I have watched, none closes to Cowboy Bebop in terms of soul... I'm gonna carry that weight

  • actually its was never said if spike died or lived

  • @X360ISAIAH

his star went out, he is dead

  • what sucked is that i was getting into it.and the next day boom its over

  • 2:59 :'-(

  • Wat is the name of the ending theme song

  • @KingSenbei The Real Folk Blues.

  • @KingSenbei Blue

  • Aw man they aired this last nite on Adult Swim and I was starting to like Cowboy Bebop it's sad Julia dies and Spike dies everyone mostly freaking dies!!

  • so cool...

  • This is... what you can truly call "going out with a bang" R.I.P. Spike Spiegel, you will be missed

  • they should definetly bring this back ethier on cartoonnetwork (like adult swim or something) or maybe even hulu.

  • if they would make another series. I would want it to be when Spike was in the syndicate, before he was ever on the Bebop. The back story behind him, Julia, and Viscious

  • very bangin! lol

  • was just wondering if anyone knew if they were ever gonna start cowboy bebop again??? its such a good show but only 25 episodes!

  • Adult Swim re-airs it every now and then.

  • oh ya tanks cinema...ive been watching it but was wondering if dey have new ones like goin start da new season or someting ike dat?

  • It's possible. If anyone else but Watanabe directed it I would be against another season (mainly because it would be near-impossible to top an ending like this unless you ARE Watanabe), but if it does happen it should be pretty decent.

Oh, and, you do know a live-action movie is being made, right? With Keanu Reeves....

  • Yeah i really wish Watanabe would make another season cuz im just watching reruns on adult swim nd its awesome!!! ya ive heard bout that live-action movie...but i never seen any previews u no wen its supposed to come out??? hopefully its not like dragonball i thought it was horrible

  • That's not possible. It CAN'T be as bad as Dragonball.

  • @CinemaZebra Oh trust me it's going to be bad! They cast Keanu Reaves as Spike.

  • @MistaTwigz

Keanu has been in the dark for awhile but his best movies are the sci-fi ones. Besides, Watanabe is directly involved so it won't be that bad. It will at least be bearable. I honestly think it will be better than you think.

  • the say sometime in 2011 rumored to have keanu reeves as spike

  • I SAW THIS EWPISODE LAST NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i loved it sad ending tho! =C <3

  • @dabossboi808

Ed and Ein left.... Spike died. Unless they do something like outlaw star did with Angel Links. There isn't much of a story to go on with.

  • Ok, for all of you argueing about whether or not Spike dies, it's all about what you as an individual viewer draw from it. The creator was never certain one way or the other, which is why he chose to end it the way he did to allow the viewers to take from it what they will.

IMO, Spike lives and tries to run it the way Mao would have wanted it run before Viscious sliced and diced him.

Again, it's all about what you take from it.

  • Personally, I hate stories where you gain a great attachment to the main character out of his charm, endearing attitude, etc., and then it ends with him dying and the writers saying "lol fuck you"

  • yea i feel that way sometimes. but if u truly think about it, the character dieing or losing, makes the shows, movies, books, etc. better, in some cases. its more memorable n you appreciate it more

the author knows that if the beloved character loses. u feel for em.more emotion poors out for em than if they had won. IMO. sometimes the best endings isn't an happy ending.

i believe spike dies. so i cherish this anime more than if he had lived on.

  • lol tell the truth i dont think that english voice of spike match with him, japanese version WAAAAAAAAAY better...

IMO best anime ever, sadly its short, but i think if they had done dumb episodes like they do nowadays with naruto, bleach and other popular animes it wouldn´t be as good as it is, cowboy bebop forever!

(only thing imo they could had explored more the history line of each character, especially from spike and ed)

  • THE ENDING WHO ITS THE NAME OF eNDING?? aSSENDING??

  • @Kasse00 no,its blue

  • GREATEST ANIME EVER. It ended so gracefullly, it felt so right. I weep for the live action movie. I wish it wasn't true.

  • Rest In Peace Space Cowboy

  • anybody kno tha name of that song with the kids singing that plays right a right after spike says "bang"?

  • @DNM555

    blue

  • see ya space cowboy

  • I was sad...why'd he have to die? Kinda disappointing...but it was ok...I'm just wondering what happened to Jet, Faye, Ed, and Ein? You know?

  • the story ended...the rest is up to your imagination and dreams....space has no frontiers

thats why watanabe is such a great director.

  • Right yeah I guess so. For all we know he didn't even die...he just fell on the ground and it ended...he could've just went into comatose...

Wantanabe never said he was dead anyway...I read it on Wikipedia.

  • @oyeboy94 He's dead. It's symbolic, it allows him to rise to greater heights than when he was alive. With all due respect don't cry because he died, it's not supposed to be like that. The story as a whole is what makes it so good. Honestly if he didn't die the ened wouldn't be as good.

  • Alright, I agree...

he finally killed Vicious...so he definitely didn't die in vain.

  • @keep07 AGREED

  • One of the greatest anime characters of all time. He may have died but he lives forever.

  • holy shit

that part makes me weep like a 5 year old!!!!!

    =[[

  • so sad but so good

  • Beautifully sad...

  • Okay who put up the video response!

  • You're gonna carry that weight

  • this had to be one of tha best endings ever.

  • whats the song name?

  • The real folk blues

  • I think in terms of character names vicious should have been the name for knives in trigun and vice versa.

  • they do make a movie after this :D..cowboy bebop knockin on heavens door..and i remember him sayin about losing a love one..when he's talkin with that one girl in jail

  • The movie doesn't take place after the show. Why do you think Ed's there?

  • how do you know if he actualy dies...

  • Pls Watch:

    COWBOY BEBOP COSPLAY MOVIE

    thanks

  • I hate advertising. So very, very much.

    ...

    But good video anyway.

  • i like the ending but i dont like the ending

  • bang, the last thing spike, and tom, will ever say.

  • Beautiful, a great anime, and a great ending, Sad that he had to die. But its as amazing as a philosophical tale. True style.

    -x

  • actually, the created hinted that spike may or may not be dead. He wanted the ending to be left up to the veiwer. So if u think hes dead thats fine (i think hes dead also), but u never know

  • spike the best ever ......

  • I cried my eyes out the first time I saw this. I LOVED spike (no homo) and it's sad, yet cool how he dies.

  • wiat, what about the falling out of the wind and vicios getting blasted by a grenade?

  • Vicious...basically Sephiroth. Anime villains always rock out the white hair+katana.

  • Very true.

  • what is the song at the end called???

  • hey, he did die, but he died in a sweet way, he avenged julia's death, kileld the bad guy, and with all the anti-vicous supporters at the bottom floor spike comin' down the stairs, he just forms a gun in his hand and goes "bam..." and falls forword. thats what i call amazing death :3

  • i remember seeing this a while back i cried at the end :(

  • I saw this when I was about 10 (the ending) I cried like hell, same as Trigun :[ I always hate anime endings theres so many things left undone/said D:!

  • i alway interpreted "youre gonna carry that weight" to be sort of religious. the weight being the burden of sin.

  • Spike did die. The star that fades is Spikes. Vicious was looked at as the enemy throughout the series, so they wouldnt focus on having a star disappear for him. The star symbolizes Spike's life which was priceless, like a star.

The reason it says "You're gonna carry that weight" is because you are now carrying the weight, or emotions (sadness) of having seen the series through and having watch Spike die. Which by judging the comments that are posted, we're carrying that weight.

  • Thank you. Finally someone to prove the facts.

  • thanks for these lines ^^

  • agreed

  • ^These lines^ = Epic win ^^

  • damn

    :(

  • whats the name of the song at the end an for all you sad cats yes man spike is dead that is a good way to end it you never saw it cumin

  • Why is he dead? he didn't take any fatal injuries.. i think he just passed out or something i really dont think he just dropped dead after killing vicious and walking down all those stairs

  • Vicious through a knife into his heart area at the start of the fight, I am guessing that killed him as vicious is very skilled!

  • I'm not sure if anyone notices, but if you look carefully at the end a star disappears. I thought that was beautiful, given the context.

  • Lmao.

Never bring a knife to a gunfight.

  • i thought he dies by getting blown out of a church building??

  • Nope. That's episode 5, where he's just severly injured. This is episode 26.

  • ...good bye forever, Space Cowboy...

  • this is one of the most saddest anime endings ever...at least spike and julia can be in heaven together...T_T...why...why did you people create sad anime endings...T_T...all the suffering...

...im over it...nope still sad...why...WHY...T_T...he never did anythin wrong...his lover died...his friend died...and now...T_T...he died...

...ok NOW im over it...i just cant live well with the fact that spike is gone.

  • thanks for spoiling the series for me you no good son of a bitch
