I wish my mom would have showed me this when I was a baby. No disrespect toward what she did open my eyes to, but I would have liked to have known about this group awhile back. I feel behind...
I'd love to hear an electrified version of Dimeola, DeLucia, and McLaughlin's "Friday Night in San Fransisco" done by the 70's maniacs Robin Trower, Eddie Hazel, and Uli John Roth. That would be some recording.
I saw Robin and the lads at Asbury Park (NJ) Convention Hall about a hundred or so years ago. I couldn't hear anything for a few days afterwards ....but it was worth it! hahahaha
I have not heard this song forever,I had the album back in the 70's loved them then i'm 56yrs.old now still sounds GREAT THEY SURE DONT MAKE MUSIC LIKE THAT ANYMORE WHAT ASHAME AT LEAST WE HAVE YOUTUBE THANK GOD!!!
Back in the day, we used to call this guy the white Jimi Hendrix. Miss the music from this era. Today's stuff just doesn't have any kind of emotion or heart to it. Just lots of bass that gives you a damn headache.
yeah, robin trower is a great guitar player but I think it's tragic that the singer (James Dewar) didn't get more credit. He was a great blues style singer! R.I.P.
I can still remember the excitement in my 35 year old Mom's voice ( the same person who could crack a whip to keep me in line} when she said, "Listen-To-This..." as she whipped out the Bridge of Sighs album and set the needle on the Too Rolling Stoned tune, and then we were excited together as
Robin and Jimmy made their colossal impact on my 15 year old soul. Cool thing, She thought I would like RT and she was very right, and then she
gave me 'Twice Removed' for Christmas, One Cool Mom.

Strange...but this song reminds me of a joke i heard around the time.
The son of an indian Chief asked his father...why did you call my sister "Little Hawk"? He replied, when she was born i saw a little hawk flying by, So, what's the matter two dogs fuc..ng?

Gonna be 60 & I don't care. Lived thru the most astounding music period in history. Elvis, Beatles, Hendrix, Clapton, Cream, Doors, Janis, Moody Blues, Kinks, the Animals, Johnny Cash, Willie, Stevie Wonder, Procol Harum (Robin Trower), King Crimson, Patti Smith, Dylan, Tom Waits, Springsteen, the Who, Pink Floyd, Miles Davis, 4 Tops, Joni, Temptations, Aretha, CCR, Velvet U., Stones, 1-hit wonder bands - damn, I'd do it all again. Look at the variety ! Today's music needs an enema.
Robin Trower's presence, influence, and creativity during the 70's was certainly undeniable among guitarists and blues rock enthusiasts....truly not given the attention he deserves.
If you don't have a set of headphones and really love this music, may I suggest you get a really good pair. And not just the little tiny earbud headphones. They are a must to get the full, amazing effect and trust me it makes a huge difference with any music but definitely with Trower. I saw them in the mid 70's. Loved it then and here I sit now, a 50 yr old woman rocking out in my computer chair with my headphones on and my 2 dogs sitting there staring at me, wondering what the hell.
@Msdistarr Im right there with ya. Saw him at The Golden Bear in Huntington Beach CA in the early 80's. Was the final show at that venue before they tore it down. Great concert!!!!
@Msdistarr You are describing ME!!!! I saw them at the Shrine in maybe, '75? First concert with all my friends. And at home, I sat on the floor next to my stereo with the BIG headphones one, too. I'm gonna go get myself a big pair of headphones for Christmas now!!!!
@susiekindler You'll be glad you did. When I decided to get a really good set, I wanted Bose Headphones which run about $150 (a lot of money to me). It took me about 3 months to justify the expense, but I finally got them. Amazing difference over my less expensive ones. These days, if I'm not wearing them at my computer, I plug in my MP3, put on my headphones and take care of my housework, gardening, etc. They are always on my head. I do love my music. Have a great holiday!!
@susiekindler hmmmm interesting, 2 women discussing a guitar gawd from the 70's,(usually a mens domain) if either one of you are into football I think I hear a marriage proposal on it's way
@sirwob Don't care much for football, but I love to go and watch the "tractor pulls".
Just kidding. But, I guess you are right, now that I think about it. When it comes to great guitarists in this genre of music, the majority of comments are made by men. That's not to say women aren't viewers.Perhaps just quieter than me. I've seen Eric Clapton and Joe Walsh (he doesn't get the respect he deserves) and I think Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits is amazing. I can listen to them for hours. And do!
@Msdistarr -I am laughing like hell cuz I am doing the same, with headphones on, cranked up. At 53 I am having a mid life music crisis! Going back to the 70's and large speakers. Kids are all gone, and now I can turn it up LOUD and sit in my garden , with a glass of wine. Dogs looking at me like "What the...?" then they run away! HA! Rock on . Kids now adays don't get how great the guitarists of the 70's were...Zappa...etc...
@wicalawinyan I was reading your comment and had to laugh when you said "now I can turn it up loud". I was laughing because as I read that, I was thinking "now I HAVE to turn it up loud" (so I can hear it). Went to to many concerts in my younger years and to many years of loud music. I've always loved my music loud. And the dogs, god love 'em, give me the "Look" as soon as I sit at my computer or put my headphones on, like "Geez, not again". They are so neglected, the poor spoiled souls:)
@ravenrte2 I'm sorry, which part: going deaf?, spoiled dogs? loud music? I'm reading that sentence back to myself and what's scary is that none of that seems abnormal. If you ask which is worse, spoiled dogs or going deaf, without a doubt, it's the dogs! I'm kidding. I love my kids.
@toyznstuff I have been to a lot of concerts, but I only got close to the stage 1 time and that was in early '90's. I was about 10 rows back but it was an outdoor venue, so not quite the same affect. But being that close at an indoor venue, I can't begin to imagine the volume of sound. You could probably "feel" every beat of music from your head to your toes. Oh, the good old days:)
@Msdistarr Hey you...Me Too,but no phones...full system(JBL-studio monitors) I am 48,my dogs(Mollie&Roxy)Love Trower&Captain Beyond(?) they really think I am nuts when I put onGolden Earring or Wishbone ash though....love to hear from you.... Cj
@linscott63 When Robin went solo (it took his third album (bridge) for him to hit it big)..alot of people back then thought this was lost Hendrix stuff.. (wishbone ash!, yeah I like em).... Its only money ,Trower....
Lyrics correction, the line; "I got to meet a lover on my own"
He ACTUALLY is saying; "I've got to think it over on my own"

Jethro Tull and Robin Trower were my first ever concert. I had to have a friend drive the first car I ever bought because I did not even have my license yet. Trower got three callbacks after standing ovations that were loud ! And this was the LA Coliseum !
70's rock music had more (?) because it was born deep from the tortured soul of America at a time just after the hell of The Bomb, Vietnam, Nixon, the civil rights movement and the assassinations of the Kennedys Matin Luther King, et all. @intrptr That is a great way of looking at it. Too many people only think about music as numbers or notes on piece of paper. It's all about that emotion!
saw him live at the mid to late 70's series of summer rock concerts called "Day on the Green". All day at Candlestick Park, gates opened around 9:00 or 10:00 am, people gettin loaded and havin babies by around 2 in the afternoon, 5 or 6 mad, great rock bands in one day! Can't do that again!!
I was sitting in the car parked in front of a drug store. Some black kids were hanging out in front, looked bored. So I cranked this up, and Too Rollin Stoned. One of them came over, and asked who is it? Kids know what's good. They know this lady fucking ga ga crap has no panache, no mystique, they hate it too, but it's all they get. BTW, dinosaurs rock, yes, but get your facts straight: this album came out 37 years ago, children.
@hummlyhummly im 50 , so i agree with u. bridge of sighs was one of the best albums ever! i hear 3 bands of the time in his music,, hendrix,, foghat & bto. maybee some grand funk too. regards.
@hummlyhummly im 50 , so i agree with u. bridge of sighs was one of the best albums ever! i hear 3 bands of the time in his music,, hendrix,, foghat & bto. maybee some grand funk too. regards.
Its a shame only a few people realize what a great talent this man is. he took what hendrix started and took it to levels that jimi only dreamed of !!!
Why was music better back in the day? Better rifts, more "soul" to the music and in most lyrics and singers didn't hold their notes and whine when they sang. Women singers and their music today is so annoying and the men groups are just Cream, Led Zep, Buddy Miles, Jimi, Canned Heat, Who,Guess Who, Stones, Beatles, Moody Blues, Cactus, etc. want to be's. Sorry, it just doesn't get it today or the past 25 years.
I went to see Robin Trower back in '85 or '86 at the Agora and I'll never forget the guy that passed out while leaning up against Robin's amp. Can you imagine what his ear felt like the next day?
Me and some guys from high school formed a band first song we learned was "Day of the Eagle" I was the drummer but wished I could play guitar! I can play all the drum parts though!
Sure she might not be able to hear TV, but hey? What's important here? Best part of these comments is, I didn't see one "This shit sucks!" in the whole thread.
This tape (cassette in early 70's) was what I listened to when I first started weight training. This music pushed me to limits I never could have achieved without it. I would hit over 300 bench for reps and military press 270 for reps and I only weighed 155 at the time. Thank you Robin for making such kick ass music and thanks to GSB for posting all these fantastic Trower songs. I am getting chills listening to them and feel like punching iron yet again.
Classic rock at its best!!!!

Its a shame only a few people realize what a great talent this man is. he took what hendrix started and took it to levels that jimi only dreamed of !!!

Robin Trower was always a underrated guitar player and I have no Idea why. He just smokes that fretboard.

How is this song not more popular? The guitar in this song is orgasmic.
INTOtheVOID11 11 months ago 3

Yet another AMAZING song from the soundtrack of my life. Saw him way back in the mid '70's. Just as good now as it was then. Music at its BEST!

I am getting chills listening to them and feel like punching iron yet again.

ryguy000 1 year ago
@ryguy000 computer generated sound now-a-days isn't real
mikeconner1956 1 year ago
@ryguy000 There's an easy answer. The record industry rattlers found out we like great music. That was a sonic defect they soon corrected.
