  • @DarylJCheetham and @CrAzYpOtHeAd420time.

My comment wasn't about the word "paki" but the phrase that "being born in a stable doesn't make him a Donkey", a comment used to imply that ethnic minorities cannot be classed as English just because they're born in England. This can easily be interpreted as racist as in "you can never be one of us". So saying you're not racist whilst using that phrase is ironic.

Also, I think you'll find the correct term for someone from Pakistan is "Pakistani".

  • ,of course paki is offensive, its been used that way for decades& deliberately as a insult, the word niger is usually meant offensively unless used by people from africa, everyone knows its a insult despite its links to the country nigeria, shouldnt we really be discussing our increasingly cyborg society tbh, earthlings?

  • omg i'm 12 and love this song!

  • cymru am byth

  • @MrBiggiebri baa

  • love this song and great job on the vid. :)

  • @tribetng

Eh? I think you'll find it was built in the Neolithic (pre-bronze age!).

Also it is in England and I think it's been here long enough to be accepted as English. I also have difficulty thinking of many groups who could be classed as more "English " than the celts. By that line of argument you could say that nothing man-made in England is English since we're all from Africa anyway.

  • @tribetng troll is obvious

  • i aint a racist,, just cos i love this song,,,,, same as a paki aint born a donkey just cos it is born in a stable

  • @county1974

I hope you realise the irony of your comment!

And anyway this is a song about patriotism. I'm sorry that I included the multinational reference in the video, but consider it more about people creating conflict over multinationalism, rather than being proud of our country as it is, accepting others (yes, we could do better, but we could do far, far worse!).

  • @axorozzas

Why is it ironic? Because he said paki?

    lol

  • @axorozzas Calling a paki a paki isnt racist. Pakistan translated into english means "Land of the Paki's" just like afghanistan is "Land of the afghans"

  • ich dien ....

  • theres nothing wrong with being proud of where you come from, i am. but it doesn't mean you can look down on other classes or people from different countries. good tune though.

  • i'm proud to call myself a Brit & would rather be a Brit then anything else but does not mean i am responsible for any of the shite "my Government" is responsible for cause the brit government could not give a shite about the british people so anybody who wants to bash britain needs to understand this. Britain is made up of 2 groups

Ruling Class = Fucking scumbags who are responsible for the nasty shit Britain does.

Rest of us = Nice, friendly and helpful not responsible for the pricks above

  • @seaniekay Its nice to see a comment about Patriotism without it mentioning that another country is inferior =)

  • @JihadJoeC4 thank you

  • @thepiratepaul England would grind to a halt if all of our posties and coppers and firemen gave up.

If you brainless pricks all died at once out in the war, we'd be sad for a while, but we'd not fucking stop.

Don't fool yourself with your pathetic training regimes, it doesn't make you special. You're just one of the ants that makes the nest seem flashy at a distance.

  • Some people say it´s too patriotic, or anythiing alike, but let me say one thing, I'm brazilian, I was born down at the south of the country, were the gaucho culture is stronger than anything else, and we are trully pround of it. we respect all other cultures, but we are just proud of our own, just like The Levellers are and so they sing.

England is their home, it is a great place, so what is the f*** to shout how they like it and how they wish it to be better?

  • cheer up everybody! it could be worse, you could live here in America

  • @ThatsMrProducer2u "Roots forgotten, that's what we all say. What does it matter? You're the USA."

  • @aliencheesemaker trust me you're not.

  • Why is it England, I feel like rubbish on your streets?

  • I am proud to be English. Its my home !!!

  • that didjeridoo-guy that comes on stage halfway through the concert is genial

  • good vid

  • I served my county, I then went to uni..I now help kids all over the world get an education. That is serving your county and humanity. Reading many of the comments below makes me sick and almost sad to be English. For the love of what ever God you believe in understand this: Nothing you earn or collect in life will be more important than the gift of freedom, knowledge or life you give to another human being.

I like to think that that is what being English, British or Human is all about.

  • I miss Home... But it was good to see my home county of Cornwall represented in this video... Good work

  • That one dislike was obviously a failed asylum seeker!

  • @PhuriousStyles

lol. Actually I think it was the American who asked why we hate them so much.

  • @PhuriousStyles You clearly have no idea what the Levellers are all about.

  • @benallen9 You clearly have no sense of humor.

  • @benallen9 Anti everything renta-cause unpatriotic Anarchists?..(but one fucking top band thats for sure!)

  • chill dammit , expat here tinkin bout goin home ! had enough oftha outside shit ! time i went home ,, peace ! thnx lvlrz,, see ya down tha pub in brighton ;)

  • Wake up England.

  • does anyone else sort of think that the Lev's lost something after the LTL album? that, green blade rising and AWCTW just seem so much more honest somehow. I don't know, maybe its just cos those are the albums I grew up with. Still, love them to bits, one of my top bands, alongside New Model Army, Rev Hammer, The Men They Couldn't Hang etc. Thanks for posting

  • Whoever put the 1 dislike on this video is a twat.

  • 1:21 is Wales isnt it ? sorry

  • England has been going through a hard time for the last ten or twenty years, and we have seen a lot of out englishness destroyed ( or rather suppressed). But england is still the best country in the world. We are still the last beacon of decency and true freedom in the world. Yes we may be going through a hard period at the moment, but so do all countries. We will bounce back.

  • @brieflycake

Thats the spirit. England is far from broken.

  • @m52spy thanks :)

  • @brieflycake Shut the fuck up. England is in its fuck "the last beacon of decency and true freedom in the world".

  • @brieflycake Shut the fuck up.

  • @the2dude123 Whats your problem?

  • Thanks for posing, not heard in ages....

  • @thepiratepaul oi you little cunt, do us all a favour and go and get yourself killed in some war!!! if you're to dumb to understand that there's no "right" war, your life is worth sacrificing!!! get a life, get a job and grow a pair you twat!!!

  • @thepiratepaul no disrespect hun i respect every man that has gone off to fight whether it be army navy airforce etc. In my family most have been navy and airforce and most have died for their beliefs but they would still be here if they had said NO. War will always be here while people sign on that dotted line and most of these people are people that don't want war its all down to their government.

  • The only good thing about the Thatcher era was that it caused some damn fine music to be written.

  • @thepiratepaul presuming your a soldier then? You get paid to shoot bullets at human beings? That's messed up, why would you do that? Your not defending loved ones or fighting off foreign invaders you are taking a monthly salary to shoot people.

  • Great song but just a word for profoundly pro-english folks; unfortunately England is also the home of women who piss on, and suck guys off on, war memorials.

  • PROUD TO BE ENGLISH , and fuck the anti - English !!!!

  • @cchallenger3985 Typical attitude. Fuck everyone who doesn't like me. Why don't you rise above the hatred, you fuck.

  • By far the best Youtube offering.

  • Some of the pictures in this video look beautiful. I like how i recognise alot of the places even though i live in the city.

The fish and chip picture made me laugh... even though it's a common british seaside dish... the idea of battered fish isn't a british dish... comes from Holland if i remember correctly.

  • War exists because our 'leaders' want it; they get off on it; they profit from it. War will end when nobody wants it anymore. It is Not inevitable.

  • You knew the risks when you took the job after all your not a fool ?

  • @timmythegreenmeanie

Not really. I would say all men and women who died in conflicts were worth more thatn that. War is not worth the people who die for it.

  • @axorozzas war is wrong i agree, but to say that people who have died for what they believe in is wrong is not good i would die for the things i believe in and i think it would be worth it and so would all the people that have died for their causes. alas war no matter what we do is always going to be here in some shape or form until the day we all unite and fight against it and unless we do we will always be fighting this argument.

  • @axorozzas Surely that depends on the war? Haven't you seen independence day??

  • great choice of photos to music, well done Axorozzas

  • pps @ Piratepaul...INFANTRY, 30 YEARSTRIGGER TIME BETWEEN US, FATHER AND SON

  • ps, Ive served my country, and so did my Father, who now rots in a dementia carehome with no money whatsoever spent on his treatment, because he is a resident not a patient. This Government have even just cut funding for home carers, now that really is sick. England will rise up, Civil War 2, the Roundheads are coming.

  • @caravanfisherman69 i hope england will one day rise up . they should take a leaf out of egypt,s book and grow a pair , its no good a few of us trying we need to be there in numbers " what ever happened to my green and plesent land "

  • @thepiratepaul Why bring back conscription though? Surely forcing people to sign up goes against your argument, as conscripts would be fighting because they had no other choice.

Besides, you will find it hard to win any argument on an intellectual level if you resort to calling those who dont agree with you 'cunts' who 'spout piss'.

  • the lyrics are more true now than ever

  • To the pirate paul - if you have stood up for country and fought I salute you and respect you. But you must understand there are many different levels of interaction between the population and government - its called freedom of expression, and therefore surely one of the rights you are fighting for. I'm ex naval myself, and there are many different kinds of people I've met out in the real world. Live and let live, and support the underdog.

  • The Levellers are quite literally the best band ever. Sorry to sound so blunt with Alliteration probably not even speal right which some of you sad acts will pick up on but come on! for fuck sake! The Levellers are a fantastic band full stop. Let's appreciate good music compared to the amount of shit that goes about these days. Let's be fair. Unexplainable. Decent. Fucking. Music.

  • I dont think they are a patriotic band..so called political bands aint normally..I cant be arsed with the ins, outs rights and wrongs of the lyrics..Im not interested in 'rent a cause' music ..however I gotta say...they are a fantastic band.

  • @thepiratepaul

Are you callling the levellers 'posh'?

Hahaha! None of our recent conflicts are worth it, they are for oil, not for our country.

Your obviously not a fan of the levs or you would've heard "The ballad of Robbie Jones", "another Man's cause" or their cover of"English Civil war"

    War is not Glory.

  • I'm defintitely agreeing with the comments on show of hands! Another band I love. Like the levs they have immensely powerful lyrics, but also a certain level of technical brilliance which the Levs lack.

But I like them being rough around the edges. It's what gives them soul. They are a protest group anyway.

Anyway some great discussion going on here : )

  • lame for the lame minded, worth fighting for, for others

  • Its only bands like the LEVELLERS and EARTH CULTURE that really have anything to say in music these days.

  • And SHOW OF HANDS..

  • There are some more bands that have something to say

  • Nice video. Great song by a great band. : )

  • fantastic song and video

  • lets go f....king mentall

  • you are a c...k fu..k ..............

  • @megabotham

The English have lost their heritage, no of us know where we came from, not one can name an English folk song, search the Internet, look at the music stores, you'll find not one English folk band there. It's become a taboo to want to listen to it, it's become racist to want to fly the St. George. Thats the rubbish, since when is it racist to celebrate your heritage, thousands of Englishmen have died on battlefields to give us that heritage, I for one intend to celebrate it.

  • @WebmasterWannabe -try show of hands for a classic british political folk group....cousin jack is a brilliant song lyrically and musically, English roots music is very much alive and kicking, modern day poetry.....we want our culture back, and our country!

  • @Davedemocrat your right.....I've recently bought a couple of their cds and they are amazing.

  • Awesome video!

When i was 14 I had to disect poetry for my GCSE's - I didn't like the poetry they gave me so I chose to disect this song instead - was wicked!

  • You know, I'm doing poetry now, and completely agree with you there. Levellers songs are powerful poetry!

given the choice I'd do the same.

  • Wonderful, powerful song, love the Levellers since the early 90`s and see them today in Bochum/Germany.

    Cu.

  • far play good back round to go with this song ...

  • by way of contrast...love this band!!!

  • 0:27 socialist party! woop!

  • BGGGVrrrrrruuuu

  • "Oh, what happened to my green and pleasant land?"

    Fantastic song.

    English Morris man and proud!

  • just goes to show you can have pride in your country without being a hate-fuelled, daily mail reading right wing racist arsehole

  • Well said. Billy Bragg has had a lot to say about this.

  • You won't find the Daily Mail doing anything to support England. It's Brishit establishment to the core.

    Home rule for England.

  • Class

  • What's that supposed to mean?

  • and chips

  • pish!!!!!

  • Thanx for the ,er, lesson axorozzas, i do know what the song is about, i gave it a slight twist to suit my point to a comment made ,( what a "Liberty" i hear). I did find it amusing to see a pint of courage best (yuk !) and fish and chips in your video, glad you left the monarchy out ! London yesterday, G20 protest, rise up folks its YOUR land and planet, not theirs.

  • lol thanks for that. It was the best picture of a pint I could find. I tried to get rid of the logo but hey.

  • yea well said mate, I was at the G20 protest as well.

I consider myself to be very left wing but im not anti-nationalism as such. if anything I think we should be trying to reclaim national pride rather than reject it completely. Having pride in your country and national identity has nothing to do with being superior to other cultures or hating immigrants, its about celebrating who we are as a people

  • I agree, there is much to be proud of being english, and there are things its goverment, royalty get up to in the name of OUR country that make me embarressed to be in it ! Waves of cultures and people from europe over time have made what it is to be english. As long as we know where we came from we will allways know where we are going.

  • Incidentally I had a comment from an angry American. But I just deleted it because he was clearly beyond repair.

  • Andrewbond what is this democracy in England you seem to imagine exists ? "you cut your own throat then you let it bleed , misleading the people from what WE all need", sums up england today i think.

  • Actually that parts about America lol. Cos afterwards it says "But what does it matter? You're the USA!" .It actually says "misleading OUR people" saying that America misleads britain. For example, in joining the war in Iraq (hence the pictures I chose)

"You cut your own throat" may refer to the declaration of independance (Also in the picture though not particularly clear)

Sorry to be so analytical but you see what I'm getting at . and thanks for the previous comment ( :

  • To be honest, even as a 17 year old, I would have to agree with you for the most part. A lot of us do complain about what the governments doing but few take action. It annoys me how much complete shit is in the charts, and that's partly why I like the Levs. They dont care how popular they are, they play for enjoyment and to get their increasingly relevant messages across in style! If they get more fans Great! but they will always have a huge devoted fan base no matter how many awards they win.

  • As Nietzsche said, " The surest way to corrupt a youth is to hold in esteem those who think the same rather than those who think differently", keep playing the Levs my friend, your on the right path.

  • i aggree. there is so much shit (rap, hiphop, etc. ) in the charts and its all about killing people and shit.

what i love about the levellers is that they give a message without telling people what to do, rather just advising them what wil happen if they do something.

  • The younger generation seem to care more for fighting each other than looking for real world enemies. If musical attitudes reflect youth culture i.e. hippies rose at a time of growing hostillities, and punk when this country was in a grip of apathy, then apart the likes of the Levs, ( in the 90s) the youth of now seem to me the most unamaginative, musically ignorant generation who couldnt give a fig what this goverment and royalty get up to in there name.

  • I am now nearly 40 and still find the fighting spirit wonderful. What is it the youth are now fighting for; because it doesn't seem to be the same aims, if anything at all.

  • Don't worry mate. From my experience the youth are still fighting the same battles (and more). We just don't see it as much because we're a little long in the tooth!

  • wow. you really have no idea do you.

don't get me wrong that'd be great.

    but we don't have that.

what we have is a mess of political and cultural infighting and possibly an oncoming civil war with the European Union.

We have everything to prove if we want to make England a great place to live once more.

  • Great pictures. Captures so many parts of the great country. I miss hertfordshire.

  • I live in hertfordshire (= and thanks for the comment they are all great!

  • too right andrewrbond!

  • nice theme

  • great
