Looking at the top of the page. Live, President Obama's State of the union speech. HAAAAA! That's why I picked this song! That's all he ever does. Promises and point's the finger!
@Diamonddusted68 - Back in the day, they use to mix this song with 'Good Times'... that chucky sounding guitar riff at the beginning and during the bridges of this song are pretty much duplicatons of the guitar portions from 'Good Times'
Tears are welling up in my eyes. This tune brings back so many memories. Vintage 80's. I remember this playing on MTV in 1983. Naked Eyes was part of that New Wave British invasion of the late 70's early 80's. This was before electronic and digital voices and music took over the industry. When real istruments were still played. Oh God can I take a trip back to the 80's. Long live the 80's. Music just aint what it use to be. SIGH!!
@pmsan29 do u like love the guitar intro "jelly bean benitez" cadence or what !??? and then when the guitar kicks in they do the tambourine layered on top of it the volume on the tambourine track ever so slightly behind the guitar
@jjdd7442 correction when the solo guitar kicks in after the rhythm guitar within the intro . but seriously the rhythm tambourine is really whats alot of the magic the guitar/s are stupendously great too the sublte sngle tones when the guitar goes solo man i float away on that
Yes, it does. Sounds good too. And all this time I thought I was the only one who caught it. Good work, my friend.
Killer music especially with the DX7 sounds giving it that creepy and disturbing other wordly sounds. I love it. For those of you that dont know, The DX7 is a keyboard from Yamaha and was super popular the world over. It defined the 80's and it was almost on every hit song.
This was one of my favorite 80s tracks that wasn't done by Michael Jackson. I like the US version better, although the UK version isn't so bad. The US version is a song I like to hear in the middle of the night, while looking out from the balcony of my apartment in Miami and seeing all the nightlights shining and kicking back with either Belvedere or potato vodka and OJ or a whiskey sour. Kind has a sexy sound to it, especially with the guitars and keyboards.
Naked Eyes were vastly under rated,as were many other 80's groups and artists.Great song,I love their other songs "Always Something There to Remind Me" and "What is Love".
This song truly exemplifies the power of music. It takes me back almost 30 years and I can remember almost everything that happened during that time. To me it's youth, innocence, staying out late and playing hide and seek, my first kiss. It's one of those songs where you call the radio station 500 times just to hear it once
tea is a british thing, dare I say worshipped unlike here.they probaly thought the impact of the joke we would just not get...that is my opinion anyway....hope that helped.
The extended play version is too dry. Not enough echo or reverb to smooth it out. Also missing is the audio exciter like Aphex. It really added a lot of punch especially when played in a car stereo.
My car has a BBE processor that really adds kick to otherwise lifeless music.
BBE = Barcus Berry Electronics. Good stuff. Also make musical instrument equipment too.
I would like to buy this song version but I do not know how ...I looked in I tunes and the version of the song is a guitar version...does anyone has an idea?
This is a good example of something I noticed about radio in the U.S. The actual songs that were played during the 1980's are somewhat different than what are played on the "oldies" or "hits of the '80s" stations. For example, this song was played all the time in Chicago. A major song from my childhood. And I had completely forgotten about it until I found the record. I hadn't heard this song for possibly 20 years. Brought back instant memories. I want the real '80s, not "the Best of"
Song remins me of spinning the hits on WCBA 1350AM Corning,New York, Fall 1983. Music today can not what so ever touch the music of the 70's and 80's. Crap Music today is 'the worst trash' since man has walked the planet!!!!
I believe the second version is the UK 12" mix of "Promises Promises". A different remix of this song was issued as a promo only 12" single in the US.
They most certainly were underrated! Well said, along with the Fixx and a whole slew of other great bands. Man the 80's were chock-full of awesome tunes! I miss that decade...wish I could go back for a visit-SIGH-!
I have great memories of this tune! Both versions were played on WLIR in New York when I was in college. Naked Eyes had a terrific sound. Their music stands the test of time. Is there a video available of "When the Lights Go Down"?
