@bundyboyno1, thanks for writing. You Tube did not notify me that you had done so. Back in the 70's I listened mostly to oldies,(60+70's),C+W ( The REAL COUNTRY MUSIC! ),but I always kept up with what was new. Somehow this song eluded me for more then 30 years !!! @nomiclas - check this out - back in 1964 there were 3 songs that I had heard on the radio - 1010 WINS N.Y.- Bobby Paris "Who Needs You" - finally got the record in 1980, Chris Crosby "Young and In Love" - finally got the record in 2008,and Bobby Marchan "You Can't Stop Her" finally got it on you tube 2011 !!! @unclebillmusic i forgot about Who Needs You.it's a really great tune i hope i can find it on u-tube.i think i've got the 45 but i haven't looked in a long time.i'll copy and paste so i can try for the other two tunes.Tks.

This song really hit home for me, going through a crazy time in my life. Best song ever, and the lyrics are perfect! "I feel a warmth in my heart And my soul that I never knew"
Thank you for posting......Had to dust off the engrams to remember this, it's been a long long ride...........Thanks for bringing a smile to a former teen.
@Chicagoclee I was gonna say the same thing until Iread your comment.I remember Johnathan Cain being in the Babys as well.I'm not sure the year either. But then of course he went on to greater things when he joined Journey in the 80's.
Love the transition of lyrics by the Girls, from "falling in love could be your mistake" to "LOSING this love could be your mistake" ... the more I study this song, the more I LUV IT !!!! DAMN !
this song reminds me of this one girl who I've had a crush on back in 1997-98 and the innocence I've had during the time I've had a crush on her, I may not have gotten to be close friends with that girl but a decade later I've had a crush on another girl and gotten to be close friends with her but sadly I didn't have the same innocence or the taste of music with the second girl like I did with the first girl
They play this song on the 70s channel on SIRIUS XM and they always end the song just right at the beginning of the girls taking over the lead vocals at the final minute of the song

This is one of my all time favorite songs !! The ending is SUPER AWESOME !! The great background singers take over the lead vocals, as The Babys provide a devastating chorus ! @alanpowell1957 So right. It was a heady time for me then. I was the first of my family in college, a long ways from home, and the world was wide open. That I'm still here and healthy sometimes amazes me.

Wow..! This song brings back memories,of being a teenager in simpler times. The younger generation dont know what they're missing.Gaga and Bieber will be a memory in a few years, but music like this endures.
@doglvr211 I wish radio (classic hits, oldies, etc.) would play more of this kind of music. Sadly, this is a song (and a band) that has 'slipped through the cracks'. @borecleaner1 Hey Bore,I was there then too.Only we were passing thru to go to PI.Had a fun time on Hotel street though.God Bless you brother thanks for serving! Peace.USN,76-84.
@Snoopy4406 I went to Hotel street a few times myself.I was an MP stationed at MCAS Kaneohe Bay.We handcuffed and otherwise shanghaied one of the sergeants in my unit and gave,or actually was going to give him the bachelor party from hell on Hotel street one fine friday night, but somebody ratted us off to his fiancee and her and her girlfriend drove down to hotel street and carved ten yards our of our collective asses, c'mon, whats wrong with a little fun ?
@borecleaner1 LOL are you serious! Talk about a kill joy.We were there for 5 days and hitched a ride on the Mount Hood.MP HUH? Cool.I stood many shore patrols with MPS.Made a better night with a marine in tow.Still had fun though. You ever make it to PI?
@Snoopy4406 Never made it to the PI.Knew quite a few folks who had spent time there. One of my best friends was a grunt with H&S Co, 2nd Bn 3rd Marine Regiment [ Comm ]. He did a few WESPAC floats though.Kinda interesting.Everytime a unit of 3rd Marines and one of the air wing squadrons woiuld go on a six month float, they would start in New Zealand,go to Australia, the PI,Okinawa and then Korea, everytime they returned from the float,we had an uptick in domestic disputes......go figure ?
@Snoopy4406 I figured the reason for the uptick in domestic disputes was that the marine or sailor who had been on the WESTPAC,dropping anchor at every dive, brothel and cheap apartment and or back alley where they could score some trim for five bucks..all of a sudden they are back ''home''and have to behave themselves.or they find out that mama san stepped out on them a time or two, doing the same thing ''they'' had done for six months, all of a sudden the specious self righteousness came out....
@borecleaner1 LOL its called the PCOD. I had more time on SP with my partner Mike who is,Was a Gunny. He was great at taking my back.I was a young pup then teamed up with a seasoned vet at this shit job shore Patrol.Hated it.He could wear his Greens and I had to wear dress whites! That sucked.Had a fun time there. The best was Thailand. Couldnt beat that.Take care brother,God Bless.
@Snoopy4406 Some parts of the MP job were pretty satisfying, like ticketing some bitch who thought she wore daddy's rank tatooed on her ass. Some parts were down right disheartening, like going to a domestic and refereeing a fight between two idiots, and having to watch the kids cry.......always the kids who get screwed over...A segeant major once told me ''We DEFEND democracy here,we don't have to PRACTICE it''. that,my friend,is the corporate culture of the US Marine Corps
Song was originally recorded by country singer-songwriter Ray Kennedy & bass guitarist Jack Conrad. The Babys did a great job with this song but Kennedy's version is also worth seeking out. That album had tons of songs worthy of being covered. It was released on Columbia Records -- so he was no hack songwriter. He's still recording today and has worked with Steve Earle. The Babys chose wisely -- John Waite knows what he's doing.
Michael Corby, You are a genius! And John Waite has a really great voice!!... You know how to find great talent Mike!! Those other guys are pretty good too! LOL!! Thank you guys for the great songs! Music SUCKS TODAY!!!!!!
@Doobie1975. Don't forget, Journey had not reached their highest success until keyboardist and songwriter Jonathan Cain left The Babys to join with Steve Perry and Neil Schon to write most of the 1982 album Escape, which is still Journey's best-selling material.
Wow... Forgot all about this song. Heard it on a radio show today and remembered the group and title... Glad it's on youtube. Thanks to the OP. Takes me back. Been a looooooooooong time now. What 34 years already... shit I'm old :(
@Skubishack Damn, you're right. Where does the time go? Weren't they just on Bert Sugerman's "Midnight Special" this past weekend, playing their new hit. I feel like Rip Van Winkle.
I heard this on the radio 2 days ago as a I drive into work, I've now lost count of the of the times I've listened to it since. No one writes songs like this these days.
Come on people, best song ever???be serious, how come evry u-tube song has at least one coment sayin "this is the best song ever" its allright but NOT BEST SONG EVER ....think about it.
@JEFFINCTOWN Chill, Jeff. You are taking things too literally. It's like eating a steak and saying it was the best steak I ever had. Or laying some woman and saying that was the best piece of A** I ever had...Figure of speech mostly...are u like 10 years old?
What is odd about the Babys is that even though they are from Britain, they were not as successful in the home country as in America. This is not an isolated phenomenon, as Peter Frampton was in a similar way virtually unknown too around the same time Britain.
Back when I was 14 I remember this album in teen magazines, even though I didn't own it, I was too into KISS at the time ( 1977-1979 I remember when this album was in teen magazines, I was only 14!!! I WAS A TRUE 70'S CHILD!!!!!
the Baby's are former lumberjacks. ..In fact , 2 of the band ( the bass player and drummer), have gone back to thier former profession. I read this on Wikipedia.
can not believe that this classic only peaked at 42 in the Brittish charts- a joke that this brilliant record was not recognised in the same way it was in the USA
This music brings me back to a simple time. I was a young adult in a cover band, playing this music in Wildwood NJ!!!! The clubs were packed , the drinking age was 18, and the music was LOUD...lol good times good times. Oh well, back to middle age... : (
@5FT1IN funny you said that, this song reminds me of a girl from Wildwood (North actually). I was in her house, looking through her music, she had this Babys album. Made her play this song. She lived there actually. Kelly W.
@5FT1IN Nothing is more capable than music to remind you of earlier times, this takes me right back to the 70's. Great music, but amazingly shocking clothes sense. I'd gladly take a day in the late 70's or early 80's
@5FT1IN I think I know what you're into man. I'm playing 70's classics too, I am 17 and the drinking age is 16. I sometimes wish I was born 40 years ago.
Head First is a great Opus... It has not received it's true place in Rock N Roll history. If John was really smart he would get back together with the Babys
The real answer to the question why they never made it as big as those other bands listed is :::: MIchael Corby IS the Baby's!! It is that simple. When he left, the band ceased to be!
doobie 1975,in response to youre request on an answer why this band wasnt as successful, simple the others were a live setting act, while waite and company were a studio act, pure and simple!!!!!!
Great tune. I actually heard this song for the very first time as a teenager the exact same day that I made out with a girl for the first time. Everytime I hear this song now it reminds me of that historic "first kiss."
critique this song however you fucking want - simply put it's a rock 'n roll classic on the highest, hard hitting level and it jams! why else would you have searched for it ?!
dowcushmanclark, I have seen these kind of record's made all the time. I was in the biz for 30 yr's. This sound's like a classic NY style record,String player's and arrangment ,Most likely Drum's and bass were the band, and the writer was the keyboard player,But of course in NY there was a great pool of musician's to choose
from and they all could have been studio musician's, but it sound's like what I said
Loved this song since late '77 ... never hear it enough. This band was supposed to become the next Bay City Rollers - silly, but true.
I remember when Mike Corby left the band for his own career, then pretty much disappeared - wonder whatever happened to him? Didn't he become an antique car dealer or whatever?
This song reminds me of a beuatiful girl I dated.. The songs warns you of the pit falls of falling in love with the right person at the wrong time. I wish I had waited to create life with such a beautiful person. Carleen I miss you.
@unclebillmusic bill like yourself it took me about 15 years of searching to find the group and the name of this classic

@Snoopy4406 I went to Hotel street a few times myself.I was an MP stationed at MCAS Kaneohe Bay.We handcuffed and otherwise shanghaied one of the sergeants in my unit and gave,or actually was going to give him the bachelor party from hell on Hotel street one fine friday night, but somebody ratted us off to his fiancee and her and her girlfriend drove down to hotel street and carved ten yards our of our collective asses, c'mon, whats wrong with a little fun ?
borecleaner1 9 months ago
@borecleaner1 LOL are you serious! Talk about a kill joy.We were there for 5 days and hitched a ride on the Mount Hood.MP HUH? Cool.I stood many shore patrols with MPS.Made a better night with a marine in tow.Still had fun though. You ever make it to PI?
Snoopy4406 9 months ago
@Snoopy4406 Never made it to the PI.Knew quite a few folks who had spent time there. One of my best friends was a grunt with H&S Co, 2nd Bn 3rd Marine Regiment [ Comm ]. He did a few WESPAC floats though.Kinda interesting.Everytime a unit of 3rd Marines and one of the air wing squadrons woiuld go on a six month float, they would start in New Zealand,go to Australia, the PI,Okinawa and then Korea, everytime they returned from the float,we had an uptick in domestic disputes......go figure ?
borecleaner1 9 months ago
@Snoopy4406 I figured the reason for the uptick in domestic disputes was that the marine or sailor who had been on the WESTPAC,dropping anchor at every dive, brothel and cheap apartment and or back alley where they could score some trim for five bucks..all of a sudden they are back ''home''and have to behave themselves.or they find out that mama san stepped out on them a time or two, doing the same thing ''they'' had done for six months, all of a sudden the specious self righteousness came out....
borecleaner1 9 months ago
@borecleaner1 LOL its called the PCOD. I had more time on SP with my partner Mike who is,Was a Gunny. He was great at taking my back.I was a young pup then teamed up with a seasoned vet at this shit job shore Patrol.Hated it.He could wear his Greens and I had to wear dress whites! That sucked.Had a fun time there. The best was Thailand. Couldnt beat that.Take care brother,God Bless.
Snoopy4406 9 months ago
@Snoopy4406 Some parts of the MP job were pretty satisfying, like ticketing some bitch who thought she wore daddy's rank tatooed on her ass. Some parts were down right disheartening, like going to a domestic and refereeing a fight between two idiots, and having to watch the kids cry.......always the kids who get screwed over...A segeant major once told me ''We DEFEND democracy here,we don't have to PRACTICE it''. that,my friend,is the corporate culture of the US Marine Corps

Amazing song.

@Doobie1975. Don't forget, Journey had not reached their highest success until keyboardist and songwriter Jonathan Cain left The Babys to join with Steve Perry and Neil Schon to write most of the 1982 album Escape, which is still Journey's best-selling material.

This music brings me back to a simple time. I was a young adult in a cover band, playing this music in Wildwood NJ!!!! The clubs were packed , the drinking age was 18, and the music was LOUD...lol good times good times. Oh well, back to middle age... : (
5FT1IN 1 year ago 18
@5FT1IN funny you said that, this song reminds me of a girl from Wildwood (North actually). I was in her house, looking through her music, she had this Babys album. Made her play this song. She lived there actually. Kelly W.

@5FT1IN Nothing is more capable than music to remind you of earlier times, this takes me right back to the 70's. Great music, but amazingly shocking clothes sense. I'd gladly take a day in the late 70's or early 80's
webglider1962 7 months ago 2

@5FT1IN I think I know what you're into man. I'm playing 70's classics too, I am 17 and the drinking age is 16. I sometimes wish I was born 40 years ago.

The real answer to the question why they never made it as big as those other bands listed is :::: MIchael Corby IS the Baby's!! It is that simple. When he left, the band ceased to be!

dowcushmanclark, I have seen these kind of record's made all the time. I was in the biz for 30 yr's. This sound's like a classic NY style record,String player's and arrangment ,Most likely Drum's and bass were the band, and the writer was the keyboard player,But of course in NY there was a great pool of musician's to choose
from and they all could have been studio musician's, but it sound's like what I said
the part's are not that polished.
