whatever happened to kobrin? does he have a record deal? does he still tour? last time i saw him was in a smaller venue after his cliburn victory at the ravinia bennett-gordon hall "rising stars" series. he is an amazing talent.
If Youtube make more attention to the Classical music audiences, takes care of sequences of the videos (not offerring hap-hazard sequences), offers classical videos to buy (I have hard time to buy videos-even amazon doesn't carry any) and finally hires somebody to know a bit about the classical music, especially more recent composer: Rachmaninov, Prokofiev, Korsakov..., we might have a better days watching youtube!
@concertpianist88 now he's one of the highest paid professors at The Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University, Columbus, Georgia. i see him here all the time.
Don't know the conductor, but this fellow got one OUTSTANDING job out of this young orchestra . . . excellent phrasing throughout the piece. This is no "generic job" here folks. Outstanding performance by the pianist . . . but it is truly the orchestra that provides the "upside surprise" here.
This is magnificent. It seems somehow fitting that an orchestra of children would do such a splendid job with Prokofiev, considering his longtime reputation as the 'enfant terrible' of Russian music. Interesting how much the soloist seems to concede to the conductor...
Prokofiev's first piano concerto was actually written while he was still studying in the St. Petersburg Conservatory, and was described by Prokofiev himself as one where the orchestration was very well composed, with only a mediocre solo part. So the soloist's concession could very well be because of the composer's desire of a strict solo performance, with the conductor being the real leader instead of the soloist. But the main reason is most probably because it is a youth symphony orchestra.
A passionate performance - really brings out the music

Don't like the interpretation or pianist personally - however - still a mighty performance.

The piece as a whole is so resonant, it's incredible.
