  • Check out Escape Velocity by the same group. It's on youtube.

  • my goodness!!!

  • Dig the angles of those cymbals! Its like playing a wall!

  • Great footage! This is Woody's best band and him at his peak of skills and musical thought... so sad all the bad stuff that happened to this guy... there are a few trumpeters that have tried to emulate his sound, I think Tim Hagen for one...

  • @shanrico I had a chance to hear Tim play recently and I thought the exact same thing!

  • man ive been playing trumpet for some time and i dont really hear people talk about how good this guy was and after hearing this i dont understand why

  • Shaws approach to improvisation here is unlike anything ive ever heard on the trumpet, ive just started to listen to this guy within the past week, he is amazing! He uses an approach similar to freddie hubbard but his is his own without a doubt.

  • Woody and Carter are rippin things up here but the whole band is combustible! Love it!

  • Why is this clip only 2 minutes long? It was just getting good. Thanks for posting.

  • too good!! wonderful tune, wonderful players, incredible.

    sonzeira da porra

  • Why doesn't anyone play this kind of "Balls to the Walls" Jazz anymore?

the whole scene has gone soft and ineffectual.

  • @SidewalkFrequencies nah man, you def aren't listening to the right stuff if u say that

  • @BigBoyDarrell

  • HOLY shit they take this up

  • Lydian Pentatonic, baby!

  • Carter Jefferson on soprano and tenor saxophone.

  • Tiger! He's brilliant too! He teaches at Berklee!

  • pure genius...

  • Carter Jefferson on sax. I think he takes after Dexter Gordon!

  • and Joe Henderson! I love Carter Jefferson. He left us before his time; he was brilliant.

  • Who is the sax player?

  • I'd love hear his tune Little Red's Fanatsy.

  • yo do you guys still have that live video of rosewood from i think this same concert? if so, could i obtain it somehow?

  • Go to WoodyShawdotcom page or replace video code with this one

    Rosewood: watch?v=W6q1Xs1CW2w

  • Not only are they playing this tune very fast, it is a tricky one to learn, as a bassist learning it, I can tell you firsthand that these guys are amazing musicians! Woody died tragically, as many musicians do, Damn shame. The world needs more like him.

  • aaaahhhhh this is amazing!!! thank you so much for putting this up... woody's my favorite musicion... hands down.

carter owns on this as well... the recording of this at the village vanguard is badass as well.

  • OMG!!!

  • woody is a total badass trumpeter, he has no equal in style, articulation and expression

  • AHHHHHH! MAZING!

    soooo friggin good.

Woody, stop making me feel so fantastic. AHHHHH!

  • Thanks for putting this up. Woody is incredibly important in the lineage of great trumpeters, improvisers, and composers. He still is not widely recognized for his greatness as he should be. These videos and his re-releases should help. I saw Woody, but not with the underappreciated Carter Jefferson - it was the "United" tour and they were on a double bill with Art Blakey @the Keystone Korner (featuring a new guy, 19-year old Wynton Marsalis). Great evening. Thanks again.

  • Dig those pentatonic sequences at that speed!!!

  • i was flabbergasted. i knew him already, but not this song.

this guy was way ahead of his time. what does it say about our times that so little people know him....?

  • thanks!!

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!!

  • Amazing.

  • more woody shaw videos please!
