i hope bethany has a happy life. and i get in the water now because of her. i used to be afraid of what was under the water because no one knows whats under the water, well she insprired me and she keeps her faith in her thanks bethany for still believing.

Morr4y: hi!! i just wanted to comment your comment ^^. I think, that who we are, and what we are has a lot to do with God, I dance ballet, and i always do it for him, it is also a way to feel connected with him...but its just my point of view, but i agree...not every person does it for God

I love the girl, and think she's being a really bright light in the world. I hope somebody challenges her on this point because it is important - it is for any christian because any very visible compromise will always hurt our witness. But she's an incredibly brave girl in what realisticly, is a pretty grotty culture, and she's put a lot out there to risk the slander and contempt of a lot of people in it for her faith. If she's doing something that sets a bad example then just pray for her.

PS. And in case you don't respond - surfing is just a sport. I don't like the fact that she wears bikini's, especially (if she does it) in muslim or other countries with higher standards then the west on modesty. It sets a bad example which would hurt her witness, one arm or no. But then most christian women excuse them. Does it make it right? No. But she's sacrificing a lot to put her testimony out there the way she has. Compromise always hurts our witness, but is she even aware of this point?

but surfing is not just a sport. its a way of life. if you dont surf then you wont understand that. and im not trying to be rude, please understand that, but a bikini is a bikini. all surfer girls wear them. even those who dont. what is bethany suppose to wear when she surfs? it covers what it needs to and shows whats allowed.

plenty of girls wear boardies and a rashie or t-shirt when they surf. You don't have to wear a bikini. A bikini will cover the same amount as your underwear and bra. If she wore that she'd be arrested. But when it's in lycra for some reason in our culture that's 'normal'.

However it isn't modest. Prostitutes wear micro skirts and plungin necklines (which incidently is still covering more then a bikini.) That's legal as well. Modest? No.

As christians, we're called to be an example.

You honor Him with your talents. Praise Him when you surf well and ask wisdom and comfort when you don't

People often say that but I don't agree. I don't see the talents that people ascribe to God anywhere in the bible. I do see listed as talents, pastors, elders, evangelism, helps, etc. to further the ministry but nowhere do I see surfing, rapping, football, basketball or anything like that. I don't see where God is honored by anything that we do, as a matter of fact our works are as filthy rags. I think we honor God when we do as He says.

It says our righteousness is as filthy rags, not our works. We can't earn our salvation but if our talents and abilities arn't from God - then who are they from? If we honour God with whatever we have, then we're being faithful servants. That could be natural ability, our career or possessions such as money. Bethany uses her surfing to be a christian voice and example in the surfing community. That's using your talent to honour God.

Nope. But please explain how you think bethany is dishonouring God by being a surfer?

I don't believe that she is dishonoring God by being a surfer. I just don't feel that she is honoring him with her surfing skill. She is honoring him by using her opportunities to praise His name, but in my opinion her surfing ability has nothing to do with God. What about those who surf better and have nothing to do with God, where does their skill come from<

oh ok, thanks for replying. I think the expression is used to mean, you're using whatever gifts you have for Gods service instead of your own. So bethanys surfing gives her a platform to share her faith on. Instead of just surfing to make money and saying nothing about God that could cause her discomfort or being discredited - she chooses to be open about her faith and use the opportunities the surfing gives her to share the gospel and be a light.
