  • had to listen to this in music history.. ugh lol

  • Beautiful!

  • merci. Trés sympa;

  • I love this composition. Is there a long version to this?

  • No just an extract

  • y el resto de la misa?

  • magnifique, des prez, machaut et dufay ..

  • I have LP ARS NOVA Clemencic , Consort,- Berckley chamber Singers which contains also Missa Ave regina Coelorum - Missa Caput et Missa l'homme armè...

  • The performance is by the Oxford Camerata, I have the CD at home.

But I agree with mrischay, Hilliard Ensemble's recording is absolutely superb, but unfortunately not available, I would also like to buy it.

  • thanks for the RAR.find!!

  • what beautiful music. goes straight to the heart

  • so mysterious, I love it!

  • Great! Please tell me which ensemble has sung this performance!

  • The combination of the Medieval and the Renaissance is made perfect with DuFay.

  • thank you for making this clear.:) I'm now studying music history and found myself confused with the generations of renaissance.

  • @britandveg : "ars perfecta" they said : true !

  • is that really from the missa l'homme armé ? Because, i can't find the cantus firmus

  • Yes I confirm

  • @lelutindecouves Yes, in the tenor line, although the tenor is taci for a large portion of this movement.

  • @lelutindecouves They're singing Kyrie Eleison.. Not really the lyrics of L'Homme Armée, do you think..?

  • @GCLtubes : " A parody mass is a musical setting of the mass, typically from the 16th century, that uses multiple voices of another pre-existing piece of music, such as a fragment of a motet or a secular chanson, as part of its melodic material." (Wikipedia)

OK, i'ts a Kyrie but the music is inspired by the song "L'homme armé"

It's the same with for example for masses with the song "Suzanne un jour" .

  • @lelutindecouves The cantus firmus is in the tenor, the melody is augmented, but in the fourth measure (starting on a G I think, at least that's what I hear here.) it comes in for sure.

  • L'homme armé is a Kyrie chant

  • I wish this composition were longer.

  • Does anyone know where can i find it?

  • Hi, I know 2 versions of this. One is a Naxos recording, Naxos 8.553087. However, my preferred one is with Johannes Hoemberg and Akademia Pro Musika Koeln, which was on LP, and I could only find the Kyrie, Gloria and Credo on CD. This is "The Great History of Belgian and Dutch Classical Music"CRG-1170, Columbia River Entertainment Group.

  • The best recording, in my humble, was by The Hilliard Ensemble and, sadly, is out of print. I look for it every few months but have had no luck. You can find recordings by Oxford Camerata

  • Magnifique musique...

  • There was an lp of this that came out in the late 70s recorded in 4 channel stereo, which was going to be the Ultimate in recorded sound. And then the cd came on the scene and that was the end of lps and 4 channel stereo.

  • Beautiful!

  • I love this song by Dufay. However this is the only good tape on youtube ... I know an other one, also a better one but I could not find it =(

  • I would suggest the Pierre De La Rue version

which you can not find on youtube.

  • This is only a third of this magnificent Kyrie! And the whole Mass is a masterpiece!

  • This is beautiful; I'm glad I could find it on YouTube. I'd love to be at a Mass where this version of the Kyrie was sang by the choir!

  • So beautiful! The tenors here are excellent at doing the "wall of sound" needed from tenor cantus firmus.

BTW if you read the music to the last movement, you'll find that at one point the tenors are singing L'Homme Arme backwards!

  • are you kidding me??! you can barely even pick out the cantus firmus!

  • what is the genre of this work?

  • It's Polyphonie Franco-Flamande (French-Flemish polyphony) of the Renaissance. Dufay is a pioneer of this genre. Listen : Josquin Desprez, Roland de Lassus (Orlando di Lasso), Jean Ockeghem etc...

  • thxs!

  • Who are the singers? thank you for uploading it!!

  • Oxford Camerata (naxos)

  • It's a Cantus-Firmus Mass based on the armed man. NB: Franco-Flemish polyphony is the style.

  • Dufay is one of my favourite composers. I'm having difficulty actually choosing one person as a favourite because the music is all so supreme. I never knew about this kind of music until last year.

  • Try Palestrina!

  • Machaut is closer to this than Palastrina

  • Very beautiful. It's one of my favourite pieces. I heard the "Messe L'Homme Armee" performed by the Hilliard Ensemble way back in 1989 in Paradiso in Amsterdam.

  • This is beautiful. Do you, by chance, have the Benedictus section? I haven't heard it in years and it's impossible to find.

  • I belive "The Hilliard Ensemble" have a recorded CD with the entire Mass (including the Sanctus et Benedictus). You could probably find it somewhere on the internet, if not drop me an e-mail (jason.mcconnell.leech@gmail) and I can send you the piece.

  • Wonderful, thank you.

  • Muchisimas gracias por subir esta maravillosa musica... es necesario pues no es tan popular en estos lugares jajajajaja
