If you are obtaining the TWIC as part of the process to later obtain (or renew) a Merchant Mariner Credential, please let TSA know you either are a "Merchant Mariner" or plan to be a "Merchant Mariner." These two key words will prompt them to upload your data into the Coast Guard documenation system which starts the profile that supports your credential. There have been situations where the mariner was not entered by TSA as "Merchant Mariner" and this can potentially delay the process.
