Talk Talk (Stereo) - The Music Machine [Los Angeles, California] - No.15 on 12/10/1966+. 8 weeks Top 40. - "AMG pick. THEIR BEST; Is one of the better examples of garage rock from that period." - Turn On-The Very Best Of The Music Machine (Collectables)-1999.
NOTE: "Utilizing a Rolling Stones-inspired R&B guitar riff pattern, the song has a menacing quality to it that fit the times perfectly."
A good Garage Band to add to your collection. :-)
Well, I truly say I remember when this was burning up the charts back in the fall of 1966. This was quite a biggie for a few weeks and then... Pfffffffftt. It was gone.
There is nothing amateurish about this... This is raw, but it's also very accomplished. And that's what the "garage aesthetic" from the early '80's on has completely missed: These guys were great, and the garage bands across America that worked on this tune, and "Psychotic Reaction," and "96 Tears," were doing so because they were trying to learn and improve from those records.
Notice there are NO decent covers of this song....nobody can do the drums...NOBODY!!! I've been trying for 20 years now ha ha ha a ha ha
This whole record should have been one of the most popular of the 60's they were very ahead of their time and Shaun's songwriting is some quality stuff :)
@xXPinkGoddessXx I wonder if Sean Bonniwell was inspired by Arthur Lee's vocals on "My Lil Red Book". The last time I spoke with Arthur Lee he was still pissed off about it...FYI...Iggy Pop was inspired by Jim Morrison's style from the first time he saw The Doors live....not a one hit wonder like Sean Bonniwell's manufactured Music Machine. But being the great musician that Bonniwell was he still caught the 60's spirit with "Talk Talk".
I thought this song came out in late '67. Either way it's still good. Give me the music of my childhood anytime than this junk that's out today.
Chewyfan: I also write about the 60's, pop culture, Hollywood, movies, television, travel, and opinions on various issues. I too wrote a short story about two California surfers in Switzerland during the summer of '66.
sean boniwell (leader, writer of this song, lead singer) is alive & well in central calif. The guy is still a trip. Google "music machine or "sean boniwell", go to website & email. nice guy. will reply
I was 14 in 66' too - when you look at the music that came out that year, it's clear that it was a key time in rock music. I can remember listening to 'Paint It Black" in the summer of 66', after my 8th grade graduation on the beach, in Chicago - :)
@heywally "Top 40" was sooooo much better then than it is now. I had just turned twelve the time this song came out- I loved it and don't regret growing up n the sixties- that's why I have "66" in my handle. Some really great garage/punk music came out at that time, although we called it psychedelic..
Thank you!!! I'm righting a story thet takes place in 1966 and have been looking for good music, but all I could find were like 5 second preview type things. thanx for putting up a hole song!
too bad -Sean Bonniwell --the singer/songwriter in the group-passed away in Dec.2011--I have all their music--Great stuff---------

According to Joel Whitburn's book:
"Talk, Talk" debuted on Billboard's Hot 100 on 11/12/1966. The Music Machine was a rock quintet from LA. Sean Bonniwell wrote it and sang lead.
Outstanding rocker - thanks
