I just got a pair of REAL German kampfstiefel 2005 boots, and man they are the best! The swedish M90 boots is nothing compared to these but Finnish combat boot m05 is very good to, but a bit expensive
go to bunny boots.com, they are by far the warmest boot you will ever wear.. most trappers and outfitters I know up in the NWT and Yukon wear these boots..
I just found a pair of Rocky Bearclaws 1000 gram Insulation at a thrift store for $9.99 US. Here in MN at -29 the other day my feet were on fire with just cotton socks, by far better than anything I wore in the US Army!
Excellent Breakdown Chad. I've seem those military mukluks around but can never find them in my size. Good to know about the Cdn Cold/Wet weather boot I've been looking into a pair of those but not sure now. Thanks
and what about rubber boots with lots of socks as a cheap alternative, would that work too maybe? just bought a pair, not for long cold weather adventures but for day trips and maybe sleepovers in very rainy conditions
The best boots I used in the military (US Army recon) where Matterhorns. Light weight warm in below 0 condition, and rugged. I think they sell for around $150 now. They made our cold weather survival training a little more comfortable. BTW if you are not alone in a snowy, windy situation, and you do not have shelter, piling up a snow cave is a great way to, at a minimum, keep the wind chill effect off you. We trained with special units from Cananda, UK, and other allies.
Hey man ive watched a few of your videos and youre doing a great job keep it up, alright so i wanted to ask if you know of any sites or things like that where i could actually buy mukluks like the lightweight ones you showed or to buy patterns for them if id be better off just making some of my own??
@envirosponsible Oh thats awesome hope that works out bro, by the way after i watched this video i searched a few things on google and i found a few sites that offer different kinds of mukluks and one that caught my attention the most was this steger mukluks company because they looked real traditional, let me know if youd be interested in checking the site out, take care man and keep on trekkin.
What, no Sorels? I have some summer mocs that I made and I had considered making a pair of winter moccasins around some inserts, but you didn't seem to have any luck with yours. What kind of liner did you use and what temp were they rated to? Thanks.
There is always a weight penalty with military gear in general. That is usually offset by cost (used surplus) and durability. I have a set of those Canadian forces arctic mukluks and made my own liners for them. I don't find them to be any heavier than the Columbia winter boots that I used to have. Which boots did you wear the most on your trip?
Excellent video!!! Great review and commentary. I have two pair of those Luke Skywalker specials. Ya, they are heavy to wear but will always be a part of my kit. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
