Actually, it was Bush's policies that caused it. His tax cuts for the rich cost the United States $3,000,000,000,000, while Obama has only cost us $1,400,000,000,000. Also, things have only gotten worse ever since these "tea party" members have made it into the senate/house. However, it would seem that people ignore this due to the blatant ignorance of Americans. Bush tax cuts added 2 trillion to the national debt. But if they were so bad why did Obama extend them in 2010? The biggest contributor to national debt is tax revenue declines from 2 recessions. The 1st was the dotcom bubble Bush inherited from Clinton. And the 2nd was the real estate bubble Bush inherited from... Clinton. Most financial experts agree Clinton created this bubble/recession when he repealed the Glass-Steagall Act. It takes years for a bubble to finally pop.

I'm honestly not sure how "cutting taxes on the upper class" helps the economy at all. If you were to raise the taxes, you could have much better government services. Also it has already been proven that Bush's tax cuts alone cost the country more money than Obama's spending.

People can either spend or invest money. Either way, businesses get to use it for expansions that create jobs. But if gov raises taxes to pay for "better government services" like welfare, food stamps & unemployment the money still ends up in the pockets of business. But in the meantime, gov is paying people NOT to work which hurts the economy. Even when taxes are used to pay for education, health, etc most of the money is squandered on bloated administration & pork projects.
