    greetings from oamaru, new zealand.

we have a early spud here called ...."jersey bennes" which is harvested starting late oct to late december, can you confirm if j.b"s is what you have as royal jersey?.

if you google in the name ....jersey benne potato, it always fall back to us in new zealand.

j.b"s are only growen in oamaru, new zealand as a early spud which is poor in yeild.

my email is ...carlgin1965@yahoo.com ....love to talk jerseys to ya.

    cheers carl

  • @conmanumber1 Hi Carl, the Jersey Royal is not the same potato as your Jersey bennes, Jersey Royals are only allowed to be grown in Jersey although some seed I suspect has been taken by seasonal workers when they return home to grow in their veg patch over the years. There was a history in our local paper a couple of months ago of how one jersey farmer started the Jersey royal a couple of hundred years ago which led to them eventually being grown Island wide.

    Best wishes...Nick.

  • @conmanumber1 If I can find the article, I will scan it and email it to you.

    Regards....Nick.
