123D Catch limits the resolution of the uploaded photos to 3.2 megapixels. A future release may relax that restriction to allow for top quality results. Even with the current version if you fill the frame you can still get good results if you take the pictures optimally.
1) Take the pictures outdoors on a cloudy day. Highly diffuse light helps a LOT. It removes specular highlights and gets rid of shadows. San Francisco fog is perfect!
2) Take the pictures on a surface that has a lot of random non-repeating patterns in it. I took the pictures on a concrete sidewalk that had a mixture of large and small aggregate stones in the concrete which helps with camera calibration.
3) Fill the frame with the object - more pixels of the object.
I think Autodesk labs should really be thinking about integrating the kinect infrared into this system, maybe create nearly instant scan processing. I know the kinect depth is low resolution, but coupling a system like this with it, might be a good idea.
How many photos was this one. I seem to have trouble getting texture results this good. Almost like the quality is capped even at the highest density.
You made that?!?! No i refuse to believe it!!!

Also, how do achieve such good diffuse lighting with minimal shadows?
