Speaking of "Panama", David Lee Roth said on his radio program that Van Halen would listen to old records and copy the chord progressions. Dave then played an old AC/DC song back to back with Panama. Harmonically they were the same! Dave's highly musically educated guitarist, Brian Young, was blown away. Brian even commented on the solos being exactly the same harmonically. Dave also claimed the idea for the stripes was his idea and the paint came from his basement.

You know as much as I don't really care for John's music. He is one hell of a player when he wants to be. like when he plays the blue and what not.

but you can just tell he is a big EVH fan. the way he was jumpin and moving around in this video is much like Ed does.

Plus the $30,000 guitar shows that he likes Ed too. not that he can't afford it, but that's still a lot of money for a guitar.

Off the bat, I am a huge Eddie Fan. With the Frankie, how much of the guitar is production cost and how much is marketing. I mean the guitar is pristeen and doesn't have any varnish on the neck, opting for the user to apply their own body oil over time. But SRV's guitar has been pulled apart and and tested and then authentically replicated. I would think a lot more goes into building a Lenny than a Frankie. I think there is a bit too much marketing going on.

Well Fender did the same thing with the Frankie replica. At least that's what they SAY.

They took apart Ed's original and took measurements. And they "authentically" replicated it.

HOWEVER, because I know some very skilled guitar builders. They have told me that the body isn't an EXACT replica. It's just a Fender strat body. And the paint job on EACH replica varies with each one.

So it's not EXACT.

Of course it's marketing. But the replica is HARDLY pristine. IT's beaten up.
