  • Ali's knockouts were mostly due to cuts like this one. Watch the ref and Daniels' cornermen looking at and treating his eye. Ali admitted that he never hit hard and therefore never knocked a man out cold. Instead, he pumped his jab into their right eye and cut them all the time. A ref has to stop the fight if the cut would due irreparable harm. Even though Frazier wasn't cut, his eyes were practically closed and, so, couldn't go on. He told his corner he couldnt see early in the fight at Manila.

  • lumpadorko, shuddup. look at Frazier's face when the fight was stopped. look at the video and you'll see Frazier shaking his head "no" he couldn't continue. no sense in fighting in manila's heat? that's an incredibly stupid comment; it's for the championship! fighters suck it up and go for broke. your comments clearly display your lack of boxing knowledge/common sense/intelligence/ etc. "know it alls" NEVER know what they're talking about.

  • @ztztzyzy Ali also wanted to stop the fight after round 14. He asked his corner men to cut the gloves off. Frazier's corner beat them to conceding the fight. Notice that Ali was unable to stand after the fight was called.

Both men were near death according to Ali's Doctor. They both won and they both lost IMHO.

  • @fanwuren who quit huh?

  • @MrPelavacas Frazier quit first. Ali would not have lasted through another round.

  • @ztztzyzy How do you know that Frazier wasn't shaking his head saying "no. Don't stop the fight?

  • @fanwuren probably because i saw the eddie futch (it was on metacafe) interview on that very subject......

  • jACK dANIEL'S

  • the Korean commentators are very annoying, but thanks for the video.

  • This is exactly how boxing was supposed to be done,THAT is why he called himself the greatest

Reduce power, increase speed and stamina, stick and move..simple as that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Billy Daniels is a bit like Joe Louis.

  • daniels is actually not a half bad fighter he was landin pretty good against ali at his peak and he alsi made ali miss a alot with his head movement

  • @australiafinest

This fight is a reminder how of how ludicrous so many of Clay's wins were; clearly, Daniels was winning this fight but that was unacceptable--it could not be allowed to stand so it was simply stopped.

  • @lumpagogo ...Now just WHO did you say was winning this fight? Maybe you didn;t know but it is CLAY who is wearing the white trunks and Daniels the dark ones. Hope that helped.

  • @sashe44

Unbiased folk = Daniels was 'winning'. Clay, later Cassius X, was protected from the lump-a-get-go-go. He could have gone unbeaten until Holmes but Boxing knew that would have looked 100% phoney. As it was, it was nearly 100% phoney.

  • Ali looks terrible here. Billy Daniels won every round. Ali was missing badly and his head was wide open.

  • Lol you've never seen ali fight before have you. His head was always wide open but he never got hit.

  • How did Sonny Banks, Henry Cooper, Joe Frazier knock your hero down? Did poor Ali slip on a banana peel each time?

  • Lol just because someone gets knocked down doesn't mean they're a bad fighter. I think you should learn the art of boxing and then start making judgements.

  • @marcxopoco How Muhammad Ali TKO Banks, Frazier, and Cooper ? Did he Just pitty pat them ? lol... NO ! He battered them. He came back and Punched the hell out of them. Its all on film . lol... lol...

  • @truthhitmanisback

Cooper was cut--he had problems with cuts his whole career; Banks was not really hurt when the fight was stopped. Frazier wanted to continue--his corner said: No." There was no sense in fighting in Manilla's 110 degree heat. When we look at his career, all we can do is ask: Why did we allow Cassius X aka X to get away with all these stunts? X, confess--your career was a fraud. You know this, X--admit it.

  • @marcxopoco and? all gr8s r kd sumtime fool

  • he left his head exposed in a lot of his fights but in his prime his defense was good enough for him to get away with it.

  • Ali best of all times !!!!!!

  • Tyson could never handle Ali pace and work rate no chance.

    Ali was way to fast

  • the fastest jab of any heavyweight ever.

incredible speed in this fight :D

holmes doesnt even close to this speed

  • @t3di2 doesn't know that Doug Jones' jab was twice as fast as Ali's. It's right there on the tape with the two of them in the same ring at the same time.

Jimmy Young's jab was three times as fast as Ali's. And accurate.

Jimmy Young bounced Ali's head around like it was a speedbag in a gym.

  • Actually a good competitive fight. Billy Daniels looks like a real skilled boxer with great head movement and good footwork. Shame it was stopped on a cut.

  • was ALI better than Larry Holmes?

  • for sure

  • @drunkard6666 without a doubt

  • Billy Daniels is related to me.hes one of my grandmas cousins.

  • @lettertotheworld18 I'm SO pround of YOU!

  • wow the person below me is pretty dumb

do u haev M.S.N messenger? go2 my profile and msg my ID! JN

  • Daniels weighed only 189 for this fight. He is competitive with Ali, fighting in a classic boxer-puncher style. However, Daniels lacks both the hand speed and more importantly- the punching power to make the style effective.

  • Why, then, is Dr. Clay (as usual) doing the running and holding? There is no way he was winning this fight.

  • I think my suggestion means a young Joe Louis gets him. He was faster of hand, a bit bigger and a much harder hitter than Daniels, as well as better fundamentally.

  • Well, no one has ever compared Billy Daniels to Joe Louis, cc. The record shows that the Jones win was doubtful, that the Cooper win was a fraud, Our 'Enry's bleeding all over the place allowed Gaseous Cassius the luxury of not having to do much besides surviving the knockdown (which he did by phony baloney)---------------------ouch-me!

So, the World, inclding Sonny Liston, said: "The Man will crush the Child."

  • We all forgot the Child was a runner who was both a lot taller and quicker than Eddie Machen. The Hand of Evil was about to "shake up" (and backhand) the World." Say hello to your future nightmare courtesy of the NOI.

    Horror-Show City.

  • Why, then, is Dr. Clay (as usual) doing the running and holding? There is no way he was winning this fight. RESPONSE:You are just a kid who knows NOTHING about boxing. Those of us that actually know the sport and have actually had some fights understand why Ali IS the Greatest! Further Ali wasn't in his prime yet. Ali has nothing to prove especially to a bum like you.

  • our good friend, salted spring, is baa-hack.

Hey, salty, his name was Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr. when he fought Billy D. You might have known that, mang. And salty, be nice.

    Be the happy salty.

  • I'm always happy!!!...just need to straighten out little kids who know NOTHING...wait..I know..watch some wrestling. LOL

  • hey st75115 whats your problem you envyous punk it's no doubt that ali is the greatest...man i would pay a thousand dollars if they put you and me in a ring for only 40 seconds then tie my right arm behind my back cause otherwise it would be a murdercase. but i still would have whooped your ass you faggot.

  • Abdullah Joe All-ah-soo-toe:

Calm down; this is not a boxing ring. Many of us do not care for Mr. Ali but we don't endorse sf75's tactics either.

  • yeah yeah you are probably right to but i can't stand people who degrade other people just because he is probably a red neck racist. I mean wether you like the man or not you can't get arround the fact that he is at least ONE of the greatest fighters of all times and on top of that he also does'nt respect the fact that muhammad really does'nt like to be called by his given slavename. and i am a white guy from the netherlands and it even bothers me let stand how coloured people look at it.

  • joe-d:

Can we call you: "Dutch-man Joe"? Yeah, we can agree that Ali's career was one-of-a-kind-great. And sf75 is dead wrong about Ali's IQ. If nothing else, Ali was a genius who out-thought "the world" as he "shook it up."

  • A dope is an idiot who lets himself get hit in the head so many times he is in a walking coma! That is Cassius Clay! Greatest of all time? Are you on serious psychotic drugs?

  • ha ha making your point with a hint of brilliant humour! lol. i wonder why there are others with the same condition who never stepped into a ring?

  • r u any better than he is???hes without a doubt the most skilled boxer the planet has ever seen..

  • G.O.A.T!

  • Im sorry i dont understand why they stop the fight.

  • This fight was on ESPN recently; Daniels' corner was really angry at the stoppage.

It was suppsedly a cut that caused it but it's sure hard to spot.

  • Bruce Lee admitted that he changed some of his thinking on hand strikes from watching Ali. He almost abandoned his wing chun teachings because of it. He said he liked how loose and fluid Ali was. Bruce Lee + Ali = the perfect fighter.

  • ur an idiot...Cassius Clay a.k.a. Muhammad Ali is the best boxer who ever lived....if you think otherwise then ur probably gay!

  • lol that was cool man REAL cool! lol. Ali has taken the ecletic approach using speed, power, and skill as well as psychology to beat any opponent. Bruce Lee did notice Ali's fluidity.

  • 1. joe louis 2. muhammad ali

based on pure boxing abilities and heavyweight champion title length

  • bigboimazzi: WTF? Joe Louis is a scrub in today's standards.. He wouldn't last 5 rounds against Ali. Tyson would have ripped Louis' ass in the 1st round.

  • You have no clue.

  • here leave ali alone. he's a boxing legend. rope a dope is a well known boxing tactic and if the dude is stupid enough to punch himself tired while going nowhere against ali, then the dope is the dude throwing the punches

  • Cassius Clay is a big no talent fool. When you rope a dope, the dope is the one who is hit in the head so many times he can hardly function and the best you can get out of his big mouth today, ga, ga, goo, goo like a little baby girl!!! That is the story of Cassius Clay!

  • I bet ur gay, or a pedofile. I don't which one but ur definately one of the two you faggot...

  • Be careful that YOU do not end up worse than Ali.

  • ALi was a bad man. First Fighter i've seen knock someone down while backing up.

  • That's the shit...Ali fought him going backwards the whole time.

  • i love the way how Ali moves then punches its unbeliavable

  • Uh, yeah. It's called BOXING!

  • Thanks for posting this. Am currently reading Ali's autobiography from the mid-seventies. Trademark Ali here with his speed and the way he circles his opponents. According to his book, he only got $6,000 for this victory, only to receive a thousand times this amount for the Frazier III fight.

  • how weird, only today have I started to read the exact same book. I have had it for 2 years and today I decided to start reading it.

  • Cool. You'll enjoy it. You might also be interested in "Fighting Spirit" by Bruce Thomas (Publisher: Frog, Ltd, ISBN: 1-883319-25-0), an honestly-written, sober analysis about Bruce Lee. Bruce Thomas is a professional musician who played with Paul McCartney, Madness, and the Pretenders, and was a martial arts student of Derek Jones, a former student of Bruce Lee. This book's even more inspirational than the one you're currently reading about Ali.

  • P.S. Bruce, apparently, was an admirer of Ali and used to study his fights closely. Ever see "Return of the Dragon" including Bruce's fight with Chuck Norris? Bruce's maintains a boxing stance just like Ali's, bobbing up and down with his hands held low, and moving around constantly like he's fighting in a ring. Coincidence? Perhaps.

  • I don't think it was a Coincidence. I've been watching martial arts movies since I was a kid and during bruce's time there were no other kung fu movies that had the fighters bouncing around and using the strikes of a boxer. Everybody else was using the traditional chinese strikes, but Bruce wasn't, and he got criticized for not sticking to tradition.
